What are our current expectations?

We've still got the players to finish top 6

 

But right now we can't create and can't defend. Not once this season have we deserved the win and unless we actually turn up soon we are going to be midtable at best.

This.

 

But fearing we will end up out of the Europa in the group stages and finsih 7th/8th in the league.

Exactly my thinking, we should be finishing top 8 as a par, an a good cup run at the end of the season, anything above that like the last 2 seasons is a slight over achievement.

4-6th based on squads fully fit. Last few seasons 5th is the absolute lowest we should finish due to how bad the north London clubs are.

This year we’ve had really bad injuries to who I’ve thought for over a year now, is the most impressive player we’ve ever had by first impressions when I saw Fofana play, is proving even better by every day we miss him.

Taking all this is to account. 5-7th is fair I’d say but with the squad depth we have and attacking options, really below 7th is still not good enough.

We had a worse team with Puel and he still managed 9th.

This feels like we will get below 9th this year and with this squad, would be an absolute failure.

This just shows what I’ve been saying all through the last couple of seasons that ‘Brendan isn’t a good manager but had inherited a top class squad’ and I also said last season ‘next year he’ll struggle and get sacked because we’ll have a weaker squad and we’ll drop like a brick’(I actually thought Youri would be gone rather than Fofana unfortunately serious injury).

Fact remains, despite being weaker, below 7th is unacceptable really.

Top has financed signings and kept all our top men as far, it’s poor poor management and recruitment what we’ve seen this season, and the worse thing about it is it’s relentless.

Not ONE game have we deserved to win and played even remotely well, and I challenge anyone to argue that.

Today was horrific at times – but I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to LCFC. 

 

There was a stat towards the end of last season (2020-21), showing that we'd spent the most days inside the top three over the past two seasons – more than Man C, Liverpool, Man U...more than anyone. Yet we finished outside the top 4 on both occasions. 

 

We all know what happened during those seasons – a huge collapse in the last 5-10 games. 


So I'm hoping that we are now getting the bad run out of our system early and then slowly build and sort our form, tactics and new way of playing. 

 

Don't forget, we have some really useful additions to integrate in key areas (Soumare, Daka) while we also wait for some key players to come back from injury (Fofana, Justin, Evans) and others to rediscover their form (Madders, Ricardo, Barnes, Soyuncu). 

I'd love us, the fans, to just stay behind the team. We haven't been great – in fact, pretty abject – but it's early days yet and we have more than plenty enough time to correct our course. Let's not panic and stay positive!

We had a poor old aging team in 17/18 and got 9th purely because of Vards. He then was building a team in 18/19 but needed time to get the likes of Ricardo Madders up a level and Tielemens signed just before he was sacked.

So Brendan inherited the perfect storm - our best player joining instantly Puel never had that luxery, and he knew it which is why he cut off Celtic instantly knowing the job wouldn’t wait for him.

So what do you not understand about that? Brendans had a better squad than Puel and to be honest a better squad than we’ve ever had in our entire history between 2019-21. So if he finishes below 9th it’ll be pathetic imo.

I actually think below 7th will be not acceptable but below 9th will be laughable considering everything.

Its time people start realising that now he hasn’t got a perfect squad of strength and his decisions are trickier, he will show how limited he is.

Ive said it all along but our strength of our squad has kept the narrative than he’s such a great coach.

Lets be honest when you have Youri, Wilf, Fofana, Evans, Justin, prime Ricardo, prime Vardy all in flow, the arguement is dead that ‘he got us to 5th because he’s such a good coach’ - he got us to 5th because we had a top class squad and top class recruitment.

 

Bad luck with injuries but good coaches adjust, let’s see if he actually can adjust and use his coaching skills rather than relying on an easy talent pool to get his success.

You could pretty much say the same thing about Pep, Klopp, and many 'great' coaches...

My general expectations are quite modest really

 

i) to see us get stuck in and have a go

ii) to see us play with positive intent to create regular chances and score goals

iii) to see at least a reasonable level of defensive competence

iv)  to watch a team picked on merit

v( to be entertained

vi) to see improvement in areas where there are clearly obvious deficits
