I think he struggled with the pressure at Leicester, and I think most people would. He created a group ethic so strong we won the Premier League. That was his group, his mentality he put on that, and all through it you saw the pressure that he was under. He had times that he really struggled with it, he created a siege mentality, he lived it and at times it just boiled over. Then as you have that something special, it is taken away from you when you are sacked for protecting your son. Then you watch what you have created win something that you don’t get any credit for. Its obvious it took a lot out of him as he ended up in Belgium. You only do that if you want a way out of the cauldron. I am only guessing on this one, but I would think he has a lot to deal with in his head and I really hope he is okay with it all. For me I wouldn’t be alright. If I created that and saw others benefit from it and the prize was so big, I honestly would struggle with that. It would be like losing a winning lottery ticket, but worse as it was your life, it wasn’t just by chance, he worked and built it. I have every respect for Nigel, he created something very very special, and I would never want him to be sacked or suffer downfall. I am 200% convinced, that had Pearson stayed at Leicester, that he would not have won the league. I'm sure he played his role in forming the team, the spirit, the atmosphere, but frankly the guy is a bit clueless when it comes to tactics and strategy. We've had managers like this in the past as well (Van Geneugden comes to mind). All about team spirit, mentality, effort... and this can work for a team that can afford to sit back and wait it out, a team for which every point is golden, or when the opposition isn't really talented. But as soon the other team is on par and when you can't afford to sit back, but have to take control of the game, it all starts to crumble, it comes tumbling down into a chaotic mess. It makes it sound like it was easy, that anyone could have done it with our squad. It truly is a laughable idea. Yes he put the foundations in place but in a game of fine margins the slightest change of approach and we may have not even finished in the top half of the table. He took us up from the 3rd tier to the Premier League and assembled our title winning squad. Hence the loyalty to him in here.
