But then his value massively depreciates either way because his contract is running down? Also, there would be no bidding war for a player with 12 months left on his deal. The only bidding war would be in wage offers to Mahrez once he becomes free to talk to other clubs. We'd get Jack shit.

Honestly mate, if you think we'd get north of £60m for a player with 12 months on his contract and no intention to re-sign then you're dreaming.

Completely agree, at that point we’d be in the Sanchez situation and be lucky to get anything north of £30 million

But when it really, really mattered, it was Man City 1 Leicester City 3

And Mahrez scored one of my favorite ever City goals. He's a legend. There has been the odd down but the ups are immeasurable. It's been nothing but an absolute pleasure to watch Mahrez spend 4 1/2 years in our colours and we should be thankful for that glorious year that he and vards worked miracles with the little kante defending behind. Perfection. Tbh I can't blame him wanting to play at a higher level and the money is fair enough.

Well we could of got 75 million and had to have paid his 7 million ‘ loyalty’ bonus.. maybe it’s closer to 60 and Man City are paying him a larger signing on fee to offset us not paying the bonus?

swings and roundabouts really.

You’d like to think we haven’t played hardball since January just to get Man City up to £60m.

However we do need to sell him ASAP as his time here is done and if we insist on keeping him because Man City are a few million light then we’ll only regret it next season when his contract runs down some more and he’s playing half arsed. We need to make the best out of a not ideal situation.

We're just in a weak position due to RM's machinations and unseemly haste to GTF out of here.  We have to sell, we have no choice, hence the crap fee which could only rise if another suitor were to appear.

If Mahrez is worth another £30m, surely there would a queue for him at £60m?  I wouldn't put it past the likes of Barca or Madrid to buy him just for the resale profit if that were the case.  The lack of interest means that he is not worth as much as we think.  The market has decided.

I am sure that Man City will be back in for Maguire next and I hope that we remember the way we have been stitched up here by a rich club taking advantage of our predicament and we tell them where to go.  That will be a totally different situation as Harry has 4yrs on his contract and we could charge what we like.  I can't see Harry feeling sorry for himself and kicking up a Mahrez style tantrum.

I’m a little disappointed in the fee but I have to admit I’ll be relieved when he ****s off. Can’t afford to have a bad egg on the books for another season no matter what his stats are. Good bye Riyad

I think that Man. City have deliberately held this deal back, in order to reduce his fee, knowing that we will be desperate to find a replacement. Thus the fee reduces, They have got us by the short and curlies.

Manchester City 1    Leicester City 0       :@

I think and have been saying for some time that this deal has probably been agreed from ust after the end of the season and the fee will not be known even though I am sure it is in the 60-70m mark.

What if the fee is actually huge and we have bargained with Man city to say it’s only $60m. To try and stop teams asking for crazy sums of money for their own players?

Forget the fee.

He’s wanted to leave for a hell of a long time and it’s been constantly disruptive at every transfer window and for about half a dozen games after.

We need to move on and we can’t do that properly whilst he’s still here.  Yes we could hold firm and not let him leave for less than £85m, £90m or £100m but nobody will pay it and yet again, we can’t move on as whilst he’s here, he has to play because he’s too good not too.  As for any, ‘well let him rot in the reserves’.  That just wouldn’t happen.  Mahrez wouldn’t play.  His value would depreciate and we’d get £20m if we’re lucky.  There’s no point in that.

£60m is a really good fee.  We’re not

going to sign a £60m player to replace Riyad.  In fact, I doubt we’ll spend over £30m on a single player in the foreseeable future so that fee can get us 2 or 3 really good players.

It’s a good deal all round.  We stood our ground in January and Man City didn’t bite so us getting £60m now is decent.

The talk about today’s market is largely irrelevant.  As with anything, a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

For once, we agree.

Probably better to compare him to Kante, not Drinkwater. Mahrez is miles ahead of Drinkwater in terms of quality.

With huge regret, I have to agree with this. It is vital we just move on now. Amazing to think we have made a combined £125m profit from the sales of Mahrez, Kanté and Drinkwater.

....and spunked it all away on the likes of Mendy,  Musa and Slimani!

Man City fans on Twitter laughing at us for getting Mahrez on the cheap, £60million is a big chunk (should be more) and just hope we spend it wisely....

£60 million is very cheap for a player who on his day is one of the best wingers in the world. Ever seen Naymar put 3 players on the floor by just changing direction.
