It's probably already been said, but it feels like it's time to go back to sitting deep and playing on the counter attack again until a few of our key players return from injury. Vardy's on fire, so let's unleash him old school.

Schmeichel

Ricardo Amartey Soyuncu Thomas

Albrighton Tielemans Ndidi Barnes

Iheanacho Vardy

Need to bring in an all star team to give this squad any chance.

My money is on Darren Brown, Derek Acura and Uri Geller.

Derren Brown for motivation and belief. Derek Acura to contact players who have passed on for ideas and Uri Geller to fix any watches and bend spoons.

With our current injuries i'd probably change tactics and go very counter attacking play choudary and soumare holding tielemans creating and any of our attacking players in a front 3 combo

I feel that our defence gets overrun most games and would like to see a genuine 3- man midfield (I.e. players like Maddison don't come into that definition).  We need Ndidi/Soumare to protect the defence, Hamza to give us aggression and mobility, and Tielemans to provide the craft;  with KDH there to provide cover for injury etc . This would give more protection of the defence but also a good springboard for the attack.  At the moment, on current form I would have Iheanacho, Vardy and Lookman as the front 3, but many combinations are possible with Barnes, Maddison, Daka etc.

We need Evans back. Back 4 with Ricardo, Cags and Timmy until JJ and Fofana are back.

Until JE is back we need to help the defence out by keeping the ball better and giving them better protection.

Would be tempted to try a midfield diamond of Choudhury, Soumare, Tielemans and Lookman/Barnes/Maddison with Vardy and Kel up top.

Also have a feeling that we’re missing having Morgan and Fuchs in the dressing room. Whilst they didn’t play much in their final season I think their presence did more than we probably realised

I wouldn't have got us in this mess in the first place. Injuries aside I'd have made sure that the team and squad were better balanced.

That means more height, pace and physical presence. Not to unlike WH or Palace as seen on Sunday.

As for were we are now, Neither the Mendy, Benkovich or Praet situations show Brendan in a good light and I'm not sure it is a lack of form or a protest against him and his methods. He has made a lot of questionable decisions lately and his methods are I suspect frustrating the players.

We need to get back to basics, Solid defence a midfield block with Width on both sides to create space for the Strikers.

I'd also play both strikers both Vardy and Daka working the defence with Iheanacho playing the support roles just behind those two. It can be mixed up with the inclusion of Barnes etc depending on the opposition.

I'd encourage us to move the Ball quicker looking for wherever the space is. If the opposition sit deep we play in front of them. If they push up we play behind them.

But it goes without saying that you've got to have the players playing for you, otherwise no system is going to be good enough.

Back 3, swap the family stand with the kop, no more club led tifos, no slanderous chants, more noise at the kp, although less loutish behaviour (I'm ex forces you know), don't play hamza, sack brendan, replace him with that guy from celtic and above all else say I told you so.

Think that'll sort it?

I'm glad somebody's been brave enough to come out and say this! I've been thinking this for years!

Come on then, what's the answer? We've several key players injured and several out of form. What on earth do we do?

How do we get our two in form players in Iheanacho and Vardy on the pitch at the same time, whilst also having a strong enough defence and midfield?

How do we get Daka much needed game time and what's now the goal for this season? If we miss out on European football is it the end of the road for us? Will it be such a bad thing to rip this team up and rebuild again given our recent recruitment success or is it a worry that even if Brendan goes we've still got Lee Congerton?

I don't want us to go to a back 3/5 but then what midfield and defence is good enough in a 4-4-1-1 / 4-4-2 with this next run of really difficult games before Ndidi returns?

Is it time for Benkovic to be thrown in in the hope he somehow does OK with Soyuncu? Or do we not need to worry as Evans is going to be OK as he's ill not injured.

I think I'd sacrifice Barnes for a few games and stick either Soumare or KDH in to the midfield with Soyuncu and Amartey as the CB's if Evans is unavailable. We may need to practice how we maintain the width if we don't have 2 wingers but KDH tends to drift wide and Lookman could be given a free role to operate in a 4-3-1-2 like Rodgers loved at Liverpool during his best spell before the slip. Lookman would be Sterling in this instance. Daka could be given the final 20 mins for a renewed attack and Barnes and Maddison have to prove their worth with sub appearances where required, they can slot in to this system of sorts.

It's by no means any better than what we've already tried, but the one constant is those 2 up top have to play right now. They score or create almost all of our goals and given how desperate we are elsewhere it's just madness to go with anything else. Our defence needs simplifying but it needs pace as well which Vestergaard doesn't have and I'm not sure there's a defensive partner we have here that covers his limitations in a back 4. He's evidently a back 3/5 defender but we just don't have the players for that system, certainly not at the minute if at all with this squad.

This next run of games is crucial (aren't they all) but we've stumbled in to this break with some pretty shocking results against some teams we ought to beat and with what's to come it could well get worse which is a harrowing thought. It would come as no surprise if we didn't win more than 1 of our next 5 league games and we could be all but out of Europe by the too. We'd be in a very dark place if that happens and I fear for the future.

