Best of luck to him but I never really took to him and he became symbolic of what we became for me - a nothingness of a player.

We’ve had some absolutely honking individual performances over the last couple of years & his performance at Palace last season is right up there with the worst of them.

Ha I suppose so!

But my understanding is that we had bids for Tielemans, Soyuncu and Praet at various times, but didn't sell as they were under what we paid for those players. So 2 of those 3 ended up going for free instead, which is even worse. In the past the club has somehow ended up engineering good fees for players like Musa, etc. But why didn't we take money earlier for players like Soumare? He's just taking up wages and a squad place.

yeah totally  agree the whole Sourmare on is odd.

Maybe, was in the FA cup winning team so personally I will remember him reasonably fondly in years to come. But still a good move where both clubs should be happy.

I too think of him as cup winner. Wonder if the serious eye socket injury affected long term confidence

The fact players like Castagne, Tielemans and Ndidi have gone to Fulham, Villa and Forest respectively shows the drop off from where they were two-three years ago. All of them were comfortably at least UEL standard then.

Used to like him but shocking attitude since we got relegated. Good move for all.

There's literally zero evidence of this. He's integrated with the squad, spent time on the bench if needed, and kept himself fit. He's wanted a move to the Premier League because he's a player who really should be playing at that standard.

It feels like sunk cost fallacy. We've already spent £24M on the player, so if we keep paying his wages, he will surely get better, right!?

50% of transfers go wrong. If it doesn't work out, move onto the next one. We could have loaned him out, loaned another player in and ended up 3 points better off, which would have kept us in the Premier League. At least with this departure, it's recognising it's time to get some money back, which can help the club move forwards.

If we can keep JJ and RIcky P fit (big if) then he’s no loss at all.

Good move for Fulham as he is PL quality at his best, but good move for us as we have more than enough cover (with caveat above).

If it means we can concentrate on other positions and get someone in then the strength of the overall squad actually increases with him gone.

And shows our drop off as a club that these clubs have surpassed us despite being lightyears behind us not so long ago

My God, some of the anger and bitterness in some people over somebody who is remarkably boring personality wise and who acted professionally. Y'all need to calm down before you have strokes before your 60th birthday's.

"A big relief" lol

Must've been awful earning 60 bags a week to sit on your bony arse whilst you threw your toys out of the pram looking for a move to a top club only to end up at Fulham.

Good riddance. He stunk of relegation.

This is the first time I can remember the club taking a fairly sizable % loss on a player, as we signed him for 21.5M.

We need to do it more often though, if players don't work out, having them sit around achieves nothing.

Castagne was decent enough for us, but time to go and time for a fresh squad and ideas.

We got Timmy for less than 19m.

That's very subjective as well though. He gave away the penalty vs Ev and was at fault vs Leeds, those games took us down.

There's a very good chance that with a fit Ricardo or JJ playing there, we could have survived. He was third choice RB in a team that got relegated.

I think all 3 could comfortably have gotten moves abroad to UEL or even CL teams. But I'd guess either price or wages has restricted that

Always thought he was more of a wing back than a full back. Which explained his poor offside discipline and a lot of his defensive frailties. No great loss, but I don't hate the guy.

Apparently he hated Rodgers and I always thought the fact he was voted players player of the season was some sort of hidden message.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Will be interesting in like 10/20 years when all the stories from last year start coming out. For all we know he was leading the charge against Rodgers in the dressing room and in the end turned out he was correct - in which case I don't begrudge him leaving. Either way, best for everyone.

Oh, it does.

But also that we could regroup just as quickly with smart business and good management.

We've shown some of the best transfer acumen in this window for five years and have a manager with a plan to finally give us an identity back; it's just infuriating that it took a relegation and teams like Forest crowing about being uncharacteristically better than us for two seasons to make it happen.

Pragmatic head says this hopefully is the first of a few dominoes. If we can get Wilf and Ward gone  then I'm happy.

Don't see Daka or Soumare going, which is a shame but hopefully they'll play if they're still around.
