Corky Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 He's always had a grudging respect for us too. He didn't like the O'Neill teams but he acknowledged how well organised and committed they were and how good we were last season.

I heard Keown say the other day that when Wenger turned up first day to training he said "this is not a training ground, there are no facilities here" Arsenal were always my favourite side to watch, especially that 1998-2005 period. Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Vieira, Overmars... they could counter within a blink of an eye. I can't see anybody else guiding a team unbeaten through a full PL season. they certainly could, one of my favorite premier league goals was the Steve Bould chip over the top to Tony Adams running on and hammering it home

Pires was my favourite player in that team, particularly in the 2001-02 season, the man just oozed class. Such a shame he got an injury towards the end of that season and missed the 2002 World Cup.

Dan Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 I don't think Wenger is as good as he once was, but I can sympathise with his view on the game and for all the criticism he has received, he's undoubtedly a legend of the English game for me.

Said we'd stay up after admitting we'd outplayed them there in February. That was quite a big call really.

We can say what we want about Arsenal and Arsenal fans but Wenger is an intelligent fascinating man. I really like him and I have tremendous respect for him. I could listen to him all day. The clarity of thought and opinions are beautiful. In an era of cynicism in football Wenger represents the naivety and romance of why we love this game. Really? I think he's a complete twat and in every interview post game he finds a way to complain. He may well have done well 10 years ago, but he's seriously underperformed for years now. Any manager worth knowing would win titles with that Arsenal side.

Even Sir Alex used to whine in post match interviews but he was still a fascinating man and a genius.

Skybet are 11/8 against him being next one out the door. Doesn't look like its a widespread rumour and the fact that he is favourite would seem to be skybet covering their arses whilst the paddy power thing has some flesh put on the bones. unless he he has fallen out with Roman big time then I can't see this having legs.
Dan Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 I could find that funny if we hadn't lost to that shite. What a pathetic result it really was.
Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 This won't be popular in some quarters but I think we should have signed Joe Allen. We missed out there.
Guest Col city fan Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 Looking like Sunderland and Hull will be the real strugglers. Burnley ain't good, but it's that third spot to go down that I suggest is pretty open. No idea why people still criticise Bournemouth. They are a good side, and especially at home. Can't see them being relegated.

Like you said they're a good side but not only that, I think one of the key reasons why they do well is because their brand of football suits the league. They've surely got to be up there for some of the best passers of the ball in the PL. When they came to our place (granted we let teams have possession) but they moved & distributed the ball very well. They will be fine, especially with players like Wilson, Ibe, Wilshire etc.

I think Bournemouth are an OK side, theyll probably have enough to stay up considering the likes of Sunderland are really struggling, Hull are dropping off dramatically, Burnley are struggling and id have question marks over Middlesbrough and Swansea. So i think theyll have enough to stay up relative to those teams. But Bournemouth get an easy ride in my opinion. Having a little ground, and a young English manager, straight away theyre given more time and less harsh criticism over performances. So there is never really a microscope on them or much pressure on them. I saw two games they played this season, West Ham and Man City away, both games they were totally awful, yet didnt come in for much criticism at all for the performances. And there still seems to be a perception around that they dont buy anyone. Clearly not true, when a club like Bournemouth can drop £15 million on Ibe. Theyre not short of cash. Eddie Howe is a good manager, but again he gets an easy ride too. Hes not really any better than a lot of managers in the league, but because his style of play is a little more attractive, because hes English that instantly over rates him. I watched soccer saturday a few weeks ago and the panel were pretty much taking the piss out of Walter Mazzari as if he was some kind of idiot. Yet Watford are every bit as attractive as Bournemouth, have put some impreesive displays and wins in this season and will probably finish higher up the table. It certainly makes life easier if everyone decides theyre going to cut you more slack that is for sure.
lgfualol Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 That Cresswell red card was some awful refereeing
trabuch Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 We played Hull at the worst time possible - but still - that must be our worst result so far this season.
