Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 31 October 2017 Posted 31 October 2017 6 miles away from the ground is not "the outskirts of the city" John. Good news, mind.
urban.spaceman Posted 31 October 2017 Posted 31 October 2017 Leicester plans for new training ground gather pace share Leicester are hoping to upgrade their facilities John Percy 31 OCTOBER 2017 • 10:30 PM Leicester are advancing plans for a new training base as they bid to take the Premier League club to another level. The 2015-16 title winners are targeting a move into an ultra-modern facility within the next three years, with negotiations understood to be progressing well. Leicester’s Thai owners, the Srivaddhanaprabha family, want to make another huge financial commitment by moving away from the present Belvoir Drive site to a location on the outskirts of the city. It is believed Leicester have taken advice from both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, who have both recently relocated into new training grounds, as they formulate plans for the move. The location is thought to be closer to the M1, over six miles away from the King Power Stadium, and Leicester’s owners are investing a significant amount into the new centre. The new facility could top over £60million. England recently trained at Tottenham's new training ground CREDIT: GETTY IMAGES Claude Puel, the new Leicester manager, was made aware of the potential move during the talks before his appointment. He said: “The [present] training centre is not new, but the feeling is very good and I found a good atmosphere. “For the future they are modelling a new training ground and there will be new facilities coming. It is an exciting time and I am honoured to be here.” Claude Puel was told of the plans before he took over as Leicester manager CREDIT: GETTY IMAGES Leicester’s owners completed their takeover in 2010 and have made huge strides in that time, with the club winning the Championship title in the 2013-14 campaign under Nigel Pearson. Two years later they lifted the Premier League against all odds, while last season they also reached the Champions League quarter-finals, earning £73million. Puel guided Leicester to a 2-0 win over Everton in his first game on Sunday, with a trip to Stoke this weekend.
Albert Posted 31 October 2017 Posted 31 October 2017 Makes complete sense. It's been talked about for years. The big housing construction companies will be desperate to get their hands on such a prime location & will be queuing up with big offers for the land. Sell to the highest bidder and relocate.
brucey Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 reinvestment of the CL money it seems good on the owners 1
urban.spaceman Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Interesting they've gone for advice from Spurs and Man City. They're both pretty big facilities though Man City have dedicated small stadiums for their academy and women's teams; I'd imagine we'll go for something smaller but something that will benefit and help expand the academy and possibly bring the women's team into the fold. Exciting times indeed. 1
EnglishOxide Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Owners are first class. I trust their intentions towards the club completely even if they wing it when appointing managers. 4
StriderHiryu Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Great news! This is what we want for the long term. Think the Puel appointment also starts to make more sense - a coach with a track record of playing youngsters. 2
Tommy G Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 The owners purchased Forest Hill Golf Club in botcheston a while back - I know someone on the BoD there and be told me so, I expect it will be there. Makes sense due to the size of the land
Popular Post SheppyFox Posted 1 November 2017 Popular Post Posted 1 November 2017 (edited) If this doesn’t say the owners are serious about long term ambition and investment to become a big club, I don’t know what does. Fantastic. Edited 1 November 2017 by SheppyFox 11
st albans fox Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 (edited) Two clubs that invested heavily in new training facilities - Spurs and Man City ....... st George's park is further clear evidence re the England youth teams performances that this area of investment will deliver a return (and hopefully the comms area will be close enough not to require a trip by car ) Edited 1 November 2017 by st albans fox
KFS Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Positive move. I think if we can get a respectable finish and Europe via a cup they'll be looking at stadium expansion aswell. No pressure, Claude..
justfoxes Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Great ambitious plans for the clubs owners, investing heavily in training facilities and looking to the future then as said maybe next the stadium expansion? Now does this show the negative ninnies that the owners are with us for the long term £60m for a training ground that’s gonna be some facility ?? 1
Bob Hazels shorts Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Suspect they'll hold on to Belvoir Drive for the younger academy as schooling facilities there and suits most of them to be local. Possible U23 game site Development squad that participate in first team training and first team to move. if Prime building land but the owners are into building up assets inot selling, be sad to see it go totally.

It'd be good as a lower base academy site but I suspect they'll sell it.

You need to take into account the maintenance cost which must be very costly. If it's like the Man City one it'll include accommodation.

I'd be very surprised if they kept hold of it. Don't think the u23s need to move just yet as they're getting great support over in whetstone.
Wymsey Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 (edited) In pictures, the current training ground area looks ok inside in appearing refurbished etc. However, as a growing club, a need for a bigger area for further opportunities was required inevitably. Edited 1 November 2017 by Wymeswold fox
Gerard Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 I'm really happy about this. There are two things we can do with our Champions League money. We can invest in the club's infrastructure or keep spending on transfer fees and wages. At some point we'll get relegated again so I think it's vital that we invest in the infrastructure of the club like the training ground and stadium so we have a great base in the future. If we're ever going to progress into a next level club as difficult as that would be then we need to build from the bottom up. Whatever happens in the future at least we'll have a legacy of the money we earnt in the PL. 2
dynamark Posted 1 November 2017 Posted 1 November 2017 Tommy there are three directors of FHGC/Sparsis leisure and two of them have assured me this is not happening.-but they would wouldn't they. The membership and staff have been assured there is no basis to it.There is hardly a flat piece of ground on there, couple of footpaths and bridleways running through the course.Planning very difficult and a couple of covenants in the title that wouldn't help.If it becomes official then the existing business would contract very quickly Only thing I would say is that the family would probably let go for a really strong price .Just cannot see it there are better sites around.

A problem seems to be the public footpath that runs across the course but this has not stopped provisional plans being drawn up.
