Doesn’t matter what the style of play or formation is, whether you either have 70% possession with 24 shots or less of both, you’ve got to have players that can put the ball in the back of the net. We don’t have a player that looks like they can break 8-10 goals this season let alone the 15-20 needed to get out of this league.

MKD are another poor side, if they had a half decent striker we’d have lost despite our overwhelming stats.

 

We seem to have some better players, and have improved our mentality significantly since last season, it’s not all negative anymore.

 

The style of play still seems like our weakness, but I’m giving RM 10 games after the end of the window before I pass judgement on whether he’s the answer. 

We do however, need to grind out some points in those 11 games otherwise promotion will be beyond us

Decent enough performance aside from doing everything but score, today was how I expected the Notts and Burton games to look and today would have been more acceptable had we not looked shite in both of those.

 

Braybrooke clearly the best player on the pitch, Page and Joseph very good as well. Watson was crap, shouldn't have started and how he stayed on as long as he did is wild, Alves had more impact than him in the time he was on. Shout out to Burns and Cullen for being proper ****ing crap.

 

I like the look of Bristric, looks like his link up play has already improved, runs for everything and presses well, just need to see how he is when decent chances fall to him.

 

If Reid doesn't miss the easiest chance he'll have all season, we win that by some distance, we really need to bag early in games to force teams out for longer.

I wonder if we’ll regret not subbing Chaplin straight away. The period between him getting injured and being subbed is where we seemed to lose that initial momentum and it became end to end for a while. Hindsight is great but it seemed like playing with ten men at times.

Finished with the better front three, infinitely more effective and functional than the starting three.

Braybrooke, Page, Joseph and briefly Alves showing they are ready and worthy of places.

It was by far our best league performance of the season. We had more than enough chances to win that. Am I daft for seeing some encouraging signs? Maybe my expectations have been worn down so much. 

 

Don't twist my words on this. I am by no means happy with a draw. I just think you're lying to yourself if you didn't think that performance was better.

Its been like it for years, but why dont our fullbacks overlap, ever? Its

literally will create space for the winger to cut inside or allow for a the fullback to provide a cutbacks into the box. The first time we did it today Cullen should have scored a tap in

I think on the balance of play we win that probably 8 times out of 10. But it's another one of our old foes - largely dominant but don't actually convert it to a win. It reminded me of the Watford game last season away, and a little bit like the Stoke one as well.

 

The problem is you can't rely on us to not shit ourselves in about 40% of our games and implode, so we really need to be winning the ones we actually play OK in.

 

Not enough clear cut actually created for all of our territory. Bob's miss was bad but beyond that there really wasn't much that clearcut.

 

The midfield is much better without Skipp anywhere near it. Page only really breaking in now is a huge fumble from us.

 

0 wins from 3 though is absolutely shocking. We've played two promoted sides and Burton. This is very much reminiscent of a manager who managed 1 win in 7 in the league with Rangers. Funny that.

A much, much better performance but still not a 90 minutes we should be happy with and to be honest that’s down to Russell not the players. Chaplin’s injury saved his poor starting tactic.

 

We look so much better with Bristric on the pitch as the focal point. His movement is good, he occupies defenders but whether his positioning in the box, or his finishing is enough to be our striker for the year I still have no idea. 

 

To the same point, BDCR is a much better player as the 10, but he was missing the runs in behind. 

 

Style of play wise, we were much faster, willing to be more direct, and the off the ball movement was much improved. There were patches when it slowed down, but with a striker pulling defenders away, and Souttar keeping his eyes up, we managed to break through a couple of times more.

 

Burns & Watson generally offered nothing on the wings, and when we’re up against 5 defenders and we’ve got no goal threat in the middle, we cannot afford them to perform like that. The game was clearly calling out for changes on the wings earlier, Alves should’ve been brought on at the same time as Howell. Both of them were so much brighter. That’s firmly on Russell.

 

Stol had a big moment but was fine otherwise, didn’t have much to do. Thomas also had a moment (or two or three) but it looks like CB suits him much more. McFarlane looks a better LB by a mile.

 

JJ and Page very good, but MOTM to Sammy Braybrooke. Absolutely outstanding, a real shame he hit the woodwork on that effort as he absolutely deserved that goal. 

 

I’m sure Russell will say that that’s as close to what he’s wanting as we’ve seen all year, but he needs to more proactive on subs, and he should be fighting tooth and nail for another striker. We can’t go in with a false nine again.
