Similar to when Hugh helped with Morgan becoming a better defender, Amarty is looking much more composed. Doesn't seem to be making silly tackles or passing it around the box or under hitting his passes.

Overall pass completion of 85.2 which is solid, his medium pass completion though was 93.9, the 15th best in terms of outfield players in Ligue 1.

 

I thought losing Fofana’s ball carrying ability would hurt us a bit, but when we signed Faes you could see from certain statistics why we were interested in him.

 

What I didn’t expect to see is his leadership material qualities flourish so quickly. He also has a mix of modern day and old school ability, as I said above, he’s more than comfortable on the ball, plus he absolutely loves to defend, which gives off strong Robert Huth & Marcin Wasilewski type vibes.

More importantly, he knows when to carry the ball and when to not.

I would happily make him our first choice CB, and would pair Amartey and Soyuncu with him ahead of Evans. He's a real leader and brings out the best of his partner.

 

Amartey, who, let's be fair, has been a complete bomb scare for years, is one of the highest performing CBs in the premier league over the last 7 matches. If he Faes can do that to Dan Amartey, imagine what a player Soyuncu could be next to him.

Not sure if I’d rather have him or Fofana but what I do know is that those two would have made the perfect centreback partnership.

The Belgium international has been a key figure in his side’s defence this campaign. Het Nieuwsblad had a chat with him, and he was asked whether he expected he’ adapt to the needs of English football quickly.

 

Faes said: “Honestly? Not really. The difference with the Ligue 1 is big. The pace here in England is absurd. It goes up and down constantly, actually you don’t have a second to blow out. But I do think that the competition is made for me.

 

“If you don’t go into duels 100% here, you hurt yourself. I like it that way. I think they are happy with me here. As soon as it was possible, I was dropped into the team and after that I didn’t go out. The fact that the results are now also improving makes it even better.

 

“I was curious about that integration at first. There are some guys here with very solid careers, who have even won the Premier League. But everyone is really down to earth. I get on well with everyone, especially Jamie. A very nice guy.”

 

The defender was asked to explain what he brings to the current Leicester side: “Grit, I think. A good tackle or a block that prevents a goal: I enjoy that so much. The entire team now radiates that: the absolute will to keep a clean sheet. But to be clear, that’s not just [to] my credit.”

 

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old remains hopeful his fine displays for Leicester are enough to convince Belgium manager Roberto Martínez to include him in De Rode Duivels’s squad for the World Cup.

 

“No [I didn’t hear from Martínez], but I have seen him. He was present as an analyst at the match against Leeds, I shook his hand before kick-off. I happened to become man of the match then, so he must have seen that.

Faes is of the belief he has done enough at Leicester to make it to Qatar with Belgium.

 

When asked how big the disappointment would be if he’s left out of the squad, the player said: “Pretty big. The World Cup is the highest attainable, everyone wants to go there. But I don’t think I can blame myself anyway.

 

“I can only say that I have done everything within my means. I play at the highest possible level, and I am in the best period of my career. Hopefully that’s enough to convince the national team coach.”

I don’t remember Kante settling that quickly? Took him several games to get into the team

It’s his aggression for me. He attacks the ball which we have been really lacking. Down our side yesterday he could have just put the ball out but instead decided to slide in and put the player into touch too - I blummin loved it

He only played a few minutes of the home win against Sunderland but (I think) played around half an hour in the away win at West Ham. I was there and I remember thinking he looked something special - he was all over the West Ham players like a rash. People were talking about it in the pub afterwards.

Literally remember the same thing, when he first came on thought and said if that kid is constant he is a nailed on starter,  then next game he proved it was no flash in the pan.  was brilliant from the first time he touched the ball.
