Can't quite work this out. Why voluntarily add another year on to a £60k p/w contract?

Backing Hamza to make a name for himself at that level with proper game time. Good shout I think.

Yes same here. I think he’ll be fine at Watford. Good move for all parties I suspect

Good luck to him. I think he's a good player but came through at the wrong time for us.

Would have loved to have seen him under Nige when we were in the Championship.

I think his level is lower Premier League so I think a move to a high end Championship team with room for him to grow as a player is a good move. I think we all agree his time here was/is up so best for him to move on.

In normal circumstances, not when the club is meant to be bloated and the wage to turnover is appalling.

We have been told it’s not about transfer money, in which case getting rid of a player with 12 months to go of his contract for 50% of his wage would’ve been a good idea.

Arsenal had to pay off a lot of their deadweight to leave, on the upside we have just extended in the hope of getting what 5m? for a player in the final year of his contract next season.

Downside he get injured, or has a crap season as bit part player and his stock falls and no takers on £30k next season.

Back to see final season out on £60k

I see your point but I think the potential upside with Hamza is worth the risk. He's been highly rated as a young player coming through, has always had suitors, and would offer the right club/manager/system a lot. He's just not found that with us. If this was a move we'd pull with another player - say Vestergaard - who has very limited scope to increase his value I'd be right behind you. In the same way this is different to what Arsenal have done, as they were shifting older players on the decline like Mustafi, Kolasinac and Ozil.

We've done the important thing in clearing the books of £30k per week for this season. So we give ourselves that wiggle room now, when we need it. Next summer we'll have more options available to us give the list of players out of contract. ,

If we don't get a taker on £30k pw next season, we might get one on £25k, £20k pw etc etc. This move gives us more options and even if he bombs it's highly, highly unlikely we'll end up shelling out £60k pw.

Every chance that his extra year isn't at £60k. But even then we don't exactly have to offer him for that much money to attract interest. Especially if he plays well in the Championship.

Worst case scenario we have to pay him £3m, best case is he gets promoted with Watford as a big part of their side and we have their pants down for it.

For me, it's worth the risk. Even if he just has a good season I think there will be teams that would want him for a small fee.

He's not THAT bad.

We will soon see how good he is.

Can't see why we wouldn't just let him leave on a free at the end of his loan. Can't be worth much.

The shouts of 'What If' just typifies a lot of posters on this forum, i guess they stay in bed all day because what's the point of getting out if your only going to go back in at the end of the day :dunno:

Heads n Tails on every signing & contract, we offer Ricardo a new 4yr deal unfortunatley he gets injured ...but What if he didn't, what if he rediscovered his form had a standout few months became the Portugal RB for the W/Cup had a great tournament & the big clubs came a sniffing again & we got offered big money because they wanted a player with 4yrs on his contract, we'd all be rubbing our hands together yes.. but what if we didn't give him a 4yr contract & all that happened there would be calls of Rudkin/Club (well lets be honest Rodgers would be blamed) for allowing him to run down his contract.

it means we are guaranteed to get a fee for him which would more than pay for any outlay in wages we are paying for this year..

lol well at least a portion of his wages are off the books. I don't think anyone at the club realises how poor he is. There's not a chance Watford sign him at the end of the season.

Re Choudhury - #LCFC exercised two year option before season’s loan to #WatfordFC agreed, therefore midfielder is contracted at KP until 2024 hence option to buy.

That and further details here for @TheAthleticUK

so if they don’t want him we’re stuck with his large wages till 2024???

and he probably rejects the moves anyway as wages never going to be what he is on here

That is if you assume that he wouldn’t go somewhere else again next summer

I always find it strange that some players at this level "can't pass". I know we can't expect every player to dribble like Messi, or score like Vardy, but being unable to pass seems to be a big barrier (to me) to being a Premier league footballer.

There's a difference between a Premier league player who cant pass and a normal player who cant pass. Premier league midfielders like choudhury who are considered "poor passers" still have 80+% pass success rate whilst being under pressure by other premier league midfielders. The standard response to it is that "oh but he only passes backwards and sideways" which further proves my point that premier league midfielders are also expected to be able to pull off line breaking passes regularly, something that the best passer in your Sunday league side could pull off 1 in every three times and you would think he's the best passer you've ever seen but if choudhury makes it 50% off the time he's seen as crap.

The standards for a poor passer in the premier league are still higher than any player you've played with in person or seen up close.

Wes as the DJ 😄. Hamza should be chomping at the bit and should do very well. Steve Bruce must be livid.

It's an option to buy rather than an obligation so it does not guarantee that. If they aren't sufficiently impressed then he'll be back here and we'll be trying to ship him out again.

Good luck to him, he's still only 24 (honestly thought he was a bit older) so yet to enter his prime. He's always given 100% and it will be interesting to see what he can do in yellow colours again.

I hope the contract extension is on reduced terms else we're back in the same situation next summer.

Options to take up further years are also on exatly the same as previous terms.

Hang on. So the club are still paying him. You can see why some of these players aren’t keen to leave, unless there’s a wacking great signing on fee and other enticements.
