So if we sold Fatawu for 30m, used the money to buy James, a new winger, CF and fullbacks what would people think?

But he cost about 17m so 13m isn’t going to replace him, buy James and cf and 2 fullbacks

I thought it was 14m, minus one years amortisation for last year so a book value of around 11.2m

I think we have accepted we are shopping in the bargain bin.

If we're just going to do what we did in 2024 which is make profit on Fatawu and maybe James like we did Dewsbury Hall, then use that money to buy the equivalent of Skipp and Michael Golding, then i would rather we hold onto Fatawu and James.

If we do sell Fatawu and James we need to buy players with talent on the cheap that we can sell if they dont work out. It's probably better to leave the pathway open for the academy lads than buy more duds.

Am I misreading this or are you already speaking about selling a player that we don't own?

We’ll sign him at the option price in January. But purely to give us the flexibility to bank a quick profit in the summer without any trouble. Get it done properly and you generate another 10 million on the balance sheet in this PSR period…is probably what they are thinking

Wrote my post after reading this so was going off that as a possibility.

Will we actually be able to secure him ? I’m not confident. We have the buy option but surely another club can just match it and offer him a contract and then it’s his decision.

Better clubs than us will be after him I’m sure

I think a couple of months ago it would have been much easier. Him tearing it up and bringing a bit of attention to himself may have made it a bit harder. Either way I think he does like it here and I think even we get this done. We've got first refusal at a set price, his wage demands won't be mental.

Don't get your hopes up. I remember Lookman. I can see him finishing the loan and then being sold to a lower Prem club.

I think we have no chance.

More likely to sign for someone in this league than stay here:brendan:

Not sure i see parallels with Lookman.  Whilst he was ok for us, Barnes was still the golden boy and we didn't get relegated because we didn't score enough goals. Im not convinced anyone could see the trajectory Lookman was on whilst he was here, and he likely wouldn't have kicked on that way in a toxic relegated threatened side. I always got the impression that Brendan didn't really rate him and although he seemed like a very shy character, never gave the impression he gave 2 f4ck5 about being here.

James is different. He's very young and is the only (current) player we have that can play the role the way he does. He's scoring regularly and seems to be genuinely like the club. We need James in our team. I've also been told by someone (friend of a friend sort) that its a case of just getting the paperwork sorted and James will sign.

BUT, i don't think i fully believe anything is going to happen. If you are the player, you surely have to think there is no advantage signing anything right now, regardless how you feel about the club and your performances. No matter what (barring a bizarre recall that i don't see happening), he will be here until the end of the year. So as long as he does his bit (improves, performs well, scores goals etc), then he is in a better negotiating position for his career in the summer. And although tough, Wales could find themselves at the World Cup in the summer, opening up more opportunities for him.

Be interesting to see if there is a plan, or that was most likely Marti deflecting. The plan can also be to just wait until the Summer!

Rumour has it that he might be off to Newcastle......but maybe its just a rumour???

For us, it'll be devastating as he's the push in the middle. But for him, it'll be a great move if true.

If JJ is not contractually obligated to sign for us if we pay the fee then he'd be mental to sign up to this shitshow and basket case of a club.

Far too good for us.

Newcastle or Everton, Moyes does great with  youngsters bringing them through.

JJ would be crazy to sign for us permanently, we really aren't going into achieve anything. We'll just be a mid table championship club and if by a miracle get promoted... we're heading straight back down.

Does not seem the sort who wants to sit on a shiny bench, so if he were to go somewhere else, you would surely expect it to be somewhere where he could be a starter?

He's good but nowhere near Newcastle level, luckily to make the bench.

Career suicide.

I'm not sure he'll be in a rush to go somewhere to sit on the bench after his Rennes experience.
