James McArthur

-Draw against a team destined for a top 6 finish.

-Give the league favourites a game for 60 minutes and were on top for the first 45 minutes.

-Lose a Cup game to a League 2 team starting a mix of reserves, Youth team and Gary Taylor-fvcking-Fletcher

Verdict= instant relegation, administration and liquidation.

What's people moaning about? We have got : Upson , Albrighton , Hamer , Ulloa , Mcarthur (If he signs) and Cambiasso (if he signs) for £13M!! That's pretty good business in my eyes.

A lot of people will re-evaluate their opinions after reading this. Well pointed out

Last night hit me very hard.

Some fvcker needs to!

20 something years of age? I guess you have surpassed your mental age by quite a long way?

...The fixture list giving us a cruel start, our manager's refusal to stick to a strategy that has served us well in the market and our medical department's inability to remedy the most minor of injuries means we are already in a losing habit, with another superior club at the weekend. It's going to be very difficult to turn it around now. So although not the sole reason, last night was very costly indeed.

Crikey

"It's going to be very difficult to turn it around now"

I know, twice coming from behind to get a pot Vs side who will be just outside Champions League spots, then hold our own until an injury against one of the best sides in European football with some of the world's best olayers

Let's all slit our wrists

Anyone who thought we'd get more than two points from Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, Stoke (A) and Man Utd needs there head looking at

He'll if we've only got the 1pt after Utd then we're only 1pt behind most people's budgeted amount.

Sure we could nick something off Arsenal, or get a win at Stoke or Utd but you're Doom and gloom is just bizarre considering the two games so far and a new forward & cm arriving over the next few days

It's ok though because we'll have Man Utd for company in the championship because if we're basing our premier league performance based on the league cup showing like ealingfox seems to be then they will finish even lower than us this season

Class signing, more excited by this than the signing of Ulloa.  And just what we need.

Really? No guarantee of starting ahead of James and Drinkwater, I'd say he probably won't actually?

what is it with some of you guys.....no signing and we are not able to attract players....a top signing and he isn't good enuf....get a grip....very good piece of work imo....only time will tell but I think he fits the pearson bill to a tee

I still think we may play three men in the centre of midfield before the season is finished. Hence why having both Cambiasso and McArthur is ideal, then we have enough to fill in where possible and cover should one (most probably Hammond) leave at a later date or we have injuries again.

Nigel's mantra has always been at least two players in each position.

As long as then get fit and stay fit that is, he's a very good player will run his heart out for 90 minutes too, great signing.

We must have the hardest fans to please.

This. We could sign Ronaldo and people would complain that we didn't sign Messi instead.

I think we may see DD pushed further forward

Or Andy King, always seen him as a midfielder who could quite happily play behind the front man/men.

Know it's a completely different level but like Stevie G used to do really well in his heyday. Not a bad use of a midfielder in my opinion.

Always liked the idea of a DM, 2 CMs and an AM or a flat 5 across the middle including two recognised wingers like we had under O'Neill.

Twenty-something. Admittedly it's not solely last night. Didn't say he's not good enough to be given a punt (although he won't get in our side if DD or MJ ever get back from injury), but he's certainly not any improvement on what we have already.

Congrats on talking completely out of your arse.

Christ. Reading through some of the posts here you'd think we'd just signed Junior Lewis. And lost our first 10 games without scoring.

I for one believe in Nige and his vision for this team. He wouldn't spend that money on McArthur if he didn't have a clear plan for him - and how he fits in with DD, James and King (and even Hammond) in the squad.

To suggest that last night meant anything in the long run is simply wrong. To suggest that we are somehow in a slump – after coming back from behind twice against Everton and going nose to nose against Chelsea for most of the game – is to exhibit no understanding of football and psychology what so ever. If anything, the squad has grown in confidence following the first two games.

So would I. If fit, I'd expect James/Drinky to start. Or Cambiasso if we ever sign him.

Ealing fox has spent half the summer berating everyone else for being negative and not being a true disciple. 3 bad results and he's lost the plot.

I've only seen us lose the first 2 games and have had my doubts about the quality and quantity of signings so far but I still think we have enough about us to stop up.

Evening everyone, Pie eater here in peace!

Looks like McArthur will soon be a fox. From a Wigan fans perspective first off 6.5-7m (the rumoured fee) is something that simply could not be turned down. I personally thought we wouldn't get over 6m for him so to get a deal like this is a great bit of business for us especially when it looks like we have a replacement (Adam Forshaw) ready to sign for less than half the price.

However we are losing one of our best players and you are getting a really good player so don't be alarmed by the high fee. McCarthy always had something more about him IMO but McArthur does the dirty work and runs his nuts off all game. Good on the ball, strong tackler, good passer and likes a long range shot. Considering we got him while he was relatively still a kid to see him develop has been great. He started out of position in the FA Cup Final due to injuries (right wing back) and took to it brilliantly and I'd say was our man of the match against City when we beat them again last season. If their is still a youtube video showing him against Man City then watch it and you'll be impressed. He's a model pro and a top bloke as well, always shows respect to the fans.

So overall IMO I think it's great business for both parties. I'm also really glad he's going to a club that should do well this season and stay up other than Burnley who will probably go straight back down. Best of luck for the campaign!

Got a mate whose a massive Bees fan, he's gutted their losing Forshaw.. Said he was their best player in a season where he was massively injured.

Looks a solid signing, adding that strength in depth, and will be putting pressure on for a starting place, also did a read somewhere he can play right back?, if so a bit of cover at the back.
