Can’t believe I’m saying this but fair deal to the ‘French’ (!) and German clubs for simply refusing to be included.  Bayern Munich is a massive and highly respected European club, so how could the ESL even be credible without them? .... oh sorry; yes, just toss the money loving ‘forget the game’ Arsenal owner into it and he’ll guarantee their inclusion ... or even worse ‘this’ll be our year .... oh bollocks!’ Tottenham into the mixer instead! .... the awful Americanisation of European football is seriously threatening the very fabric of it with the ESL merely breaking the clubs into franchised assets and sod the fans.

We are too passive as fans in this country. We need to come together and act as a unit to put pressure on the authorities and the clubs in question where we can. We need to stand not only with our club but with supporters of other clubs.

British people (English in particular) are not very good at protest or revolution. We’re ultimately very passive as people, which is why the country is currently being done over by crooks with no recourse. 
 

But you’re absolutely right: fans DO have the final say, as long as we have the resolve to vote with our feet.

Always a possibility, and the other 14 will be happy enough financially to see the 6 return (from the brink) it we are honest

Yes this is quite typical of England when people get suddenly very outraged at something that is indicative of a wider problem that was mostly ignored for years.

You can't create a law that only apply to certain people. You can't make it illegal for Man U to stage football matches without making it illegal for everyone else. This isn't China, the govt can't act in arbitrary ways. 

 

Too much of this debate is based on wishful thinking. These billionaires wouldn't go into this without checking out all the legal possibilities.

It's not a difficult one at all. They presumably are all football fans, they should be against it. And unlike actual fans they have the very real power to kill it by refusing to participate. Yeah theyd all lose out on wages but every single one of the rich sixs first team squad are millionaires several times over. There is no excuse other than a similar greed to that of the owners.

A club without ownership how will that work doesn’t that imply new ownership? Can the fans rally around to buy the clubs involved? They have made their bed cheerio

E.g link petitions, contact points for MP, contact points for the club etc

 

It feels like we need to maintain the momentum and pressure - and everything helps.

But you can hold firm on the rule of unlicensed leagues cannot have games played in the UK? They simply need to tighten regs. around that, and don't grant the super league a license. 

Nothing about stopping a specific team.

I think the most diplomatic way these managers involved can handle this is to say something along the lines of “the club can do what it wants but I won’t be involved.”

 

The clubs’ owners need to get the message that they can’t just transplant their current management and players into the new competition. If they’re determined to do it, they’ll need to find willing participants - which is going to be next to impossible, given the strength of the backlash.

That's the thing, everyone's making the right noises at the moment, even the fanbases of the club's involved, but I think their gambit (which, unfortunately is probably right) is that in a few years time, when it's Liverpool vs Barcelona and the Reds score a last minute winner, there'll be many a scouser quietly, or overtly, celebrating - despite what opposition they might be making clear right now...
