Our problem is our midfield, they're shit they're playing on past glories, hoof it score a goal. It ain't working that way this time around ,you've got to be even more clinical in your passes and crosses. Sort the midfield out and we'll have winning ways again.

Personally feel Vardy has been made abit of a scape goat, and he's in prime position to be being as he has a fat new contract and is constantly in ok magazine, but until we get the ball down and play it, he's wasted in this side.

lgfualol Posted 10 February 2017 Posted 10 February 2017 It's a fair point that he doesn't get service but he looks like his confidence is shot and I'm not sure playing him more will help. We play so negatively none of our strikers will flourish, but Vardy most of all because he is so dependent on defenders playing a high line and our players literally do not know how to play football other than whacking it up the pitch. We don't have the quality in the team to unlock space for him when the other team are waiting for Morgan's hoofs. Out of the usual line-up only Mahrez could probably do it and he is busy being marked by 3 blokes. Then you have the occasional Albrighton or Drinkwater long ball that might not go straight out of play. Okazaki won't do anything, not sure he has ever completed a through ball in his life. To me it only makes sense for us to drop him and play with a big bloke up front, bringing Vardy off the bench when the other team are tired and we are winning/drawing. OR play him in a team like the one we fielded against Derby, ball on the floor, powerful crosses across the face of the goal. That will require some big changes by Ranieri though.
st albans fox Posted 10 February 2017 Posted 10 February 2017 Could be argued he isn't making the quality of runs that he did last season so isn't getting as many chances. Some of his runs last year were just asking for a pass (which came). it's a combination of different things but to say he 'isn't working as hard as he was' is clearly not true and smacks a little of scapegoating. Our collective distance run is down 2km per match so the whole team isn't covering as much ground.

We started playing more on the deck once they stopped pressing as they tired - whilst the game was being played at a decent pace, we were still hoofing

shade Posted 10 February 2017 Posted 10 February 2017 can't vardy and the other striker drop deep, to the half way line, meaning the defence either has to come with them, or stay deep allowing them to receive a pass and turn and run.

Whether that's because his only move is the running off the shoulder of the last man or not I don't know, but I definitely remember the last time he didn't play, we seemed to actually play football a bit, like on Wednesday.

I don't think it matters who we have up front, in fact I'm convinced that we'd still hoof it forwards even if we had no-one there at all! Problem is that the guy on the ball rarely has anyone open to receive the ball in the midfield or wide so the long wallop upfield is his safest option. Last season we were confident and adept at receiving the ball whilst under pressure and playing in triangles, and I saw a bit of that against Derby for pretty much the first time this season.

He's not exactly been busting a gut to close players down or even come deep to try anything different. Good strikers have to adapt their game like Shearer did following serious injury when he could no longer rely on his pace. Perhaps Vardy just hasn't got it in him. Either way we would have a better unit this weekend without him, there are other players better suited to playing just off Slimani, Okazaki, Marhez, Gray or even Kaputska at a push for that particular role.

Bobby Robson helped Shearer change his game (- help that was poorly repaid bu shearer...). At 30 there will soon come a time when vardy needs a plan b also... maybe it has come? IMO his life is way to complex now for him to focus on sorting football out... before football just took care of itself for him... but now he must prioritize working on his game. I Wonder what help rebekah (aka yoko) will be?

Whilst normally I would be cynical some of the images and action taken by the owner & manger give me a bit of confidence that actually they are all pulling together. As has been stated proof will be on Sunday but Vardy deserves a bit of support from us and I for one hope he turns this round on Sunday. Heres hoping that they come out and get an early goal because I do not think we are that far away from turning the corner.......might be blind hope but hey someone has to believe!!!!!
