James McArthur

Recommended Posts

As Ian Stringer said last night, we shouldn't assume signing one (if we do) should mean we don't sign the other midfield target. Let's be fair to our current compliment of central midfielders, they are very good, but both McArthur and Cambiasso especially, have top flight experience, both are extremely skilful players and therefore, would only but add extra class to our midfield.

It doesn't also mean the end for anyone necessarily at our club, but, what I would say if both deals come off - Nigel Adkins may get the feeling to go all out to get Dean Hammond. We know he is interested, so, there may yet be a deal in that. Doubt Andy King is going to leave this side of January, if at all, in the near future so yes.

We need a 25 man squad that is good enough to keep us up - both signings fulfil that criteria easily.

Leicester's reponse to transfer speculation often reminds me of that Iraqi army guy who categorically denied the U.s army was anywhere near Baghdad as the camera was focussing on tanks that were rolling past in the background....

McArthur can play Right-back as well. Think we could get both and have 6 until January when Hammond may leave. Then if Cambiasso is on a one year deal, we'll be back to 4 in a year so its not really out of the question.

Politicians claim things all the time. Doesn't mean these claims are always true.

Only a cynic would suggest that a chairman might be quick to publicise a "deal" when they want other clubs to get into a bidding war...

Have posted this in the Cambiasso thread too, but, an Italian reporter with 9k plus followers (including Oliver Kay from The Times) tweeted this not long ago...

Esteban #Cambiasso tomorrow should accept #Leicester's bid and to sign a contract until 2016. #LCFC

Suggests what I said above - both may be coming in. However, if there is varying news on McArthur, perhaps that is Dave Whelan playing a curve ball. We all know how angry Nigel was last night re Transfers, irrespective of the result.

That South American correspondent from Fox Sports with about 100k followers tweeted he had signed- that was about 3 weeks ago.

Moral of the story- don't believe a Twitter sources. Wait for the Official site/FB page/Twitter account to confirm.

Right back as well, interesting and the rest makes sense, building for the future

Oh yes, I agree Finnaldo. Just sharing what is out there, but, I think we still may end up getting both.

Why we would spend so many man hours on someone who isn't interested in joining, is beyond me. He (Cambiasso) could have flatly refused the deal when it was broken initially, but didn't. I still think the more likely outcome is we get both McArthur and Cambiasso and Hammond may go to Reading if they pursue that.

Saw this on the Wigan forum; assuming it is Whelan

“We are disappointed to lose James but he can play in the Premier League again which is what he deserves. Leicester have been an absolute credit throughout the negotiations.

“The money will go towards bringing new signings and Uwe [Rosler, the manager] is already working on targets

Was going to say don't be silly as if he's on a forum. Bit then realised it is Whelan so highly likely. Is there any link between him and our own Whelan??

Let's be honest, this would be a better signing than Cambiasso. He's much younger, still has about 7 years left in him, English is his first language too which means he can communicate better with the team, and he seems like more of a hard worker. This is the kind of player that we have needed, especially with the amount of injuries we have been picking up. And if Hammond feels that he needs a move away from the club then let him, despite him actually being quite good in the past few games.

This is a great signing. Quality player. Fingers crossed. James, Drinkwater, McArtur, Cambiasso and King is as much quality we've had in CM for a long, long time and is comparable to all but the best depth in the league.
