Bettsj2 Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 That's a joke... I think... Isn't it...please say yes!! Ha Mwahaha! He stayed on with good reason. He's the only one who has the skill to create out of nothing. Whilst there's a chance of getting back in the game he has to stay on. By the time the 4th went in, no point in taking him off.
sdb Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 when did we last have Pawson? I have a tweet from December where I slated him - what game was that? He's fookin terrible!
Babylon Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 I like how the best player we've had in a decade got berated by most fans at the first sign of a below par performance. Full backs getting slated but they were clearly instructed to attack. I actually thought RDL was one of our best players anyway. Partly admire the way we tried to win the game but we also made it incredibly easy for them at times. CR loves to talk about clean sheets but if we play the way we are at the moment (rightly or wrongly) we'll never get one. If someone plays shit people are free to say so. He shouldn't have been on the pitch, that's not his fault just the managers for not taking him off and persisting with someone clearly struggling.
Dan Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Suppose in some ways it's to be expected. We're a very open side and Arsenal on their day are outrageously good going forward. I'm not even that angry really. If we had to lose I don't even mind it coming in a game where the opposition were brilliant. Sadly I think we played into their hands a bit, although small things did fall against us quite often today. Notably refereeing decisions, and hitting the woodwork. I don't see any new long-term problem. I do think we've got to accept that sometimes we will take a slapping if we play this way. The last thing I want us to do is to start being more defensive on the back of today. We caught Arsenal on a very good day.

Nothing was happening for him from kick off, I'd rather have had Albrighton whipping balls in. thought not having Fuchs on the bench meant we were left not being able to push Schlupp forward. If Dyer isn't there we need the option to push him forward.

The last thing I want us to do is to start being more defensive on the back of today. We caught Arsenal on a very good day. This. We weren't at our best, Ranieri made his first (imo) bad substitution (Okazaki for King) and Arsenal were having a good day at the office. No need to panic and no need to change our entire philosophy. Let's improve where we need to and continue from where we left off without major over-reactions.

I don't think we should start being more defensive but we need to look at our options on the bench who did OK vs West Ham.Kevin Phillips said in a recent interview that Ranieri does not like playing 3 at the back so I am not sure that will happen even though it has worked before. Schlupp seems wasted as a full back when he can be so effective going forward. Mahrez today seemed to neither go forwards or back but that was due to the quality of the opposition On positive note Kante and Drinkwater were excellent in my opinion today Vardy has finally made it if there was any doubt and should surely go to the Euros
Domsdad Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 arsenal on their day ooze class and it sounds like it was today!! All those that were saying none of them could get into our side I hope you were watching today. That was a masterclass in counter attacking football. The score line did flatter them somewhat, and I am optimistic for the rest of the season, but we need to hold our hands up and say well played, they were very good.
Webbo Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Not sure that is a particularly accurate description of the 90 minutes I just watched, beaten by a better team with more quality but soundly thrashed? Conceding 5 goals, beaten by 3 clear goals, totally out played. Seems like a thrashing to me.
foxfanazer Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Arsenal were superb to be fair. Better than anything we played last season
Buce Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Putting it into perspective, we could have been three up in 15 mins with a Vardy hat-trick. Fine margins. But if we are going to persevere with 442 we need a change of personnel in defence. Schlupp is not a left back, and I don't think Morgan is mobile enough. I'd like to see Fuchs at LB, and Benny given a chance alongside Huth - he looked good against WHam. A quality RB is a must in January.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 ScouseFox mate, still wondering why I laughed at you saying Sanchez would only make our bench? Scouse don't half come out with some pearlers! Always good for a laff.
Fatty Arbuckle Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Mahrez was awful today, in fact awful doesn't cover it. Three of their goals came from him losing possession or not tracking from what I remember. The headed goal was down to him totally, can't believe he just left Ozil so free when he knew RDL was already on a man, he looked at him about four times and only bothered running back when it was too late. I can't believe it took until your post for someone to point out just how bad he was. He was awful, I don't think he wanted to be out there today. Everything he did (and didn't do) was just terrible. I can't believe he managed to stay on for 90 minutes; was lucky to get 30 minutes really! I think Ranieri also warrants some criticism today; his substitutions so far this season have been spot on but today was pretty poor. The decision to bring on King for Okazaki was baffling. I could kind of see the logic behind making the midfield a bit stronger, but it meant that any further changes would involve shifting players around the pitch unnecessarily!

