HankMarvin Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 GUNNERS GO MAD Arsenal and bitter rivals Tottenham set for £60million summer transfer scrap for Leicester playmaker James Maddison TOTTENHAM are ready to battle bitter rivals Arsenal for £60million-rated Leicester star James Maddison. The Foxes could be tempted to cash in on Maddison in order to invest in other areas of their squad — but will want a massive fee for the England international. Both Spurs and Arsenal are long-term admirers of the playmaker, who is enjoying the best goalscoring season of his Leicester career with 13 strikes. He has just over two years left on his current contract. The Gunners have been linked with Maddison again in recent days but Tottenham are also understood to have a genuine interest in signing the 25-year-old this summer. Spurs shipped out three attacking midfielders in January, selling Dele Alli to Everton and sending Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso out on loan to Lyon and Villarreal respectively. Boss Antonio Conte is a fan of Maddison and keen to increase his attacking options. But the Italian’s No.1 priority is signing a new left-sided centre back, so a move for Maddison may depend on Tottenham being able to sell Ndombele and/or Lo Celso. Reports suggest Lyon will not be taking up the option to re-sign the France international that they sold to Spurs for an initial £54m fee in 2019. Villarreal are interested in a permanent deal for Lo Celso, however, which would boost Conte’s war chest. Maddison may regard a fresh start as the best way to boost his fading hopes of playing at the World Cup later this year. He missed out on Euro 2020 and has not returned to the England squad despite his impressive form this season. Leicester face some tough decisions this summer. Youri Tielemans is yet to sign a new contract and will have only a year left on his current deal this summer. The Foxes would be reluctant to lose two key players from their midfield in the same summer but a big offer for Maddison would give them a chance to revamp their squad. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/18220239/transfer-news-arsenal-tottenham-maddison/
MPH Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 Don’t want to sell him but if they offer 80m our board won’t turn that down.. 1
mozartfox Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 And so it starts. Youri and Madders in the same window???
Nalis Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 Spurs If they are driving up Arsenal's offer then fair enough. 1
frany104 Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 I’m not keen on the idea of selling two of our best players in a window as that’s what leads to teams fighting for relegation. However, if we can get £80 mill and it all gets reinvested in the squad we could be better off as long as the recruitment is upto scratch. That’s the big question looking though. Our recent history doesn’t fill me with confidence. 1 1
Lesta2014 Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 Also I reckon he may fancy this move to either as he may see it as getting him in the England squad. Depends how settled he is here I suppose.
ALC Fox Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 I'd have thought Tottenham's priority would be to take Eriksen back there on a free, giving Conte money to strengthen other areas of the team. As for Arsenal, they already have Ødegaard and Smith Rowe. Both may be stuttering a little now but they've both had excellent spells and both are fan favourites. If they sign Madders, it'll end in tears for at least one of the three. Maybe we should ask for Ødegaard or Smith Rowe in part payment (I know these deals are rarely done). They may be keeping tabs on Maddison in case a space opens up in the squad but currently I think they'd only try to sign him if something goes awry with one of their other options. 2
ronnup Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 If we lose Youri and Maddison in one window we're in trouble 3
fox_up_north Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 Surely it's a contract issue? Though we are in a world cup year. I'd be surprised if both Madders and Youri go. Can see Youri leaving freeing up money to waft at a new contract for him, in order to snuff out the interest.
An Sionnach Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 A revamp. What exactly does that mean? Its a sure way to end up with a uncoordinated mess and slipping into the relegation zone. We can cope losing Tielemans but both would be ridiculous. I would argue that we only really need two players if Youri goes. A replacement and another DM option. I am expecting Praet to come back as well. 1
coolhandfox Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 All depends if he willing to sign a new deal. We can't be in the same situation as Youri with Maddison as a football club we can't have players worth 50m plus going down down to a year on there contact and leaving for 25m. If he will sign one this summer keep, if not sell.
jonthefox Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 If true i can see him going. He seems like the sort that would be attracted by London life and the profile it would bring.
Popular Post TommyK Posted 10 April 2022 Popular Post Posted 10 April 2022 We should be building a team around Madison. He's a game changer. 4 1
Focks Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 Always best to sell players at their peak.. £70m + should be accepted
davieG Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 How would Maddison going affect any Euro squad if we qualify?

Popular Post Foxes96 Posted 10 April 2022 Popular Post Posted 10 April 2022 Just don’t see where he fits at any of the big 6. Doesn’t fit in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation, Arsenal have Odegaard and ESR in his position already, United have Fernandes on a new long term deal, Chelsea have Mount and again play 3-4-3 under Tuchel and Madders probably isn’t good enough to get into Liverpool or Man City’s teams. Strikes me as either lazy journalism, or to help force a new contract. Think we’re actually the best place for him, and with Youri likely off there’s a strong chance the whole rebuild and set up of the squad will be built around Madders here. Hope he stays 5
5waller5 Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 I absolutely want to keep Madders and Youri. But if we got a combined £150m for the two it would give us the funds for the 5-6 players BR wants to refresh the squad with? 2

Finnegan Posted 10 April 2022 Posted 10 April 2022 It's the Sun regurgitating a transfer rumour from the summer to get clicks. 1

Although I agree £150m is optimistic, it might be a case of meet the valuation or no sale for JM at least
