We need to talk about Wilfred Ndidi

I disagree, the tackling and intercepting part of his game all comes natural to him so he wouldn’t have to work at it at all! That’s the bit your not getting, he would of already worked endlessly on the training pitch with the technical side of everything, the manager and coaches would of flagged him up a long time ago. The problem is it’s not part of his game and he can’t physically grasp it, then you start to struggle mentally which is probably the reason as you rightly said he’s regressed!

And there are many in between. If Wilf spent all day practicing his passing technique and nothing else you'd probably see his passing skill increase but the rest of his game regress. I'm concerned as I think his passing is actually getting worse, but it is possible to fix it if he puts the hours in, providing the club make him do that training. Up to the coaches though.

He'll never be a world class passer, but he could be a lot better than he is now.

He's been disappointing this season, but he's played a ridiculous amount of football the last two or three years for someone so young

I think last season as well, in terms of his all round midfield play it was a bit of a drop from the way he started with us in 2016/17. I know that run of games from Feb through to April we were mustard and then ended the season without caring but I was very excited to see how he might develop as a sort of Yaya Toure type player. Perhaps it's unfair to have taken a sample dozen games or so where he scored 3 -4 goals and got forward and passed well and thought that was a natural part of his game but it's been fairly non-existent last season and definitely this season. His passing is getting worse but may be that's because we have the ball more now so he's making more passes. He's still the absolute quiz at winning the ball and mopping up.

His passing is getting worse rather than better which is a real concern as it's not the best part of his game anyway, it's not the sort of passing that loses us possesion either (although he does do that) but it's the the sort of clinical passing you need when building an attack, this season numerous times we've been ready to break and the pass he has played has been behind rather than in front of the player that just slows everything down.

A spell out the team might do him good, he wasn't really offering anything to cause on Saturday.

Yeah, as I've just mentioned above it's perhaps just something we're not going to get from him and why we need someone alongside him who can provide the things he's lacking. Mendy is solid and has really surprised me but he to isn't going to break the lines much, his passing tends to be done quickly and efficiently without much probing of the opposition.

Think he's top of our player completed passes stats?

That would astound me if true. He’s long overdue an absolute thunderbolt, I honestly thought he’d be a 6-10 goal a season player after what he showed us in the latter part of 16/17.

His performance has dropped cus Mendy is doing half of his job, he doesn't know what to do with the time and space he has

Not good enough on the ball to be a centre mid. Long term I think he's a centre back.

Ndidi and Maguire at centre back.

Mendy and Iborra centre mid.

Vardy and/or Maddison/Iheanacho up front.

Strong spine that most teams would love to have.

He’s made more passes than anyone else in the team currently.

Mendy is the top passing completion - 90% (out of players who’ve spent considerable time on the pitch)

Got a link for that? Would be good to take a look.

The Doctor has just posted it.

Interestingly who’s scored considers N’Didi our fourth best performing player currently

Yes and no. He's completed the most passes because he's tried the most passes, his pass success rate is distinctly average (10th of 17 outfield players to have had any game time this season): https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/14/Show/England-Leicester

I don't really get all these stats but that's really interesting - thanks for sharing

Looks like we've only got Mendy with a 90% + pass completion whereas Man City have got 10 players with a +90% pass completion.

Might explain why I keep going nuts at my stream when we give the ball away so much!

I knew his pass completion was bad but worse than Demarai Gray? Jesus.

Doesn't exactly try that many expansive ones as well.

Poor this season, needs dropping for a couple of games to shake him up and give Iborra a go.

I think he needs a rest - shame he couldn’t have a hamstring strain this week ........

Playing a blinder against the Mighty Libya.  Libya look like Cardiff.  Winning 3-0 no goals from Musa.

Stating to get a bit frustrated with him to be honest.

Wayward passing , hopeless shots and can't head the ball properly.

Along with Maguire he seems the only other outfield player that Puel considers undroppable.

Would Mendy playing further back and him being replaced by Sliva or Iborra or Barnes work better ?

Ain't going to happen though.
