Harry - LCFC Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Leicester's reponse to transfer speculation often reminds me of that Iraqi army guy who categorically denied the U.s army was anywhere near Baghdad as the camera was focussing on tanks that were rolling past in the background.... Tbf we haven't denied we're involved. Pearson actually said we were attempting to sign players, just wasn't prepared to speak about who exactly.
Fox92 Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Just because one comes in doesn't mean one has to go. We've seen what injuries can do, leaving a squad thinner. Cambiasso and McArthur (and James and Hammond) are versatile players remember.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Yup. Really happy with this signing and I'd always thought he was almost as good as McCarthy who went to Everton for 11m but was being touted as a potential MUFC target last season for 20m (not sure if Man U money is real though)... Current Manchester United price would be £27 million then.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 You sure? http://www.wigan.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=150067 How come he hasn't had a visit from the race relations board ? Blatant racism.
MPH Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Tbf we haven't denied we're involved. Pearson actually said we were attempting to sign players, just wasn't prepared to speak about who exactly. Haven't confirmed we are interested either....
deep blue Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 we're gonna end up with a ridiculous amount of cms and centre forwards if everything that's a "done deal" is actually a done deal. surely one or two have to leave soon? You're forgetting that we've just had 3 CMs injured simultaneously. We need plenty of backup, especially in the area that is the driving force of the team.
MrSpaM Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Not sure from where but someone on the wigan forum has posted a statement from somebody at their club wishing him luck and stating leicester were very professional with the negotiations. Looks like it's done.
ScouseFox Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 You're forgetting that we've just had 3 CMs injured simultaneously. We need plenty of backup, especially in the area that is the driving force of the team. yes but that is incredibly unlucky and i'm pretty sure won't happen again. what are we going to do when our 2 best central midfielders, james and drinky, the 2 midfielders who have looked incredibly comfortable stepping up as a partnership in our first two games, king and hammond and then our new 7 million pound signing and possibly our new, most decorated argentinean of all time, mcarthur and cambiasso are all fit? 2 of the six won't even be making the bench. if we are to play 3 cms then we're gonna have about 3 strikers not making the bench. someone's not going to be happy (more than one, it seems)

ScouseFox Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Any manager would tell you he would sooner have selection headaches, than nobody to select. yes, obviously. i'm pleased we're looking for strength in depth, just asking who is going to leave, because (if we get them all) 6 central midfielders are not all going to be here all season.
sdb Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 James Mccarthy who is of similar level went for 11m to Everton Similar but better! Can't help but feel we had a bid accepted, then Cambiasso said 'yes', and now we're deciding which to go for. TOugh call - do we go both?

ealingfox Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 We're going to have an absolute embarrassment of riches in the Championship next season. 107 points here we come.
Tom's Pasta Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Yootoob http://youtu.be/zlvE85nUM5k I know it's only a 4 minute YouTube clip, but he looks even better than I realised. Some great moves in there

We need lots of depth. We need quality players pushing each other and fighting for places. We need to be able to adapt to play different formations, to defend leads, to chase games when we fall behind etc. Those things require a bigger squad with a broader mix of attributes than we have today. If players are not happy playing week in week out then they should probably drop down to the lower leagues since pretty much all PL squads rotate and adapt from game to game. Also, and more importantly, NP would simply not sign players who don't fit the squad ethic.
StarFox Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 I'm happy we're signing new players but I do question whether McArthur is good enough to help us bridge the gap between us and other sides in the league. For 6 or 7 million, I hope we are getting more than just a squad player.
lcfcsnow Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 86 starts and 42 sub appearances suggests he hasn't always been a regular for them..
Tielemans63 Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 86 starts and 42 sub appearances suggests he hasn't always been a regular for them.. Give it a rest mate.

We're about to sign a quality player and you're on about relegation. Have we played like relegation candidates in our first two league games - I would say no. Fvck me.
Ric Flair Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 James Mccarthy who is of similar level went for 11m to Everton It was £13 million but he is 3-4 years younger than McArthur.
UpTheTics Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Evening everyone, Pie eater here in peace! Looks like McArthur will soon be a fox. From a Wigan fans perspective first off 6.5-7m (the rumoured fee) is something that simply could not be turned down. I personally thought we wouldn't get over 6m for him so to get a deal like this is a great bit of business for us especially when it looks like we have a replacement (Adam Forshaw) ready to sign for less than half the price. However we are losing one of our best players and you are getting a really good player so don't be alarmed by the high fee. McCarthy always had something more about him IMO but McArthur does the dirty work and runs his nuts off all game. Good on the ball, strong tackler, good passer and likes a long range shot. Considering we got him while he was relatively still a kid to see him develop has been great. He started out of position in the FA Cup Final due to injuries (right wing back) and took to it brilliantly and I'd say was our man of the match against City when we beat them again last season. If their is still a youtube video showing him against Man City then watch it and you'll be impressed. He's a model pro and a top bloke as well, always shows respect to the fans. So overall IMO I think it's great business for both parties. I'm also really glad he's going to a club that should do well this season and stay up other than Burnley who will probably go straight back down. Best of luck for the campaign!

Have we played like relegation candidates in our first two league games - I would say no. Fvck me. Is he quality though? Hardly stood out in the Champ last season, nobody came in for him this summer, he doesn't even get in their side every week, and we're about to pay 7 million for him. And we lost at home to a League 2 side last night, relegation is all but confirmed.

We're going to have to pay a bit over the odds given how urgent it is we bring players in before Monday. Forshaw is a great signing for you and hopefully this all works out well for both clubs. McArthur is the Matty James to Drinkwater for us, he allowed McCarthy to excel for Wigan and he'll do a very good job for us with Drinkwater, James or King. Maybe even Cambiasso.
