IMO there are only three types of players we should be signing:

 

a) Players who get into the first team

b) Up and coming young players who are expected to force their way in at some point like Chilwell, Gray, Amartey, Kapustka, etc. 

c) Squad fillers who offer decent cover but are free or cheap like Hernandez, King, Zieler,etc.

 

Signing squad players who are mid to late 20's for eight figure sums will eventually get you relegated.

I'm just starting to get a little concerned about the amount of unsettling the squad has gone through over the summer. A lot of people linked with moves away, a few demanding big new contracts, people (apparently) being stopped from leaving. 

 

It cannot possibly be good for the "brotherhood" that we keep being told about. I reckon at least 50% of our success last season was down to everyone being willing to die for the cause and leaving absolutely everything on the pitch. I'm just worried it we have even 2 or 3 on the pitch that aren't giving absolutely everything, then the ones that are will be thinking "why should I be busting my balls for this guy next to me when he's not going to do the same in return!?"

I really hope I'm wrong and the lads pull together but I have reservations.

To me Schlupperman has no price. He has helped Leicester to win some very important points last year. Aside from his entertainment value he's versatile still very young and if given chance, could be Leicester's secret weapon yet again. I'm positive he'll do alright in Champions League.

 

So he's unhappy, that's no big deal, just feed him with pizza and chocolates, he'll outpace everyone in the league anyway

schlupp is 23, can be alright as a first team player, offers great cover and was free. he literally ticks every single box you want to sign. and he's already here.

Something will have gone seriously wrong with Fuchs, Chilwell, Mahrez, Albrighton, Gray and Kaputska if he has.

i wouldn't think he will either but he could do. and he played a decent number of games last year. 

 

selling him for a pretty low sum is just pointless really, unless he is genuinely kicking up an almighty fuss. can start if needed, can change a game off the bench. can play in about 15 positions (although not very well in many). he's an absolutely ideal squad player as long as he's happy as a squad player. 

 

and thats before you even mention how funny he is. when we turn shit he will still be funny. think about that. if we sign someone good when we turn shit they will be shit. at least schlupp will still do something insane once a match.

I don't think people are making that assumption but Kapustka is a 19 year old Polish international, he's surely in a similar ball park to Schlupp and it's important we allow him room to develop and play rather than Schlupp taking his place on the bench.

He played quite a few at left back though and nailing down Chilwell for 5 years suggests that route is now blocked for him. If he genuinely wants first team football, i'm just not sure it will be good for anyone keeping an unhappy player until his contract runs out, when he is not a vital member of our first team.

Don't feel strongly about this either way, but if rumours are true that the owners blocked Schlupp's sale against his wishes, that means Mahrez is definitely staying....

CR's philosophy at the beginning was that he doesn't want unhappy players so they can go.. Why go against all that suddenly, He repeated this statement numerous times last season. I honestly think this is the papers making up bullsh*t to get a story. I believe Jeff is happy as a kite.

I've said I'd keep Albrighton and Mahrez as our first choice wingers, Gray is first choice for me after those and then I'd expect Kaputska to push on if he's as talented as some have claimed he is, the "powerhouse Premier League winner" who started less games than Danny Simpson wouldn't be on the bench though for me now, so I'd sell him for 12 million quid.
