Popular Post ScrumpyJack Posted 3 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 3 April 2023 Outstayed his welcome, genuinely wish him the best as we had some cracking times. A little bit miffed that if we do go down his reputation won’t be as tarred. Absolutely fuming his pundit pals are saying he wasn’t backed. Buying players he wanted such as Perez at a complete premium meant we shifted away from our philosophy. The initial outlay and wages overtime for the Perez’s in the squad completely hamstrung our last two windows, in addition to the impact of the pandemic. Wish more pundits had a backbone. I’m not annoyed at Rodgers the man, but Rodgers the manager completely suck any atmosphere out the stadium, any desire out of the players, and any invention out of the squad. 12

In terms of consistency Rodgers doesn't hold a candle to MO'N. Rodgers is probably the most fortunate of City managers - inheriting and gradually demotivating what was a fine squad. On the basis of that Cup run, he possibly deserves some kudos, but it wasn't a squad he put together. The luck of the Irish is his claim to fame. And when he did finally put his own stamp on things and get HIS squad together, we all know what happened next… 2

Popular Post Ricey Posted 3 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 3 April 2023 What really frustrates me about all this is that any success he had here is now totally overshadowed by the mess he's left us in. We are in a by far worse position now than when he came in, which isn't all his fault, but a large proportion of it is. He's let his own ego and stubbornness (as well as ineptitude) destroy a foundation that could have solidified us as a consistent top 7/8 club. What frustrates me even more is that this has been staring the club in the face for 18 months. It was plainly obvious that his time was up at the end of last season, but yet again the club have decided to stick with a manager off the back of a couple of wins at the end of the season in dead rubbers. The board, and Jon Rudkin in particular, should be held accountable for this mess. The scary thing is that they really believed that Rodgers was going to be the man to take us forward for the next few years and therefore there is no succession plan or long-term thinking from this point. No doubt we'll hire someone just because they have some Premier League experience and are available. 15 2

Rodgers’ departure by mutual agreement is only a surprise in the timing, with 10 games remaining to save the club from relegation to the Championship. Supporters have been demanding change for over 18 months, and it is probably the Europa League defeat by struggling Legia Warsaw in Sept 2021 that can now be regarded as the turning point. Leicester did try to give Rodgers time to turn the situation around. Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, has come under scrutiny for his delay in taking action, but the truth is that he still had faith in Rodgers. He felt the risk in making a change was too great and could have a detrimental effect. That faith finally disappeared after Leicester’s late defeat at Crystal Palace, and Rodgers was summoned for talks before a recovery session on Sunday. Leicester City were on the ropes in the Europa League after a feeble defeat to Legia Warsaw in 2021 Credit: Reuters/Kacper Pempel The last 12 months or so have been excruciating. Rodgers had frequently spoken of his desire for a “healthy shake-up” of the squad, but funds were limited in the summer amid fears over Financial Fair Play breaches. Leicester also adopted the stance that Rodgers had been generously backed in the summer of 2021. They could not risk signing two or three more players last year who turn out to be bad buys, while also adding to an already bloated squad. Though Leicester signed Wout Faes for £15m, after the sale of Wesley Fofana to Chelsea, Rodgers’ mood was dark on deadline day. After the home defeat by Manchester United his comments over a lack of backing angered the hierarchy. They argued that Rodgers should be doing better with the team he had available. In their view, it was not a set of players that should be anywhere near the bottom of the table, and that remains the view now. It was a tricky position for Rodgers to be in: he had made it quite clear that he wanted new signings but had to rely on players that he did not rate. Caglar Soyuncu and Boubakary Soumare were two players he did not want in his squad. The departure of Kasper Schmeichel to Nice left Rodgers with Wales international goalkeeper Danny Ward, who is not good enough at this level. Rodgers was backed in January with the funds generated from Fofana’s sale, but despite an initial uplift in form Leicester have gone seven games without a win. Rodgers has appeared frequently downbeat, and negative in interviews. Team selection has been unpredictable. Training sessions are alleged to have been repetitive and boring with some players. Rodgers' decision to give the squad last week off, in the first week of the international break, was a huge surprise to many senior officials at the club, considering the perilous position. Many supporters have always felt convinced that Rodgers was only using Leicester as a stepping stone to a bigger club. There has never seemed any real affection between him and the fanbase, despite the exhilarating football in his first two full seasons. This season, Rodgers has looked as if he wanted putting out of his misery. There is a reasonable argument that most managers have a life-span of three years until players need a new voice and direction. To complete four years at this level, as I wrote in February, is an achievement that cannot be overestimated. He has been isolated at times, and the lone voice. Srivaddhanaprabha writes a column in the programme but chief executive Susan Whelan and director of football Jon Rudkin have not spoken with the English press since Claudio Ranieri’s unveiling in July 2015. There will be many pundits and neutrals who repeat the old tropes of ‘be careful for what you wish for’ and ‘it’s only Leicester, what do they expect’? These should be ignored, for the people who actually pay the money to watch games have been frustrated for months, or longer. Perhaps Rodgers should have gone earlier, for it has to be remembered that those first two and a half years were special. He did not deserve the situation to become so toxic. He will return, most probably in the Premier League, and the chance to recharge will be good for him. Now the change has come and Leicester are locked in a 10-game shootout for survival. The prospect of Championship football does not bear thinking about. ...so now he shares his insight!!! Where was the articles on the poor performances and the total disconnect from the fanbase for four years. The press has failed to hold him to account for all this time, keep your insight to yourself, you are just stating the obvious, no one was asking for a hatcht job, but for once to do your job. 3

