His natural level of motivation and work rate is pretty low and he isn't particularly keen on scrapping it out. Perfect for Arsenal. Too bad he was motivated enough to win the poty and help win the league. 1 year and suddenly he lacks motivation? And work rate never stopped from winning the league as the best player on the team (and before anyone tries to discredit him more, he was voted by his fellow footballers.) That's what's wrong, always drooling over workhorses!

He can get away with patchy work rate and attitude in our team because he's surrounded by players that will cover him. My point was that Arsenal is full of top quality players with a similar attitude and look where is has got them. Signing players like Mahrez is exactly the reason that Arsenal have struggled to challenge for a title for years.

I would argue that Arsenal's problem has been building their team mainly of athletic players with pace or power (e.g. Walcott, Welbeck, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Giroud, Xhaka). If anything, Arsenal don't have anywhere enough flair players to unlock defenses or play the style of football they used to. They tend to overpower the less fit teams in the league still but don't have anywhere near the talent required to compete in Europe or against the better English sides.

You're not going to win a title playing Gibbs, Ramsey, Coquelin, Walcott every game.
Bazly Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 I cannot see Arsenal coming up with more than £30mn for our man Mahrez which means he will either go on the cheap or we wont sell and we get to see if he can man up next season or sulk.

That's what's wrong, always drooling over workhorses! '1 year and he lacks motivation?' Yes.....that has proven to be the case. Anecdotally its plain to see when you look at the effort he put in last season. It was miles behind the previous year. Add to that every statistic you can find on him last season and it's not even a point for discussion. Open and shut case of lack of desire or motivation - whatever you want to call it.
ARM1968 Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 Fuching anyone. Just sell the miserable whining cvnt. We're not big enough for him. Wow. Where was he when we took a chance eh? great player though, when he can be arsed.

What titles? They have won one for over 15 years!! Do you still have 90's re-runs of the Premier League on in Algeria?

ARM1968 Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 Not sure Arsenal are the Big club he's after. Real or Barca are his targets. So I imagine he will end up a squad player for the arse.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 I have posted this before, but I have it on good authority that he is known to not be as strong mentally as he is gifted with his feet. Some feel the 15/16 season form will never be repeated as he doesn't have it upstairs. Consequently the big boys with their big money are very vary of investing in an expensive Mahrez. He should stay and prove them wrong. His future is in his own left peg.
mancunianfox Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 Perhaps he wants to go to Arsenal to be the only player in the side with a PL winners medal?

Arsenal actually tend to do quite well against the top sides, or at least they prove they are capable of it every season. It's not just Ozil. They have a lot of players that think they've made it. They think they are top class and expect success as result. It's probably the British players that are the biggest culprits of this. They believe their own hype and as a result don't have guts or desire to see through a successful 38 game season.

Steve Earle Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 I'd rather have an unhappy Mahrez at Leicester next season than us take a penny less than £50m for him. If Kyle Walker's valued at £50m, Dier the same and Gylfi £40m, then the most gifted footballer I've ever seen in a royal blue shirt has to be worth more. And we don't need to sell to fund our spending plans.
Detroit Blues Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 I don't think Mahrez has played his cards right. If his main ambition was to make a move to Barcelona/Real Madrid, the smart thing to do would have been to leave when his stock is at it's highest value. He should have left Leicester on top, after winning the premier league and the PFA player of the year award. His dream clubs would have been more likely to fancy him, and he would have brought in a much higher return to Leicester. He risked coming back another season to help the team in the champions league, but he didn't seem to take the premier league season seriously. Even after Ranieri departed, and the team was in form, he didn't exactly look like last year's Mahrez. His stock value took a major hit, and yet he still decided to push for a move. To make matters worse, he even made it public, which takes away his plan B of coming back to Leicester for next season. Now he has to either make the move to another club to prove himself again, or embarrassingly return to the club he said he wanted to leave. Let's say he goes to Arsenal. Even if he has a good year and proves that he is a world class winger, are they really going to immediately sell him? Making the move now ensures he will have even less leverage in the short term. I think his most realistic route towards a big move to a european club involves having a big year at Leicester. If he comes back, takes some fair criticism from the fans/club, and plays like he did two years ago, he might be able to make a move in 2018.
