Realist Guy In The Room Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 This is gonna end one way and one way only. Top 4 and Champions League.

I bet none of us ever expected Shakey to end up as our Manager when he first arrived all those years ago. If Appleton does a great job as AM and the players respect him and enjoy working with him, then who knows what the future might hold for him? He may end up following exactly the same progression as Shakey has done with us. And it might all be part of Top's master succession plan. Maybe from now on we'll now be adopting the old Liverpool 'boot-room' philosophy of appointing from within? Never say never in football...
ALC Fox Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 And to think that there were murmerings of Shakey's appointment taking too long. We now have a manager and assistant in place, and rumours of Powell joining them as a coach. I have to admit, if Powell does join, Shakey may have pulled off a masterstroke with them both having decent managerial experience. Shakey certainly did very well on his own but they'll help him when it comes to coping with the pressure of being the man at the top and being the one making the final decisions. With Maguire already in and rumours of other bids going in for players, I can't wait for next season already. Imagine the following amendment to this classic pub quiz question: Before Craig Shakespeare in 2017/18, who was the last English manager to win English football's top division?
RoboFox Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 He's clearly been brought in to fill the "club enforcer" role left vacant by Wasyl:
katieakita Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 See he got a rollicking from that Ferguson guy who used to manage that red club in Manchester about taking no win jobs like at Blackburn and Blackpool and he seems to have taken his advice. Seems this Ferguson chap has a fare bit of respect for him as a coach and how he gets teams to play. Add that to the fact that Shakey wanted him so what is not to like
maddog Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 Superb. I wonder if the players will like the new assistant manager, more than the previous assistant manager as manager

mozartfox Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 So where does this leave Stowell? As he appeared to be taking up the 'assistant' role?

jumbo747 Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 The outlook for new season beginning to look better and better.
Tielemans63 Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 I was worried that Shakey might be too nice for the top job. Maybe he recognises that in himself and has brought in a bit of bruiser for the good cop/ bad cop routine. Yes, I'm totally judging MA on his appearance.
Jonezy Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 He seems like Shakey's choice and have a good rep from Oxford. I like it. Welcome to the club Michael!

Tuna Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 He's one of the brightest young coaches in England with a burgeoning reputation. It's a real coup to have got him onboard I'm delighted that the club have made it happen.
LCCFox96 Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 Very satisfied with this. He's a top coach and built a good side at Oxford United, as well as some successful managerial experience. Exactly the type of character we've had working behind the scenes during the successes of the previous seasons under Pearson and Ranieri and just what we needed going into next season too. Good move from Shakespeare and feeling positive about it. Michael Appleton, welcome to Leicester. Now go and get Chris Powell in too.

AmarteyAndChill Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 His recruitment was superb at Oxford aswell. Something he had a lot to do with. Walsh replacement?
RumbleFox Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 To me, when he smiles, something about him looks slightly like Eddie Marsan. And I like Eddie Marsan. Though Michael is like some crazy hench, fvcked up tattood tw@t BNP arms bigger than my waist Eddvie Bastarding Marsan which is even better. Welcome Michael, I like you. You will be a success. X
Dan Posted 20 June 2017 Posted 20 June 2017 Potentially a very clever appointment. I think he fits our ethos completely. He was very highly regarded as a coach but his errors have been in who he actually joined - constantly at sides who nobody would succeed with. To do that three times on the spin is hard to get your head around. But the first club he's had a real chance to build something at - he has done. When were Oxford last in the second tier? I get the impression in a year or two under him they'd have probably gotten there. They've been on an upwards curve under him and that's what I like. Continuous improvement. Something we've been very good at. Knows Shakespeare and has a very good reputation as a coach. Ideal. I do feel sorry for Oxford though I must admit. Imagine losing your manager to someone as an assistant.