I said it on page 1 and i'm sure plenty of others mentioned how bad he was.
lcfcsnow Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 He looked uncomfortable from the start in those (new?) black boots, unfortunately the change at half time didn't seem to improve matters.
st albans fox Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 We were supposed to sit behind the ball and counter them ? Starting so well really screwed us up! Too much ball watching I'm afraid. Great to watch for a neutral but to take on arsenal at 'basketball' is never going to end well for most sides. We ended up with 40%+ possession against arsenal !
coolhandfox Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Naive and far to open against a top side!

Corky Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 We gave it one hell of a shot today but their quality was just too much. I think Ranieri realised it by making it three in midfield for the second half but we actually played a better game in the first half where I felt we were unfortunate to go in losing. Second half they just stepped on the gas, we went for it and were too open at the back. They were so quick in their passing, movement and also mentally, we struggled to get near them at times. However, we didn't give up, we kept trying to play and attack and if we'd made it 3-2 we could've had an interesting finish. Positives for me were Drinkwater who was excellent, Vardy's running and his brilliant first goal, Kante's ability to win the ball without fouling and Albrighton's energy. Negatives- Mahrez just wasn't at it at all, the defence was cut apart too much, De Laet seemed to ball watch a lot. We were going to lose at some point and it's a shame we lost so heavily because I don't think it reflected the overall game. It was much improved on last season's drab 0-1's at home and we still look very threatening going forward. Fans were great too, especially towards the end at 4-1 and 5-2 down.
Jam Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/top-scorers Now that is a sight for sore eyes! Go on Jamie lad!
smudgerfox Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 A bit alarmed to hear CR describe the games against the top four as 'bonus games" - which seemed to confirm suspicions from his pre-match comments that he regards these matches as unwinnable. The truth is that Arsenal were terrible v Spurs in midweek and although they fielded a stronger side today, they are brittle. But offering them a wide open box-to-box game was naive in the extreme - they love that kind of game - having the kind of players who can murder opponents when granted space. The fact is that although teams outside the top 4 are no longer invincible....and beating them or running them close is a huge confidence boost.
Dan Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Schlupp just isn't a left back. Never has been, never will be. Left wing back or left wing.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 Wonder how many are still complaining about the ref?? Our goal was the result of a break in which we should have CONCEDED a penalty from Kante's challenge... The okazaki incident was actually his fault as he ran across the arsenal player, Vardy was tackled fair and square before toppling over the defender. Cheers to the 4/5 idiots that ripped me to shreds in the match thread when I said there was nothing in it and it was our own defending that was the issue. Okazaki MAYBE should have had a penalty but he had lost control of the ball and ran directly at the defender and not around him and get cut off. Frustrating day but some of our fans are ridiculous.
orangecity23 Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 That was clear as day, 2 blatant fouls before Arsenal's second goal. Pawson was awful today, the game could have been very different with a better referee - thought Bellerin was offside on the second goal also. Interesting that MOTD didn't bother showing our penalty shout either. EDIT - Just read City fan Lee's post - has anyone said our defending was good? It wasn't, but it doesn't help when incompetent refs miss clear fouls like the ones on Vardy and Okazaki. The defender grabs Vardy's legs. If you think the Kante tackle was a penalty, you need your eyes testing, the replay showed he clearly won the ball.
AmyLGK Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 What a rubbish MOTD analysis! I had singing singing commitments today so missed the game - MOTD told me nothing!
