And yet I'm sure they had more shots on target than us that game.

In fact they did as I just looked. 4 shots on target to our 1.

Having more shots on target doesn't equate to them having a go, we had more attempts overall, more possession, more corners, and a higher xG. Delap scored a long range deflected effort for them. They played well and set up perfectly to beat us but they didn't come to be open and attack, they didnt need to after going ahead.

Going to have to go against the grain here and say I love the champions league and its always been the best tournament to watch enjoyment wise for me. Not sold on the new format however but I imagine after a while it'll just be the norm

Yeah brother the quarters onwards of the Champions League over the past few years has been consistently fantastic by every possible metric, they've been Susan. New opening format is shit because it wipes away that slight bit of jeopardy which was about only thing that made the previous group stages half interesting, but I'm sure the knockouts will once again be class.

That said, looking forward to the weird play-off round between those 16 sides in the middle, those should be nice and chaotic

Can't see Man City being stripped of all their silver wear - far too complicated and the legal action would take years to resolve.

It’s not the quality of the competition that is the issue for me. It’s the gradual erosion of any chance that 90% of the clubs will be able to compete.

We’ve already got: European coefficients, seedings, tried dropping the failed CL sides into the Europa, UEFA FFP and  now this group format.

It’s Super League by stealth and they’re just throwing a bone to the likes of Leicester and Brighton when they really don’t want us in the competition

I agree. Not at all bothered about the Champions League. I paid far more attention to the Championship games last night.

I used to always know Tuesday and wednesday were champs league games with the Thursday europa ones. It doesn't even register in my aging brain anymore, I don't give a flying fook.

So the Villa captain has done an interview stating that Emery will go down as one of the all time Villa greats.

I get that he’s transformed the club and they are playing well.. but talk about setting your standards low.. he’s not won a piece of silverware yet!  Let him win something.. even a cup competition and then say he’s an all time great..

To be fair any Villa fan in their 20's or 30's this is likely the glory years for them. Same for Forest

Still feel's weird that we'd be in a stat like this:-

Unai Emery's side have become only the third club after Leicester and Malaga to win their first three games in the Champions League without conceding.

I was about to say that stat isn't true as they've been in it before twice, and won the damn thing, but I think it's funnier to just roll with it and pretend that, a bit like with the Prem, European Football started in 1992. :fishing:

Interesting take the Villa thing.

Brian Little between 1995-1997 got them 4th, 5th, League Cup Winnwrs and FA Cup Runners Up

Ron Atkinson 2nd and Leagje Cup winners too.

Better achievements but probably not viewed as well as Emery. They underachieved in the Conference League last season

I think it’s more the process from where they were when he joined there .

Clubs 'want Premier League reduced to 18 teams' as players threaten to strike
The number of fixtures being played by top-flight clubs has become a hot topic of debate - although it is not thought Leicester City would be in favour of such a move

Some Premier League clubs are in favour of cutting the top-flight down to 18 teams amid ongoing concerns over fixture congestion, it has been claimed. Players and managers have been vocal about the relentless schedule, with matches piling up for those at the highest level.

Last month, Manchester City's Rodri hinted at the possibility of a players' strike due to the intense demands placed on them. Not long after, Rodri sustained a knee injury that ended his season, leading to speculation that his packed calendar may have played a role.

With the current setup, Premier League sides play 38 league games, and success in domestic cups can add up to 12 more fixtures. UEFA's recent expansion of European competitions could see the winners playing up to 17 matches in those tournaments alone.

When international duties and additional events like the Community Shield and the revamped Club World Cup are factored in, the strain on players becomes evident.

Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman and football pundit, has told the Daily Mail that "initiatives like reducing the Premier League to 18 teams is something certain clubs would like".

However, the 57-year-old believes that solution would not be supported by teams - like Leicester City - who are in danger of relegation and instead suggests clubs manage players' playing time better to help alleviate the burden.

He explained in his latest Mail column: "The common-sense solution is for their employers to manage resources better rather than seek outside help. Chelsea have left Cole Palmer out of their Europa Conference squad, a self-regulating way of prioritising that means no competition should have to die on the vine."

He added: "We're at a stage where leading players and their unions are flexing their muscles. The more they earn, the freer they feel to tell you what they don't like. However, you can imagine the silence if it were suggested there might be economic concessions on their part to achieve the outcome of fewer matches."

However, if enough top players decide to take strike action as a group, football chiefs may be forced to appease them.

"I think we are close to that (striking). I think if you ask any player he will say the same," Rodri explained last month. "It is not the opinion of Rodri or whatever. I think it's the general opinion of the players. And if it keeps this way, there will be a moment where we have no other option. I really think, but let's see."

This is fine as long as there are two Disgusting Six teams that go down so that 3 can come up from the Championship. They're more than happy to gobble up extra European games.

Utter disgrace when as you say happy for extra European games plus lucrative nonsense friendlies and talk about playing League games abroad.

Probably just the shitty 6 in favour of this isn't it.

I can totally get where the players are coming from, but ultimately the problem is their own clubs playing ridiculous meaningless games in foreign countries for ££££ and FIFA and Uefa making the CL and club world longer.

Same old bullshit.
