adejo92 Posted 24 August 2021 Share Posted 24 August 2021 Granted BR does have a tendency for getting a lot wrong, but how can we forget so much that he gets right! Some of the performances on that pitch were horrific and it would be unfair to blame BR for them. We should judge him more on how he goes about rectifying these issues. Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 24 August 2021 Share Posted 24 August 2021 Nice to win it though isn't it, I was gutted when we lost to man u after winning the league. Its good for momentum whether you try and laud it over other teams or count it as an actual trophy is up to you. I'm chuffed we won it though and think this debate about the relevance is a wee bit odd.
Matt Posted 24 August 2021 Share Posted 24 August 2021 People do realise its possible to acknowledge his achievements and be thankful whilst having concerns, criticisms and questions, the fact the same concerns, criticisms and questions keep being asked of him clearly mean there is an issue. He's done a brilliant job but last night keeps happening and far too often. Negative, passive football, scared to go forward, scared to play a forward pass, exclusively playing sideways passes, or go anywhere near the half way line, let alone over it. High possession stats though! Magnificent!! Do me a favour! West Ham have out-Leicestered (In our old style) us and we've played into their hands the last 3 times, they won't have an easier game this season. Pundits raved about West Ham last night, as good as they were and I question if they even were actually that good - it was a case of us stinking the place out, they didn't need to be good, anyone would have beat us last night. How we were do defensive, so negative, held the ball for so long and yet go dominated and spanked is beyond me. Yet we'll do it again and nothing will change. We can all see it, its too easy to play against, we all know what's going to happen from the first minute. I often see people reply sarcastically saying "Ahh you know more than a Premier League manager...why don't you do the job....what would you do then". That's not for me to say or find the answer too. He's the one getting paid the reddies, one of the higher paid managers in the league I believe? But ultimately we could all see and tell what was gonna happen last night, from minute one, if we can see it why can't he? If he can see it, why doesn't he atleast try and change something? We all know it'll happen again, and again, and again though. What's the saying? "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". That about sums the situation up.

Absolutely, it’s just as rare as rocking horse shit. Most of his critics disappear during the good runs and fail to do just this. Its also possible to be downbeat that we lost, acknowledge that mistakes were made, we don’t have the best manager in the world but still be overall happy. Quite often the attacks fail to acknowledge any of our limitations as a club.

Popular Post Duquesne Whistle Posted 24 August 2021 Popular Post Share Posted 24 August 2021 I've held my hands up before and said I didn't want Rodgers before his appointment. Despite his Midas touch in Scotland, I thought the very best he was going to be was a 'nearly' man once back in one of the major European leagues, whether with us, or some other club. In some ways, he would have been after the last two seasons, in which City lost their nerve in a similar way to his Liverpool squad in 2014. The ending to that campaign for Liverpool wasn't the same as our two collapses when favourites to finish top 4, but they had very definite parallels. The major difference though, is that he's finished 5th twice with, lets face it, an unfancied club, that simply can't be sniffed at. That is some effort, in any context. Despite the late season cliff falls, we've had an incredible two campaigns in reality. Not only is it almost impossible to break into the top 4, there's also a couple of clubs that overachieve by a surprising level every season. Sometimes they are relegation candidates at the start, who surprise everyone. Sometimes it's the bigger clubs. If those over performing clubs are, for example, Everton and Villa, rather than say, Watford and Palace, then we have a fight on our hands to finish higher than 7th, however good our squad is (that's before you even mention Spurs or Arsenal, who should both outperform us as clubs, if we're being totally realistic). Under those circumstances, Rodgers has done an unbelievable job and that's without even mentioning the small matter of the FA Cup adorning our trophy room now. I've long ago admitted to myself, and to others, that I was plain wrong about Rodgers. Nearly men don't win major trophies. In his short time with us, I think he has made even the most pragmatic amongst our support slightly more expectant. When the club performs as well as it has done over the last two seasons, it brings more expectation for each and every supporter, whatever their own personal view, that's only natural. I still don't like the fannying about across the back four, especially if you're never within 10 yards of the nearest opposition player. I don't like the pre-planned substitutions (and the apparent pre-planned time of them). I don't like his stubbornness when sticking to a system that clearly isn't working in games. I don't like trying to shut up shop after dominating a match and taking the lead, inviting unnecessary pressure....but I DO like the club winning trophies, I DO like going to places like Spurs and Arsenal and expecting to win for a change and I DO like annoying the fvck out of the traditional powerhouses, so I guess I'll put up with the other stuff I mentioned... This may be the season we really do have to readjust our sights. A good go at a cup, preferably Europa (though I'd settle for any of the 3) and a top 10 finish is fine with me. Unambitious? maybe. Realistic? probably. To suggest Rodgers should move on though, as the odd person seems to have done today, is pretty surprising and disappointing. 8
