Feeling we’ll finish 8-10th this season. Big teams have strengthened so top 4 is out I think. Top 6 outside chance.

Would like to progress in europa this season. European trophy would be bang on!

prove me wrong city!

Such an odd way to look at it…

It just doesn’t work like that. If it did then the same team would win the league each season and you could rank the 92 in the Football League into divisions based on ‘financial metrics’.

You also don’t account for the fact that Rodgers is not the 7th to 9th best paid manager in the league. If it’s all about ‘financial metrics’ then how does that come into play? Are we overpaying our manager versus what we reasonably expect him to deliver?

Every time? No, of course not. Most of the time in football? Yes. The team with the most financial resources wins the league in most leagues in most seasons. You put the list of the 92 together and I'd wager its not too far from accurate.

Yes, we are overpaying Rodgers.

you'd be happy with 10th?

With the way we are looking at the moment yes, would love us to sneak into a Europa league spot though.

I feel for BR this season he's had some bad luck, Fofana & Evans injured .

Plus Youri I feel has switched off a bit with his contract issues.

At the start of the season I said I would genuinely be disappointed if we finished lower than 5th, and despite our start that is still the case. Maybe West Ham now have a better team than us (but not squad) and have thrashed us the last 3 times we've played them, so perhaps they get 5th instead of us. But we are better than Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, Villa, etc and I would be disappointed if we finished below them.

If we do have an off season I won't throw my toys out of the pram as we've had such a good couple of years, and the Rodgers reign has already been enjoyable and memorable. I would like to see him see out his contract but Football is a brutal game and 99% of managers are either fired or are hired by another team instead of seeing out their contract. However, it is possible that Rodgers come the end of the season will have taken us as far as we can go. I really hope that isn't the case though and we turn it around! In attacking areas we've looked quite good in the last two league games, just need the defence to settle!

It's like watching top of the pops in the 80's, I reckon 8th worst case, if the Foxes have a really good run, and injuries / form start to effect our competition for 4th or 5th spot later on, we could conceivably get that elusive 4th place or 5th again, with a strong finish. Here's hoping!

Like most, I think I’ve had to re-assess my expectations for this season. Coming into it I was pretty confident we were the 5th best team in the country. However, our defensive weaknesses are glaringly obvious now and we look a relatively easy nut to crack.

The above combined with our Europa commitments, our next 3 games following on from Europa games are: Palace (a), Brentford (a) and Leeds (a) for which I can genuinely see zero points! Leeds & Brentford imparticular are tough places to go with midweek European commitments. Thus …. Based on current form but assuming that we HAVE TO improve soon, I can us finishing 8th ish.

Might settle in the final third of the season if we have JJ and Wes back and a fit JE....

Until then I can only see more of what we've already witnessed.

If we are getting zero Pts from Brentford palace and Leeds then we really are in trouble..

they ought to be fearing us after 2 fantastic seasons..

truth is though, we have lost that edge I reckon..

I feel like our expectations this year are probably our biggest problem. Probably been lowered based on our start but after 2 5th place finishes I suspect some will probably lose their shit when we don’t finish there again this season.

After the FA Cup win last season as well I think we will need to go far in a cup. A 7th place finish and going out of the cups early will be a failure.

People are too negative on here at the moment. Our points tally is poor, but we haven't been that bad. Individual errors and some unluckiness have resulted in dropped points more than poor performances. Vardy is in good form, we are making chances and in the last two games the system change has shown a lot of potential. Of course it could all go wrong, but for me it's nowhere near alarm bells yet. We had 4 new signings in the weekend team, and it will always take time for new players to settle.

A team can always go on a run at any point in the season. Under Rodgers it's usually been early on, but during the great escape we saved it right for the end, and we went on a great run after losing to Arsenal in 2016. We need a result and performance to kick start our season to get us going... it was looking good against Napoli but to be fair they were a great team and deserved their draw.

A lot will depend on injuries. If we can keep everyone fit and get JJ back soon and hopefully Fofana in the new year then we will start to look more solid. Also need Evans and Ricardo fully fit as both seem to have niggles. We have great attacking options and just need some stability at the back and for some of our players to find their top form again. We haven't been terrible this season and have had zero luck. It is a tough league though and there are no easy games so our defence will need sorting soon before we really start to drift away from the teams towards the top. Need a win against Legia to get some confidence back and them kick on from there.

holy shit you lot are miserable. our squad hasnt weakened, in fact it has strengthened, outside of the obvious top 4, no one near us has done enough recruitment wise to say theyre likely to have overtaken us, we have finished 5th, 2 times in a row, and spent more of that time in the top 4, and we have had a young squad, that will only get better. There is nothing to suggest we shouldnt be around 5th or 6th come the end of the season. Just because we have struggled recently means nothing. Liverpool, Chelsea and even City started last season awfully and they all finished in the top 4, one of them won the league and the other won the champions league. Poor starts with strong finishes happen all the time, and are historically favourable to a strong start but shaky finish.

Looking at our poor league form and the injuries doesnt make me optimistic but hopefully we'll be in the top half of the table come end of the season.

I'm not feeling confident about the Palace game but we should have no problem with thrashing Legia on Thursday :scarf:

For me it's more important the manner of performances across the season rather than the final position. If we finish 9th, for example, but we play some really good stuff, but get unfortunate with certain results and have a number of injuries to key players, I will be generally satisfied.

For me, the only game where the result was worse than the performance was Brighton - and there, we were comical for close to an hour before desperation tripped the alarm.  Every other match we were lucky to get what we got.

I'm sick of the injury excuse - every team has injuries.  I agree our squad, in a vacuum, is good enough for 5th-6th.  In real terms I don't think that's the case.  The construction of the squad is clearly out of balance, the manager isn't getting the most out of the players he has (partly through his own lineup decisions), and the performances generally lack energy and commitment.  On form now we're lower mid-table.  We have too much talent to finish there, I think, which is why I think 8th-10th most likely.  But it's going to require the manager playing his best and most in-form players, and certain teflon-coated passengers rounding into form and starting to pedal the bike instead of just riding for free.

I think this season will be a quiet one, top 10 finish with having a go in the cups. Very important to get all the squad players comfortably in the teams formations and style wise.

Next season will be hectic and I'd see that as our oppurtunity to disrupt the top and break into the champs league again.

Fifth.

We are having our traditional end of season collapse early this year.  We are doing it in reverse.

We finally get our first choice defence back after Christmas for the first time in 18 months, Maddison will remember how to play football and a forward line of Vardy, Daka and Nacho will emerge to tear up the league.  We will make a late charge for top four and narrowly miss out on the last day of the season.  Again.

If we had our strongest 11 this and strongest 11 that. Get a grip! EVERY team in the league could say the same. Injuries are part and parcel of the game and we have to suck it up like every other team.

That is why you have a squad and strength in depth is so important.

We have a much stronger squad than most teams and many would love to be in our position.

We will finish where we deserve to finish regardless of injuries. We will be fine top 6/7 for me.
