Perhaps they should take over the M&S building and turn it into an indoor market going from Gallowtree Gate to Humberstone Gate with eateries upstairs.

Good idea that, emphasise the walk through but work it in to the design so it gets lots of foot traffic going through and around all the stalls.

So joined up thinking isn't really a thing from the off then.

They didn't consider what the area would look like once opened up and seemed oblivious to the architecture until it was all visable at the same time.

I agree the area might be better used but the lack of foresight is unbelievable

Anyone checked who bought lots of property nearby now they've decided to make it a go to place in the city centre, I'm sure nobody would ever do that, and it certainly never happened around the Curve.

I'll suggest it to the Architects. Nice idea.

It was considered by the Architects but their brief was very rigid so the opportunity wasn't on the table.

Couple of the former wellgosh lads are opening a new shop in town, think it’s in the old Harriman furniture shop building

Size closing down already rubs further salt in the wounds of forcing Wellgosh out

Not suprised, they’ve never had a decent offering since the switch

I feel whilst some effort is certainly made to improve facilities and areas of the city by the council, they can be fighting a losing battle. The council don't always get it right but too many of the local populous more than contribute to areas degenerating.

Perhaps a small but indicative example, are the revamps of some local parks tennis courts.

In conjunction with the Lawn Tennis Association, several courts have been revamped and a very good job they have made of them too. We played on one of the newly completed courts two weeks ago and they are excellent, though litter was already appearing.

We revisited the same court yesterday.

Already the fence has been vandalised in two places and one of the nets all but ruined. A group of lads just sat in a group on the edge of one court just looking at their phones, despite having the whole park to choose from. Despite notices saying the facilities were for tennis only, two different groups were playing football. Then some young girls arrived and were roller blading on one courts.

During our game of tennis, young lads would just walk across our court as though we weren't there!

Then there was the litter. Far more this week even though the courts are surrounded by half full or even empty bins.

Moan over but it is depressing.

Walked from Vaughn Way up Churchgate towards train station yesterday.
Was like walking through a foreign city, also the amount of fast food delivery cyclists bezzing past people constantly it won't be long before some gets seriously injured.

There used to be a shop in that area, sold comics, models, books and they were essentially kicked out because it was no longer in keeping with the area, still remember talking to the shop owner about it.

I'd love it if Deliveroo, Just Eat, UberEats et al were banned tbh.

Hordes of people having slop delivered to their doorstep isn't what this nation of fatsos needs.

As a postie, I'm dreading the day our upper management have a deliveroo delivered and think, "wait a minute... "

Five day old Big Mac doesn't sound too appealing tbh...

Think Nottingham is genuinely more rougher, personally.

No one had graffiti'ed the main Leicester bus station when it was redesigned, did they?..

No, we've just pitifully got by with X amount of assaults / attacks in and around the Haymarket bus station since that was rebuilt, shameful from us really.

Been twice in the last month and both times it was teeming with scruffy chavvy ***** and loads of homeless on most streets.

Genuinely thought it was a shithole.

Agreed. Same people moaning about he cost of living crisis and have no money and have deliveroo 3 times a week! Never used any of them, just cook or go out for food, it isn't difficult

Not everyone wants to either cook or eat out.

Good example of how the city cuts its nose to spite its face.

Walking through New Street today three huge advertisements for the Bradford Literature Festival. Now you can’t even get a direct train to Bradford from New Street.

In twelve years I weekly go through that station I have never see any reference to Leicester Comedy Festival which is a hour train ride away

Derby is good for pubs but that’s about it

The Westfield/Intu/whatever it’s called now has decimated the rest of the city centre

Lot better than Leicester although.   Cathedral Quarter and Ashbourne Road are not too bad.