BUT THE LAST 18 MONTHS HAVE BEEN RAPID DECLINE, AND SURPRISED THE CLUB hAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH STYLE OF PLAY, RESULTS AND HIS TRANSFER BUSINESS, AND ALIENATION OF PLAYERS, NO OTHER CLUB WOULD OF ALLOWED THIS. I have to say this is quite true. I was one of the earlier ones that came on here and talked about Rodgers’ problems which were long term and we were on a constant decline, but I was laughed at because the results were still respectable. But those results came on the back of individual brilliance rather than sustainable tactics, and as you say this has been going on for far too long. Probably longer than 18 months. The writing was on the wall from the first choke we had in 2020 - that shows you how good we could have been if not for Rodgers’ negative tactics and negative mentality. He was here at the right time when, after Puel had done the dirty work to give us an additional dimension of possession football (mind you Puel never said he wanted to get rid of our counter attacking brilliance), he was able to carry that change without the resistance Puel had, while he still had the team’s counter attacking aura that scared opponents. That meant his lone striker slow build up football worked for a while as teams were still sitting back in fear of Vardy and Albrighton’s long passes. Then there was to be that penny dropping moment when Norwich found us out in December 2019. They pressed high in spite of the Vardy fear factor. We were dominating teams earlier but this game we could not get out of our own half for long periods. Opponents then slowly realised this ready made recipe to beat us and eventually despite playing so well earlier in the season, as you may recall, though with Covid unfairly affecting us, we choked in the end. We were really struggling towards the end of that season when we could only occasionally get results due to individual brilliance of some of our players. But if they get marked out or had a bad game, we could not find a way to win. Our tactics and team selection were not working but Rodgers could not see. I complained though not many people listened to me. Nonetheless, I stuck with Rodgers too because he was a good talker and I hoped he would change. He started to tinker with tactics and at one point I thought he saw the light with that break through season for Nacho when he played in a two striker system and flourished - we all knew what happened, he became our season’s top scorer despite only starting games in the last third of the season. In short he gave me hope, but his stubbornness showed and he went back to his old defensive tactics and persisted with players who he shouldn’t have. I gave him time. A lot of time hoping he would see. He dropped Maddison (and how good that turned out to be for Maddison), but he never dropped Ndidi (years in waiting) and he never saw the talent in Nacho or Mendy (but they are important pieces to the puzzle). Despite proving ineffective, he still chooses a lone striker system that does not work. Admittedly, despite my unhappiness at Rodgers, I only really jumped into the Rodgers out bandwagon this season. I gave him time. But sacking him only now gave him too much time to cause us permanent damage.

It started going wrong about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through last season, poor team choices, inability to change tactics, especially when he was gifted through injury a 2 strikers work well lifeline that he stupidly ignored, zero motivation, not sorting out the transfers in and out mess and insane substitutions, so 12/18 months is fair, ignoring the fa cup of course. I would have changed manager at least a year ago, so i don`t have any faith in Rogers so don`t declare war because i chose a slightly different time frame to you. Edited 3 April 2023 by steveb

I think the story about Brendan giving the team the week off last week is really damning actually. Genuinely believe Top in particular thought Brendan had still got this, but i think the rotting attitude we have seen from him took a massive downturn after the Chelsea game. Know there were Internationals away, but there were players like Barnes, Tete, Kristiansen, Iversen, Riccy, Soumare etc who should have been training rather than trying to sort out their own fitness plans. I imagine the really poor demeanour of the team at Palace came off the back of some home truths being talked about around this. Although i would have rather he had gone much earlier in the season, but knowing what we know now and the fact he had recently completely lost his way, i'm surprised they didn't do it after the Chelsea game. The last 15 minutes of that was dross where it was clear he and completely lost the team and the crowd. In the last few minutes you could clearly hear one of his claps from the other end of the ground. 2

mozartfox Posted 3 April 2023 Posted 3 April 2023 Just hope we get someone in soon but not any old muppet. If the surviving coaches are picking the Team, what were they doing previously? Either way - if we get out of this mess and stay up or do drop into the Championship, the Club needs a root and branch clear out of gigantic proportions. This is not going to a quick fix. The Forestry Commission Chain-saw Crew needs a confirm booking made for the day the this season ends.
Foxxed Posted 3 April 2023 Posted 3 April 2023 The idea that we sacked him because he fulfilled the criteria of relegation zone plus no cups interests me. Did we wait for that for financial reasons? Or just out of stupid loyalty? I hope it was the former, since the latter indicates negligence.
