Can't imagine the teams who signed up to this rebel league had any idea of the negative reaction from everyone including their own fans the associations uefa fifa and even govts.

Well if they didn't, they're a bit thick.

Personally I suspect they did know how negative the reaction would be but didn't care as their target audience for the ESL is not the supporters who actually go to games, but people in Asia, Africa, America and the Middle East who will pay to watch games on TV and are only interested in watching what they perceive as the 'big' clubs playing each other.

The likes of Man Utd have probably calculated they can replace a good proportion of revenue generated from their local fanbase by brining in more plastics globally. They would still fill the stadium with football tourists, corporates etc etc. I honestly don't think the Glaziers give a s**t  as they know much money this can bring in.

Does anyone think we'll get a joint statement from the Managers or Players association condemning this?

Be nice for some of the current players and managers to come out and condemn - no doubt they've been advised not to.

I haven't really commented as I wanted to see if there were any more developments, I was convinced yesterday after reading the panic stricken tweets from football journalists that it was genuine but even now I am astounded and horrified that they announced it, and appear to be going through with it seemingly at whatever cost and with no recognition of the optics of it. It's even more despicable that they are announcing this during the pandemic, shielded from the fans with their views and protests out of sight and out of mind and restricted to social media and forums, and as ever the loyal supporters are those who are given the least consideration in all of this.

It is the same thing. It's motivated by money.... its exactly the same.

I think it will happen but not in favour of it.

Not really. The main thing is sporting fairness and integrity. Being able to be promoted and relegated, any team being able to win any league if they are good enough. Inviting Rangers or Celtic to join the English system and play on their own merits isn't the same as the super league proposal.

SSN got a source from a board member of one of these break away clubs.  Few points that were pretty shocking:

  • If they stayed in the domestic leagues they'd probably field weaker teams to focus on ESL
  • Boards are split but owners are adamant.  Owner said they didn't care about the wider good of the game.
  • Be delighted if the players were banned from playing internationals.
  • Be happy to be kicked out the league.

Sure this'll be written up with more detail.  Sickening.

Tbf none of these "big six" stadiums should be left standing if this crap goes ahead.

I think the players will be free to do what they want as a compromise, but the clubs won't be able to return, not without starting from the bottom.

....money talks!!!

You really do not think we have gone so far down the line unless there wasn't  arrangements made internally.

These are the riches clubs, the reason why we are in this predicament is because of who they are, to extricate themselves should for some reason it does not work out, all they would have to do is click their fingers.

They would not be looking to make this leap unless they also have tv backing, all these things have been sorted behind closed doors. If the TV broadcasters said no then this is a non starter, but because they are fighting each other, none of them can afford to say no as if they don't do it, someone else would.

In that regards, yes. But inviting them in the first place would purely be a financial decision which would have insane repercussions on the Scottish leagues and everyone in it.

Have any players of these teams come forward and said anything yet?

Let them go and form their own league which will collapse on itself when the Americans really don’t take interest in it.

I really hope all the Governing Bodies take a strong stance on it. They can compete in their super league if they want but they won’t be able to compete in anything else and neither will their players.
