Jeffrey Schlupp

Recommended Posts

I still think he is great, and could become really good. Playing in a side with 5 at the back and two slow centre mids isn't exactly allowing our attackers to have many chances, or just playing so defensively every week (lol newcastle). Apart from Everton which he missed 500 chances.

I think Konchesky has been particularly lucky to have Schlupp in front of him for large parts of the season.

FPL Scout Extra: Schlupp can be managers' secret weapon Leicester defender's recent displays comparable to leading FPL defender Branislav Ivanovic

Jeffrey Schlupp has become an increasingly potent attacking threat over recent Gameweeks

Any Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager worth their salt is always looking for a player who can give their team something extra or a little bit different.

Set-piece specialists and penalty-takers are typical examples, but few players have the potential to afford an FPL manager the edge more than a defender being deployed in an attacking role.

Given that the Barclays Premier League's bottom club Leicester City have kept just four clean sheets all season, it might seem counter-intuitive for managers to even consider drafting a Foxes defender into their squad. But the case for Ghana's Jeffrey Schlupp is starting to gain momentum.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has used Schlupp, a one-time deputy left-back, as an out-and-out winger this term. Classed as a defender in the FPL, Schlupp has been handed even greater licence to attack opponents as a result of Pearson’s recent conversion to a 5-4-1 formation.

Over the last six gameweeks, Schlupp's attacking threat bears comparison to the leading points-scoring defender in the FPL, Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic (141pts; £7.5m, 27.1%).

Schlupp has had 15 touches in opponents' penalty areas and seven attempts on goal, all from inside the box. Ivanovic has 20 and eight respectively, with only five of his efforts from inside the opponents' penalty area. Furthermore, Schlupp has produced more successful passes in his opponents' half and created one more chance for team-mates than Ivanovic during that recent period.

Key stats Schlupp Ivanovic Goals 0 2 Goal attempts 7 8 Goal attempts inside area 7 5 Goal attempts outside area 0 3 Shots on target 2 3 % successful passes
in opponents' half 79.1% 78.7% Chances created 4 3 Touches in opp. area 15 20 Av. mins per key pass 100.5 159.7 Clean sheets 0 3

Significantly, over the season, Leicester have relied on their wide men for a consistent goal threat. Only fellow winger, Riyad Mahrez, has had more efforts on goal for the Foxes than Schlupp (49 to 32).

Unsurprisingly for a Leicester defender, Schlupp comes cheap. At £4.5m he is £3.0m cheaper than Ivanovic. When Leicester's attractive run-in is factored in, Schlupp's stock rises further still.

The Foxes have 11 fixtures to play, including two matches during Gameweek 34. Chelsea aside, every other BPL team have 10 matches remaining. Leicester will also enjoy home advantage in seven of those 11 fixtures and face only one of the current top five sides in the Barclays Premier League.

Favourable run-in - Leicester's remaining fixtures Date Team Venue 14 Mar Hull  Home 21 Mar Spurs Away 4 Apr West Ham Home 11 Apr West Brom Away 18 Apr Swansea Home 25 Apr Burnley Away 29 Apr Chelsea Home 2 May Newcastle Home 9 May Southampton Home 16 May Sunderland Away 24 May QPR Home

With home encounters against Hull City, Newcastle United, Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers, Pearson's side have a fighting chance of retaining their BPL status.

Given that defenders score six points per goal, Schlupp's increased presence in opposition penalty areas makes him a low financial risk with potential for strong rewards: an ideal weapon for the FPL manager looking for an edge as the season draws to a close.

Manchester United don't take players on loan very often and without good reason......better judges than us lot on here....great player, Schlupp, Manhrez, Knockaert, Albrighton , Lawrence ....never had a better set of flair/wide players......

Well, you weren't around in the sixties and seventies, which boasted some of the best wingers in our history.

Schlupp doesn't come near them for quality. I'm not saying he's a bad player though.

Schlupp uses his pace to fire home the equaliser against Liverpool then?

That's not a picture of his goal  lol

But I agree, he does occasionally do something with quality. Only when he doesn't think about it too much though.

Don't get the stick he's getting. One of the few who has stepped up for me. Lacks a brain at times and still has a poor shot on him for me but he's settled in the the left wing role well. Thought he did well today too, defensively solid and a threat going forward.

Goals and assists from him this season. One of the few who can say they've had a decent season.

Today, he was on the pitch. That's about it.

His impact was so inexistent, you could argue it was approaching a negative worth.

No eye for his teammate, slowing the flow of the game down, giving the ball away with his poor passes.

Disappointing.

First half he was diabolical. Gave the ball away in good positions several times in just completely idiotic ways. Terrible body language as well like he can't really be bothered. 2nd half he looked less of a liability but still totally ineffective going forward. If someone offered £400k in the summer I'd snap their hands off.
