I'd be surprised if there was anything specific in your contract that stated where you had to work in the event of working from home, but also I would have thought when you started working from home theyd stipulate you also be available to come to the office at times.

I hope things work out for you. I'm just curious how this came about? Did you not consult them before moving? I can't imagine moving to another country without first consulting my employee, should I intend to carry on working there. And if you did, surely the issue would have come up during that discussion? If you did speak to them, then that's possibly you saviour, if you didn't and just decided to up sticks I'm not sure you have a leg to stand on.

Yes you're right, there is nothing in my contract stipulating where I need to work from, I'm guessing they didn't think it necessary! We've been told many times that we wouldn't need to go back to the office , but that's changed recently.

And no, I didn't let them know, but I had an email from the CEO last December saying that as far as he is concerned we can work from anywhere. So I took it literally

Be interesting to see how this unfolds  as the pandemic has put a lot of people in this situation. I know you may have moved there before but cant remember?

A colleague of mine wanted to move to portugal and asked our office if she could WFH in portugal but in north american time zone (as we are in Canada). We have nothing in our contracts to say we have to be here but then again we were hired to work in office and thats where they control it for us. We were hired of course before the pandemic.  Now, given the situation we are all currently WFH but our company has stated if you WFH in another country you can only do so once for a maximum of 3 months.

We can WFH from anywhere within the country though for as long as we want until they call us back to the office (if they do).

I would guess that the company would be allowed to let you go as you didnt inform them but the CEOs email might help. Pure speculation. Lol hope you win though!

It's worth checking rescue places, like redgate farm near Markfield for example. I got a kitten a few years back that had been rescued. He was only a few weeks old. I paid nothing but the vet fees to have his balls chopped off.

I've never actually known anyone charge for a standard British shorthair cat, or certainly no more than a small fee. You're not buying a pedigree dog.

Example, these are still young, doesn't look like they'll cost you a penny

There's also plenty of kittens here

Good luck with the Cat hunting today and you will probably find they pick you. They cost what they cost and remember it will be for a whole lifetime.

When's the best time to re-mortgage? 3 months before? 6 months?

IMO, never re-mortgage unless you're in serious financial trouble. It'll always end up costing you more in the long run and will damage your credit rating.

We did it and it was one of the worst decisions we ever made.

But the 2-year fixed rate ends in April for me and then it goes on to a ridiculously high interest rate and I'm paying a whole lot more?

Then I guess you do what Raj has suggested and consult a financial expert.

Your suggesting a re-mortgage to get a more agreeable deal and in that situation, it might work for you,

Our circumstances were a bit different as we had hocked ourselves into quite bad debts. 8 years ago we re-mortgaged to clear them but the additional interest over the long term was more expensive. In the end we had to apply for an IVA. That worked as we got the creditors off our backs and were able to manage more reasonable repayment terms as well as binning off some of them who we didn't owe much to by repaying a nominal sum. The creditors would rather have something rather than nothing.

I suppose it depends on age too. If you are touching 60 then it might not be smart as that will extend your time that your paying obviously.. well past retirement age…

if you are in your 40s or younger, I’d do it…
