Agree with you.

 

But the suspicion with this club is that he will be a shoe in and we will 'have' to play experienced heads in other areas as the team is too inexperienced.

 

It seems to be a continual theme for the club. Experienced players are allowed to fail over and over again, our own young players are not afforded the same opprtunties.

 

A young player comes in from a large club and they get 30 appearances.

Pretty much the same when we're last in league one, we didn't know what to expect from Lloyd Dyer, Max Gradel or even Tom Cleverley.

Mukasa was probably shocked by the sheer lack of professionalism and wanted out after a few weeks. Who could blame him

I think it is very difficult to assess the attitude of loanees over the last couple seasons. He started very well from what I recall and imo got sucked into the toxic cesspit our club had become. Hard to imagine anyone thriving at a club that was imploding at pace.

I don't class those as 'youth' any more.

 

Stol - 25 years and 95 senior apps.

Thomas - 25 years and 180 senior apps.

Nelson - 22 years and 83 senior apps.

That's interesting to hear. For the way the gaffer plays, you'd want someone with these characteristics:

 

- Good on the ball so they can get involved in the build-up as they will often join the attack as we dominate the ball. Like JJ under Enzo. 

- Be an attacking outlet that can overlap or underlap a winger to join the attack, think of Kerkez when he was at Bournemouth.

- Be fast so that they can help out when we lose the ball on transition, like Djed Spence at the World Cup. 

 

My understanding was that he was one of those "not quite good enough to be a winger so converted to full back" types, so hearing he's good defensively is a real bonus. If you think of Luke Thomas, I don't think he's good at any of the three above sadly.

I'm surprised at some negativity, we've got 50/60 games to play this season and we only had one left footed full back, I imagine the playing time will be shared with Luke Thomas, I think it's a good signing personally! He's got a little bit of experience playing mens football as well, which is good.
