His value is predicated (to a degree) on the salary o/s on his contract. For example, if he is earning 50k /week for 4 years then his contract is worth 10 million. Is there precedent for a player buying himself out of his contract? he has three years remaining currently @ 100k/week = 15 million. We can demand a big fee because of the time left of his contract and the size of his salary. If we had given him a two year deal then he could sit around for another year and leave for nowt. If we had refused to offer him a new deal then he would have demanded to leave. (Not surprisingly )
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 If that's the case then Mahrez must have a pretty lousy agent

AmarteyAndChill Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 Rudkin. Sells Mahrez for £20m Buys Maguire for £30m. packs his bags and jets off to Dubai, transfer window done.
Finn Claw II Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 gentleman's agreement or not, when a bigger club comes knocking not many clubs hold on to their star players. Even the likes of Man Utd loose players to Real Madrid. Him signing a 4 year contract puts us in a stronger position but he gets paid a better wedge for the year, that was his trade-off. I still think he will go but at the right price for us. For those of you wishing him out the door, Mahrez is one of the most talented players I've ever seen at Leicester, he didn't match his title winning form but who did?

He didn't really even show 50 per cent of the form last year, and when there was a bounce in form for the team his displays still left a lot to be desired. i just hope that if he is here come August that he isn't guaranteed a starting place after his recent statements, it could end up with gray demanding to leave.

He looked like a player that didn't want to be here, Man City away pen was so lazy it wasn't going to go in anyway! everything he did was half arsed! I love Riyad I'm just gutted how he turned up last season because it was like playing with 10 men

I love Riyad I'm just gutted how he turned up last season because it was like playing with 10 men Not sure who was out there that drew six fouls against Bournemouth, many times with no support on forward runs. Did he have a poor season considering what we know he can do? Sure, but the hyperbole on this forum about Riyad last season is getting sad. I've spoken to one of his teammates and they'd all love Riyad back next season but none would begrudge him for wanting a move to do what he feels he needs to do in his life and for his family (unfortunately, even the players are in the dark about most transfer news, sorry). We might all have a nicer summer if we took a page out of the players' book on this one.

I'm resigned to seeing Mahrez go but I've been excited to see what Gray can do for us on a regular basis since he joined. I guess we've still got Albrighton and Barnes, and Chilwell if we're looking at using wing-backs rather than wingers. But if both Riyad and Dimmy do both go we'll need some serious investment in that area. I hope Gray sees his best chance of first team football here rather than somewhere like Spurs. He's got plenty of time to improve as a player with us.

Bluearmyfox28 Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 I'm sure Gray put a post on twitter or instagram saying "roll on next season #Bluearmy...." i could be wrong?

st albans fox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 Funnily enough, odds on riyad staying now 3/1 (was 7/1 a couple days ago) arsenal eased a little to 5/4

Mahrez showed that if he's in a team that's playing well, he's fantastic. He's won a league title and was crowned as player of the year literally this time last year. Granit Xhaka went for £35 million to Arsenal. ****ing Moussa Sissokho cost £30 and he played one decent game in the Euros. If we can't bump it up to £50 million and get a buyer then someone's had a shocker negotiating a deal. If Pickford i worth £30m, and was part of a side that was relegated, Mahrez has to be worth at least £60m - player of the year last year and instrumental in us winning the League.

Mahrez will go for big money due to the fact he was PFA Player of The Year in 15/16. You don't fluke one of them. His stock is still very, very high.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 14 June 2017 Posted 14 June 2017 Look....I hope we do sell him for a decent fee, but I can't agree his stock is really high after such a poor effort last season. Suitors are not exactly queueing around the block are they? The worst of all worlds is that he stays and gets picked every week again, despite sulking.
Staffs Fox Posted 14 June 2017 Posted 14 June 2017 If I'm honest I think a few clubs are interested but have no bloody idea where to start the bidding just like us! His stock has fluctuated so much over the past 12 months and so has the market, I think a few clubs are waiting for others to make the first move to gauge the situation 12 months ago you'd easily expect £45-50m of a player of his calibre however he was quite poor last year so his relative market value has fallen. With that said the market is now mad and clubs have money burning their pockets, £45-50m last summer is now £70m no exaggeration. So is Mahrez still worth £45-50m in this market? I'd argue maybe, He has years left on a good contract and we do not need to sell. In an era of £30m Sissoko's and Pickfords. Last seasons PFA player of the year is worth at least a 1/3 more
