If Maddison plays in a front 3 it won't be a traditional one, he's not going to hug the touchline. He will be narrow and hopefully have a bit of freedom to roam. Put it is this way, if the choice is Perez or Maddison I know who is more likely to create something. That said, that will, or should, only happen in certain games where a midfield 3 of Soumare, Tielemans and Ndidi might be required.

Maddison has played out wide a fair few times for us and never had a good game. Honestly, go on transfer markt website, find a game he's played on thr wing then come back on here, find the match thread from that game and go through it. 

 

It's so unnecessary as well, we might not be an endless pot of money but it riles me we'll have to play someone out of position because we've decided to spend all our money elsewhere for a 3rd season running.

How big was the squad yesterday, were ghezzal and Daley-campbell the only players not to get on?

 

Only reason I ask is we had the latter's family sat in front of us. Clearly on players freebie tickets (don't have an issue with that by the way) but heading to QPR for a pre season friendly you would have thought they had been told he was getting game time.

Isn't he from London, so probably pretty local for them.

I do agree, but some of them games were where we had a flat back 5 and barely crossed the halfway line. Arsenal away springs to mind. 

 

If Maddison wants to get a move to one of the 'elite' then he will need to show he can play as part of a fluid front 3. He's not being asked to be a winger in that formation, he's just down on the team sheet as wide right. 

 

If done properly, I see no reason why he can't impact games from this position but it's down to him and Rodgers to make sure he does. 

 

Ideally we sign someone and this becomes a mute point. Like I said, we don't need a midfield 3 and Maddison in the front 3 for most games.

Thought daka looked very good yesterday as did kdh which is nice to see he could be a big role for us this season. Now daka is here maybe vardy will get the rest he needs and can come if the bench and cause problems. Still snatching at a few chances but if he starts the season with a goal or 2 early on will do his confidence some good. Perez shouldn’t start to many games next season and think we should keep Ward  as a back up if he is willing to stay as jakupovic doesn’t look great but can’t really say to much as not sure how much game time at any level he has had over the last few years. Struggled a lot to get into football last season but quite excited for this one. Another winger and I think we could be in for another good season

Great find that. Ok that means as it stands we are likely to play 4231 against Wolves. Maddison will likely miss Villarreal but might be back for Man City, but Soumare as it stands will be dropped and we won’t play 433. 
 

The club stream yesterday indicated we were playing 4231 but Soumare was getting forward a lot. Either that’s intentional, or more likely part of his natural game that means we look like a 433.

 

Will be interesting to see how we use him though. For me he’s too good to leave out! A midfield of Ndidi, Tielemans, Soumare will dominate many games physically and eventually wear teams down, which is one reason Liverpool are so good.

I’m pretty sure that Brendan doesn’t want to throw bouba in at the deep end …..it’s up to him to force his way in
