Mahrez to .......................?

The trouble is what sort of Marhez would we be left with?  As for Marhez himself, sometimes you reap what you sow...tough.

So long as he gave his all I don't think Mahrez would have any trouble returning to the fold. He's been given his chance to move with whatever conditions have been agreed.

There's been a reasonable timescale for him to realise his wishes and the way of it has been far better than the disruptive cloak and dagger stuff that seemed to be going on last season.

If no deal is made then there'll surely come a time when the door closes and we need to get on with our season. Mahrez would stand to benefit from having the chance to enhance his value through his contribution to what we all hope will be another successful season.

I can't see a problem except if the outcome is not sorted soon, one way or the other and so affects our own decision-making and preparations.

John Cross from the Mirror on Twitter:

Thomas Lemar is Arsenal's first choice next signing. Mahrez is flattering himself if he thinks he's anything other than back up option.

If Mahrez wants a move that badly all he has to do is play out of his skin and the world will be shoving chequebooks in his face.

Exactly! I genuinely think Xmas is his best option , have an amazing three or four months and when a big team is struggling to compete and create chances he's got more value all round. Has he got the character for it though

If he does play for us this coming season and does turn it on, turn up, play out his skin I think it'll ask more questions of him downing tools last season than there already is.

People claim 'he'll play better with better players around him' or 'he's being marked too much, not got the space'. Well while he's here that won't change so if he's amazing and becomes good after last season and those excuses then I'm even more confused.

That said hopefully he does turn it round, turn it on, work hard and ultimately get his move because they'll be good for us and him.

Ultimately I'm just frustrated how he treated last season and that is the problem most of these people who apparently 'hate' him have with him.

He's created this mess though and only has himself to blame - I'm sure he doesn't see it that way though.

I have no problem with Mahrez wanting to move on. What I do have a problem with is him and his agent cooking up statements for the media trying to pressurise our club into selling cheap. This club has been good to him and vice versa, but trying to apply pressure through the media is a low blow.

The worst thing for the club in this is the "not knowing". It doesn't help us to plan the preseason if, at any moment up to the end of the window, Mahrez might suddenly leave and we have to scramble for a replacement.

Could we not publish an ultimatum - we will not entertain any bids that come after the deadline we set e.g. in 2 week's time?

I hate rich clubs like Arsenal trying to buy other teams top players on the cheap. We scouted him. Helped him become a top player. That's what your paying for. Pay the 50 million asking price or stop unsettling him. If you want him that badly pay up.

i knew this was going to drag on all season. Guaranteed he goes just as the season starts for 35 million.

That's the thing, they don't want him that badly. He's clearly just a back up plan if they can't get Lemar. Don't know why Mahrez wants to go somewhere where he's not guaranteed a starting place

Ffs. He didn't down tools any more than Morgan did. He just had a poor season.

Morgan hadn't got the tools but tried his best, Marhez had but didn't. Can forgive the first but not the latter.

Not really ... most clubs are in the same boat.... Arsenal have the same problem with Sanchez

A nice result would be if Lamar doesn't go to Arsenal, Sanchez leaves with 1 week to go and Juventus or similar snap up Marhez for £40M. Haha happy days!

Hopefully he won't have a guaranteed starting spot here either if he stays. He will need to earn it back again.

What about Vardy then August - February? He was the worst underperforming player in our squad, it was horrifying. Mahrez did improve anyway just not quite as dramatically as Vardy and a few others.

Arsenal insists on Lemar, Mahrez is plan B in this file, Arsenal offers 45-50 m for the young player of monaco and I think he addon 5-10 million in bonuses if ever it is possible.

Arsenal has not made any offers for Riyadh, so the rumors on twitter are rumors and I do not care, Riyadh needs to prepare for a new season with Leicester because no one but a slight interest in arsenal , Is not interested by him.

Sorry for my english

Mardy Vardy had the hump with Claudio and sulked.

Gooner here. Mahrez made a tactical error prior to last season and is paying the price today. He could have moved last season as he had great demand after an excellent season. He decided to stay and indicated he was promised a move by management the following year. This kind of arrangement is great if he had performed well but he didn't thus he is stuck in this situation. His movement is dictated by demand and right now it doesn't look promising. Konte last season left while he was hot and moved from strength to strength. Suarez tried to move from Liverpool to Arsenal a few years back but was convinced to stay with the team. They promised to let him leave the following year. He actually performed better the next season and was sold to Barca for a great price. Arsenal’s Sanchez is doing ever thing he can force a move to Man City. His situation is better than Mahrez as he can leave for free next year but he is pushing hard for move now. He understands that one bad season can cut his value and he may not be able to get top dollar next year. Arsenal knows Mahrez is a quality player but his stock has eroded and they will try to get  Lemar as the first option. If they don't succeed, they may come for Mahrez. I doubt they will pay the asking fee so he might have to spend another season with you guys. If this occurs, he will have to produce a great season to leave the following year or he may have to end up running down his contract with City. He will have left almost 10 million pounds on the table if he plays again for City this season. Fans might not like to hear this but Football is a business. This is why owners tie players to contracts to spell out the terms of their employment. Mahrez appears to have scored an own goal here

He didn't want to force his way out last summer - was convinced to stay the extra year but I figure the size of the offer we received last summer (wasn't official as no solid bid ever made) dictates what we will accept now. I have always thought 42million.

He has 3 years left on his 4 year contract which he was happy to sign beginning of last season, for whatever reason he had a difficult season which followed his multi award winning season that is up to him !

The club has Valued  him at £50m nothing less will get them to sell him on as Shaky has rightly said he's still under contract for another 3 years and if he downs tools to force a move then he will be dropped fined etc!

He now has to prove himself again if he still wishes to leave the club but has he damaged his own worth by all these so called reports regarding a fall out with the club making him sound like a prima Donna ?

So if no one comes in for him with the clubs valuation then he remains a Leicester City player and has to play to the best of his ability that we all know he can unless someone stumps up £50m.

Why would they want to pay £50mill for a player who has had one good season? lol

Arsenal are bigger than us, Mahrez is unsettled and wants to leave, if they can keep chipping away then I'm sure they'll think we'll give in eventually. We don't have a great history of getting value for our players as it is. Wenger, for all his faults, isn't an idiot and there's no way he'll want to pay that much for a player who has only done it for one season. If I was an Arsenal fan (or a fan of any club going for Mahrez) then I'd be disappointed at chucking £50million on him.

Although I don't like these crazy fees - look at Pogba, Bale and even back to the likes of Ferdinand - at least these players have proved themselves season after season.

He obviously had a poor season, but it strange to think no club as even tested the waters with a bid last summer or so far this one. If he does desperately want a move he must be panicking about the situation, which won't do him or the club and good.