We have to get some divine inspiration, we have to get Evans on the pitch and keep him there and we have to have a midfield that can get the ball in to our strikers and then maintain a good fight in the middle when we're under the cosh. We can do it, this regime has been unbelievable given the horrendous injuries and setbacks we've had and I don't want to see it fall apart in this way.

Come on Brendan, time to regroup and earn your wedginals.

Stop trying to pass it out from the back. The world is finally seeing that Kasper isn’t “good with his feet” and neither are any of the back four. Vesty looks good but plays the same ball every time. That drop the shoulder, I’m gonna knock it out wide but pass down the middle - and that’s not working. Our oppo know the merest bit of pressure causes chaos at the back and that panic spreads through the team.

I really like your 4312 idea. Barnes needs to not start for a game or two, bolster the middle of the park with KDH and Soumare who have legs, strength but can pass and take some pressure off Youri for passing and most of all, running.

Get Cags back to LCB with Big Dan on the right. Let Bertrand have a rest over the next two weeks and tell him to focus on defending and keeping it simple and helping Cags. He was hired for his experience and presence as much as his ability. He needs to show he can do that as without Johnny we miss a leader. Fofana is a special talent and can get himself out of trouble and reads the game, but his leadership by example is missed. Keep Tim on the right. Let Ricky P play back into contention and maybe double stack him on the right with Tim as he plays his way back.

Did I mention stop trying to play from the back??

There is a sports psychologist 👍

Sack him then.

Then sack everyone.

Then re-employ them and sack them again just to keep the new hires on their toes.

Then, on their first day in the job, give them a really good booing.

Then sack them.

I'd take a long term view and invest in a state of the training centre, with the best possible practice and medical facilities to improve our fitness and finally put in a new pitch......oh wait....

You look through the squad and ask who's hungry enough, who's committed enough and who's reliable enough to scrap results. I would keep Vardy and Nacho as the front two. Lookman is trying his hardest so he'd be in. Castagne for sure. Thomas - because he was fantastic when he was put in a sink or swim position. He deserves starting and I only hope he's not been demotivated by being knocked back by Rodgers. I agree with Amartey and Söyüncü. Soumare and KDH because they've the incentive of establishing themselves. Albrighton because he always gives his all. This is controversial but Choudhury as a libero covering the centre backs. He's calm - and he might operate well in the confined space at the back.

Madders looks better recently.

Above all I'd concentrate on who might play well in and as a team - rather than allowing formations to dictate which players get chosen.

Isn't that what we were doing when Palace scored? Whatever happens our defense has to be worked with by the staff in training. Currently only Ricardo is better than Simpson, the rest (sadly including Thomas) just aren't as solid. TBF nor were we in the first half of our winning season.

But working with what we've got I would swap Albrighton over for Barnes until he knows how to track back and support the RB. What would Mads be like over on the RW?

Get Ndidi and Hamza playing the double pivot role and we’ll have a much better chance at getting a clean sheet.

With those two there you could have your fullbacks bombing forward and 3 attacking mids behind a striker.

Hamzas confidence will grow too hopefully, he’ll never become a baller but all his job should be is to win the ball back and make short simple passes. Similar to Ndidi but his passing is a fair bit better.

Gerblod and jmono84 - 2 good posts that I think are pointing in the right direction.  We certainly need to include the players who will apply themselves for the cause, and do something to strengthen the midfield so that the defence is better protected and Youri is given the space to flourish again.

Hopefully Evans is back after the IB and we can think about 352 with Ricardo and Castagne wide, Youri and Bouba in the middle probably along with Hamza whilst Wilf is out. Vardy and Kel up top.

Posted

Give Youri a break from football for a couple of weeks.  He's a great player and when he plays well we improve as a team but right now he looks jaded, and no wonder as he's been playing almost every match for us plus his Belgium duties for the past year plus.  We need him to be rested and refreshed to get the best out of him.

What we don't do is hire another half dozen players thinking it will solve our problems. They will not be solved in the transfer market. We have the players (bar Mendy) we need. Motivation is the problem and that is up to Rodgers ,that is 50% of his job.

The biggest question is why Brendan appears to have had a personality transplant and abandoned his apparent preferred style of play.

I've been saying this for a few weeks now, his personality seems to have lost it's 'spark'. I don't think I've seen those shiny veneers since the end of August!

Fly some Buddhist Monks over to heal Jonny Evans injury so he can play once a week otherwise we're fked. Make a decision on which competition is more important and play Jonny in that competition for his 1  game per week. Play the following formation while Ndidi is out:

                     Kasper
        Big Dan, Evans, Cags
Ricardo                                 Castagne
              Youri     Soumare
Nacho      Lookman (No 10's behind Vardy but can drift out wide & rotate with Madders, Barnes & Perez when needed)
                      Vardy

Bring in a top Sports Dr/Sports Scientist to independently review and get to the bottom of the never ending injury crisis that the squad has been going through for the past 18 months.  Employ better fitness coaches, sports scientists, physios, psychologists and adjust training programs etc etc based on the outcome of the review.
