I like him but he's 31.5 now,

End of 24/25  - 32.5

End of 25/26 - 33.5

End of 26/27 - 34.5

 

If by 25/26 he's just a bit part player than we'd rather not play we have another Bertrand-esque situation.

 

If it was a straight up binary choice of 3 years or no deal I think I'd opt for the latter.

Reid is up there with one of my least favourite players left.

 

He has zero redeeming qualities, I can put too much emphasis on athleticism but I think that my late Nan genuinely has a better kicking technique than Reid.

 

Zero strength, walks around rather than has the ability to press and when the pressure was on, like the rest, he was heinous and some of his “misses” don’t get enough criticism on here IMO.

Fair to say I've deconstructed his game a fair bit. His strength. His token press. Being (at best) one step off the pace chasing shadows (exactly as an amateur would were they thrown in at the deep end)....and as you highlight, his kicking technique. He can't kick a ball properly. Let that sink in. 

 

But, this time, I'm gonna highlight the thing that he's sometimes praised for. That one touch flick around a corner..

 

And I can take an educated guess why he does it. Because any parks player would do it if they were plonked into professional football. He does it because he has to do it. He hasn't the technique to control quickly enough nor the strength to hold off his man. Basically it's a process of 'get rid of it'... but in a way that doesn't look like he's just getting rid of it..

This is my biggest issue with him.

 

He makes himself look busy whilst actually doing more harm than good.

 

He would benefit from standing off, or just still in the space for if/when possession does turn over.

Reid was anonymous yesterday - which is the most positive thing you could say about his performance. It is players like him, Faes, Miserable Mavididi and Thomas that dampen any optimism emerging atm.

He's been played as a striker, which he can't do. I would've thought Cullen, the guy we've spent a few million to get here, was brought for that role, whilst Bobby was used behind the striker. He scored a few goals from that position last season.

Pretty much the only unbiased opinion of his game yesterday that I’ve seen.

 

If braybrooke had made that pass out to Mavididi there’d be pages and pages of people saying how amazing he is.

I’m not defending him though- his contribution for an experienced pro over the last 2 seasons has been nowhere near good enough.

Playing BDCR as a false 9 is a war crime only seen when we tried using Okazaki as a loan striker. As effective and loved as Okazaki was, playing as a loan striker was never going to work, just like playing BDCR as a false 9 won't.

He had one freak season when Lee Johnson pushed him further forward. Still more of a 10 than a 9 though. Scored 19 if I remember rightly. 

 

Apart from that I don't think  he's ever hit double figures in a season throughout his whole career.
