If anything, it's going downhill. Pearson has not improved this team at all, compared to the previous manager (who was already not well liked due to meager results and style of play). Lost a home game against the weakest team in the draw, last week. This week secured one point in a home game that had to be won to retain a chance for promotion, in the 93th minute thanks to a penalty. Will trade Pearson for Moore.

Wow that’s a surprise ! ...   is he going through a rebuilding phase or is it just plain bad management ? ...    do you really want him gone asap ...    or give him a bit longer ? ...    is that the general consensus ?     And thanks for letting me know ...

Pearson has nerves?

Nerves of steel that man.

Hows it all going over there anyway? I follow Leuven on twitter but that's no indication of how they are performing etc

The owners will give Pearson time much like he had here. They clearly see him as someone who with time can build a club. They didn’t have much reason to sack the previous manager but Pearson will oversee the set up of sports science, training facilities and all what he did here.

1-0 winners against SK Lierse this weekend. Coupled with Cercle Brugge's goalless draw against Tubize, Leuven are now back in 2nd spot, three points off the top.

Promotion is still within reach.

You are looking at the combined table which is worthless.

https://uk.soccerway.com/national/belgium/second-division/20172018/closing/r40898/ - that’s the second phase table, Leuven are 3rd and six points behind.

I’m trying to work out whether theirs is the most confusing league structure in the world or not!?

I know.

Doesn't take anything away from the fact that OH Leuven are back in the race for promotion. Six points behind Cercle in the 2nd half table. I do hope they use this opportunity.

Next game is at home against Beerschot on Saturday - Cercle Brugge are away at Union Saint-Gilloise.

There’s two games left. Cercle need a point and Leuven can’t catch em. It’s as good as done sadly. Oddly their crazy system means they could still play in europe.

Leuven to enter Europa League play-offs

City’s sister club OH Leuven have missed out on promotion from the Belgian second tier but could still qualify for the Europa League.

Leuven’s 1-1 draw at the weekend, combined with Cercle Brugge’s 1-1 draw, means Nigel Pearson’s side are out of the promotion hunt with one game to go in the regular season.

Cercle Brugge will take on Beerschot Wilrijk, who topped the table after the first half of the season, in a two-legged promotion play-off.

Missing out on promotion means Leuven will take part in the Europa League play-offs though.

This is where it gets complicated, so bear with us.

The second tier’s top three sides (in the combined league table), that don’t achieve promotion, qualify for the Europa League play-offs.

So Leuven and two of their second-tier rivals join up with nine top-flight clubs (those ranked seventh to 15th in First Division A), where they’ll be split into two groups of six. After a home-and-away round robin, the top two from each group face each other in a semi-final. The winner of that encounter moves onto the final, where they’ll play the fourth-placed side from the top-flight’s title play-off group. The eventual victor enters the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

All clear?

So all they need to do is win the next 15 games. Simples.

12 games (10 round Robin games, 1 semifinal, 1 final). Not so simple after all

on a serious note, aren't there rules about teams with the same owners and playing in Europe?

Yes, so even if by some master class from Nige, and they qualify, they wouldn't be allowed to play in the Europa League if we are in it, as we take priority as we finished in a higher position in our domestic league structure.
