I was never impressed by him tbh. Aside from his passing ability which was class, I didn’t think he was anything special and made too many mistakes.

No better than our own youth products thanks

I rate Nelson a lot higher than Doyle and with a far higher ceiling in the game

I liked Doyle his passing ability was tremendous. He will Ping them balls to Abdul all game long and Marti will like that!

We're linked because he was with us on loan, that's it.

The moment it was said that Man City wanted to sell him, the articles all went straight to Norwich, Coventry and Leicester. Lazy journalism.

Hw would be okay but I would be concerned about his lack of progression. Went to Sunderland on loan as a 17yo, Coventry as a 18yo, Leicester as a 19yo, Norwich as a 20yo. You would have thought he was destined for a top half PL team if he was at Sunderland on loan as a 17yo but he'll be 22 in October and he's still knocking around the same level.

Nice feet but not the quickest or most dominant for a centre half, I would be concerned he hasn't kicked on from where he was at 17/18. I used to have high hopes for Chilwell but was glad to sell him in the end as he was the same player at 24 as he was at 19 and never developed, Doyle could do the same.

Good championship player but don't see him becoming a consistent PL player. I'd take him on a free if we needed to strengthen that area, but we don't...

On loan as a squad member, maybe. If kristiansen goes we might need cover for that side. Or maybe if we lose 1-2 more of the bigger wage CBs. But our money is precious right now and I’d be dismayed if we spent what little we have in signing him permanently…

I thought he was decent, albeit that was Championship level. Don't remember thinking he was really slow tbh but seems to be the consensus so fair enough. He was always LB when he's really a CB I think. Don't think we necessarily need him though really unless VK or/and JJ leave

Amazed by some of the responses considering when he was here this forum seemed to love him.

Never understood it. He was hopeless imo

He’s not really a cb and not really a left back.  I’d imagine he needs to be part of a back 3 to flourish. Not what we need. Great passing range though

Guess I'm in the minority but I liked him, him and Nelson could be a great CB pairing IMO.

We've yet to see Nelson even appear competent as a second CB, the idea of throwing him in as the more "experienced" CB pairing is a great example of how our fanbase overrates players, who haven't even played.

Some did the same with Braybrooke a few years back, claiming he should've been replacing Ndidi/Tielemans....And then the guy couldn't break into Dundee's side.

Nelson by all accounts did ok at a relegation battling Oxford, whilst Alves didn't really do anything of note at relegated Cardiff. Yet it's these type of profiles who are supposed to be pushing out Faes and Vestergaard, who proved 2 years ago, that this level was too easy for them?

Within our current squad, Doyle would be 5th choice CB and 4th choice LB. Getting rid of Vestergaard/Faes for him, immediately reduces our chances of Promotion.

With Thomas, Kristiansen, Nelson, Okolie, all 24 or under, Brownhill on a 4 year contract at £100k a week would represent far better business than £8-10 million + Wages for Doyle. (And I don't think we should be signing Brownhill on those terms)

If we ARE going for a left sided CB, I would much rather hijack Rangers' bid for this guy. Exactly the same type of profile but younger, stronger, bigger, faster and probably better on the ball but would cost half as much.

Don’t get quite the calls around him having no pace. As a left back he’s not quick enough but he is definitely not slow and he would definitely compliment Nelson as a centre back partner (the 2 are good friends from his time here). Nelson/Okoli/Doyle to be the main 3 CB’s moving forwards would give us a good combination of height, athleticism and technical ability. I would definitely have him if we can find the right deal.
