If Soumare goes, with the uncertainty over Youri and BR saying (before getting his wings clipped) he wanted two midfielders you would think he would want to bring in at least one more. We have seen occasional flashes of what he is capable of but on the whole he hasn't really shown anything near the right level. He's also a bit of a niche player - he isn't a CDM, he's not a deep lying playmaker like Youri and he very rarely scores or assists, which as a CM you really need to do these days. I hate it when we do this with players - only give them a year… it makes no sense particularly when they are young lads from abroad. An opportunity to complete a deal for Diop seems to now have gone because we will not have the space for him to come in and Soumare apparently wanted the move. Comparing Camarra with Soumare, they appear very similar in progressing play and good in possession, whatever package we presented, just wasn't good enough. We need 2-3 long term midfield incomings, a DCM / box to box physical midfielder such as Kone or Thuram, a creative playmaker like Auoar or Kokcu and then an ACM / SS to replace what Perez should be doing when challenging Maddison for a spot, hopefully Alves and Braybrooke can be in the mix for 2 of those replacements but there's probably room for them as well as new additions as we use a lot of central midfielders and a lot of then are going in the next 12 months except for Ndidi, KDH and Maddison.
