dorsetboy Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Couple of yanited fans at work said today it's our biggest match in our history .. I'm thinking never ,i was there when Tony James scored to keep us up at Oxford , i was there for claridges winner against palace for premier league footy.but then I'm thinking this game could get us into the quarter finals of the champs league which we will probably never see again in all reality . What do you think

What do you think Any promotion or relegation game is bigger What about our 4 FA Cup FINALS, actual finals not just a R16 game This is the biggest of the rest, but nowhere near the biggest in our history
Fox 4 Life Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 I would argue that the Swansea or United games towards the end of last season were bigger. They were the ones that won us the premier league title, something completely unheard of. Even if we win tomorrow we aren't winning the champs league so as big as it is that takes it away a bit IMO.
SheppyFox Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 In a sense but if we're ambitious enough to believe we can get there again, it isn't.
Harry - LCFC Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Depends what is meant by "big". If it just means level of importance then no, we played several more important games than this last season. Even if we're talking about the magnitude of the ocassion I'd still says our games at Arsenal and Man City were more awe-inspiring events
Vacamion Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 If so, it's only because we won the league last year and because we've bounced around the two leagues below us, so we've already been there and done that. Tomorrow is the gateway to something unprecedented.
Guest MattP Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 No. We had far bigger games towards the end of last season. It would be amazing to win tomorrow.
norwichfox Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 The biggest game for me (and the biggest disappointment) was the 1961 FA Cup Final, still not got over it ...Hoping that tomorrow puts a new light on that event
The Blur Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 It would be a more relevant question if we were playing Sevilla in the final.
Gerard Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 No chance, nowhere near in fact. No one thinks we have a chance of winning it so we#re here for the fun of it rather than business. We're like Lincoln in the FA Cup at the QF stage as they were there also for the ride rather than in it to win it. Not that we couldn't win it if the stars aligned but Swansea at home last season was much bigger.
Ted Maul Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 In terms of importance? Nowhere near. It could end up being one of the best nights in our history though.

Yes this is the biggest game of our lives, it doesn't matter what our chances are, this is possibly our last European fixture for years to come. Win or lose this is massive, the PL will always be within our reach, Europe won't.

The reward/failure ratio for playing Swansea at home last season was far greater than Sevilla tomorrow. Swansea was a huge step towards the title, a win tomorrow will feel like another great European away day chance rather than a step closer to being Champions of Europe.
Mark_w Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 No chance, we were playing Manchester United in a match that could have seen us become the Premier League champions last season.
weller54 Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 I'd swap three points on Saturday at West Ham for a win tomorrow.. We aren't going to win the CL!
bovril Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Biggest occaision will always be the Everton match. Most important game would be from the run in last season. Sunderland away or West Ham at home. At the time, WHU seemed like our entire history was hinging on that one second half, even though in retrospect we already had enough points to win the league. I think the 96 playoff final also changed the direction of the club massively.
Blue ROI Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 No way. It's a big game but Swansea at home last season was the biggest game for me. Nothing has come close to that.
stripeyfox Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Nowhere near the biggest match in our history...

What do you think Absolutely our biggest game, it's the furthest we've ever got, we've won the league, which for me is bigger than the FA cup and the Champions is a higher level competition than the Premier league, so has to be our biggest game. We get to enter the FA Cup every year, tomorrow night is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
