With the World Cup being in Nov / Dec, what impact will it have on our Premier League season?

At the moment, I don’t think we’ll lose that many players, however I was thinking it might give us a boost.

Teams that have lots of players going to Qatar, might be suffering from the old “trying not to get injured” syndrome. Our players will also get a mid season break, so may be refreshed for a restart.

The final is on the 18th of December, with the first Premier League fixtures on Boxing Day. Consequently when coming back, the World Cup is the pinnacle of football, so if you lose, does that mentally impact a player and their performance?

Or is it a bit like AFCON where they just slot back in?

Feel free to merge into the Premier League 22/23 is required!

Not really thought about the impact really.

I love big international tournaments & watch as many games as possible.

This should be a good WC as players won’t be tired after playing a full season.

l don’t think we will be impacted too much, player wise. Can’t wait !

Kasper Schmeichel - Will certainly play.
James Justin - Outside chance of being on the plane given lack of left wingback options and Chilwell's injury.
Wesley Fofana - Probably won't make the France squad.
Çağlar Söyüncü - Turkey didn't qualify.
Ryan Bertrand - lol
Jonny Evans - Northern Ireland didn't qualify.
Harvey Barnes - Probably won't make the England squad.
Youri Tielemans - Won't be a Leicester player.
Jamie Vardy - Retired from international duty.
James Maddison - Outside chance of being in the England squad given his form this year. Will probably be in the Nations League squad.
Marc Albrighton - Won't make the England squad.
Danny Ward - Will play if Wales win their qualifiers.
Kelechi Iheanacho - Nigeria didn't qualify.
Ayoze Pérez - Won't make the Spain squad.
Daniel Amartey - Will play for Ghana but they're in a tough group.
Hamza Choudhury - Won't make the England squad.
Ricardo Pereira - Hasn't played for Portugal since before his injury in 2019. Portugal's fullback options are great so I'd be surprised if he's involved.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - Outside chance of being in the England squad.
Jannik Vestergaard - Will play for Denmark.
Nampalys Mendy - Will play for Senegal and they're in a fairly easy group.
Wilfred Ndidi - Nigeria didn't qualify.
Timothy Castagne - Might make the Belgian squad.
Patson Daka - Zambia didn't qualify.
Luke Thomas - Won't make the England squad.
Eldin Jakupović - Hasn't played for Switzerland since 2008.
Boubakary Soumaré - Won't make the France squad.

I hope Ndidi, Iheanacho and Lookman get through the World Cup, okay.

But wait, Nigeria...

This will be the first time that we'll have 2 big pre-season sessions. No European football for us, only a few players with international duties, we need to be prepared, have a plan, proceed with some good signings and aim for top 4-6 next season.

I reckon the upcoming World Cup will be a disaster. Players and managers  will start complaining from the moment they arrive there.

It could actually work out in our favour given we'll have relatively few players going, most of our key players will be resting over winter which we'll need after two intensive seasons.

Castagne will defo get called up. We are going to lose 8 players max. I’m sure it’ll give the lads a chance to go away for a couple of weeks then as our players start drip feeding back training will intensify again.

We're probably going to be the least effected team out of the top 7-8 when in comes to losing players. If Rodgers gets the team playing like we know they can, it could be a very good season for us.

can see a lot of teams having friendlies behind closed doors for the players not going.

With this and no European football it SHOULD play into our hands. A little bit like Arsenal this season.

Would like us to really go for both cups next season.

That doesn't include the 5 world class players we will be signing this summer though ;)

No offence but if you're a football fan then I bet you do :D

No, I won't. Haven't watched any qualifiers, either. It's a small thing but I don't want to contribute to it. Would be the same if we were taken over by the Saudis/ Qataris - I just wouldn't engage.

This whole WC in the middle of the season is a fuching shambles. Flies in the face of the integrity of the sport. I won't be watching and just hope none of our players get injured.

It’s a nonsense to be sure. We’ve had two disrupted seasons in a row and this will be a third. Also, there is plenty of stuff going on in November and December that the World Cup will detract from. Not to mention the corruption and modern slavery that purchased and built the World Cup for Qatar.

Fair play to you if you don’t watch it, there are so many issues I have with this World Cup, and the scheduling within the season is the least of my issue. I would love to say boycott and don’t watch it, but when that first game kicks off, I know I’ll be sat there watching and will do throughout the tournament.

As well could missing out on Europe, I've been trying to work out roughly the schedule for next season and the European group stages schedule is mad. 6 midweek games between second midweek of September to first week of November.

The German FA always publish this every season, has all the matchdays and key dates on. It shows the European ones in there too which should help give you an idea.

Not sure where the Carabao Cup will fit in next season. Don't know why the English FA (along with the EFL) don't publish something like this, surely they know by now.

Yeah that's what I have been plotting from alongside the EFL confirming Carabao Cup dates. I think I pretty much have it worked out.

Carabao Cup after the second round in mid August is going to be clustered from November 8th to February 26th (Final). Three midweeks in January for the QFs and Semis. Fourth Round will be the same as this season - a few days before Xmas and the first game after the World Cup.

The PL have confirmed that 16 games will be played by 14th November and season ends 28th May. Expectation is that Cup Final will be June 3rd as the CL Final is June 10th. 3 midweek games and 1 bank holiday for the league - the rest Weekends. Christmas will likely be 26th, 28th-29th and NYD (one of these will be the bank holiday fixture). FA Cup Third Round - 7th January.

I project midweek fixtures in the final week of August (after the bank holiday) and 18-19th October. That's the easier part as every other midweek in first half of the season has Cup or European games or an international break.

Second half of the season will have a midweek round either 7th Feb, 4th April or 2nd May. I reckon 7th Feb as the other two dates will be used for the rearrangements accounting for the Carabao Cup Final (25/26th Feb), FA Cup Quarter-Finals (prob. 18th March) and FA Cup Semi-Finals (prob. 22nd April).

Plenty of leagues from around the world play during the summer months of the Northern Hemisphere. Some leagues somewhere are always going to be disrupted whenever the tournament is held.

It’s called the World Cup, after all, not the Euros with Special Guests.
