Ricey Posted 25 August 2022 Share Posted 25 August 2022 There were rumours at the end of last season, possibly from John Percy, that some of the hierarchy were becoming unhappy with him. You would think that will have only got worse since then.

coolhandfox Posted 25 August 2022 Share Posted 25 August 2022 Rob Tanner article is just a rehash of what we have all observed and gives nothing new. String fellow Posted 25 August 2022 Share Posted 25 August 2022 I drove past the Seagrave entrance this morning on the way to Loughborough and briefly noticed a group of 3 or maybe 4 'demonstrators' holding up a wooden placard, seemingly intended for the players to see as they went into training. Does anyone know what that's all about?

Popular Post ian__marshall Posted 25 August 2022 Popular Post Share Posted 25 August 2022 Looking at the article from The Athletic I'm a bit concerned that the club have allowed Tanner to make it known that BR still has the confidence of the board. I appreciate that it'd be unprofessional to criticise him but to be seen to back him is very odd especially given recent performances and the growing discontent from the fans. Conversely, if he genuinely does have their backing still then you have to wonder what on earth they are seeing that the rest of us aren't. The man looks well out of his depth currently and neither his actions nor his historical track record suggest he's going to be able to turn this ship around.

If the idea was to off-load fringe players to raise money, then perhaps they need to look at asking prices. Especially if there were any truth to the story that, until a few days ago, we were still hoping to make a profit on Youri. Apart from that, for those who disapprove of the unadventurous possession-based football, remember that our board have long been fixated on it. Before they even took over, there were press reports that the potential new owners favoured a 'more continental style of football' than Pearson was playing. Their first proper appointment, a few months later, was Sven, who had a mandate to achieve this. The sacking of Shakespeare and appointment of Puel, much like the appointment of Rodgers, was grounded in a belief that counter-attacking football was unsustainable at this level and that we needed to transition. The fact that their greatest successes - promotion, the league, CL quarters, the FA Cup Final itself - were a consequence of a more direct game, should be making them re-evaluate, or at least look towards a more tactically adaptable leader in the future. In short, the board need to be looking at themselves, and not only because of staff or player contracts. Should they be looking at BR too? Definitely, though they have decided to go into a season with him in charge, so - given the difficult circumstances, even if they are partly of the manager's making - they can't fire him after three league games. Not for the media's sake, but for the dressing room's. And, by the way, if they replaced him with Poch, Potter, Bielsa etc., it wouldn't necessarily allay the fans' frustrations for long. Are they all, on paper, better appointments than Rodgers? Maybe, maybe not. Are their footballing ideas markedly different? Hmm. Either way, none of the names proposed have anything like the pedigree that, say, Sven had when he came to the club. So, for me, if the club do decide that they don't need to insist on a specific style of football, that they fancy a wider rethink, and that a new manager may help, I hope that neither prestige nor a penchant for purists' football are too high on their list of priorities.

What can the board do? Say no? Saying nothing which also means no? I can’t see the possibility of any club saying anything else in these circumstances. I’m praying the board issue a press release saying they’re giving him their full support so we can begin celebrating the imminent sacking.
