No but times 35 it nearly did.

Look at the fecking mess we are in because of ridiculous wages being paid out on shite players and to a cvnt of a manager.

And why should one of those failures be Choudhury…

Again last night he had another good game for city…

I don't mind Hamza. Championship has always been his right level. He's a limited footballer. But his stronger attributes will be useful i.e. energy, aggression & tackling. Plus perhaps he has a bit of experience to share with the youngsters

It's so weird seeing him being talked about as some sort of veteran, he's 25. lol

But you're not wrong - he's got a good amount of experience both at this level, lower down with Burton and of course in the prem under his belt now. That's sure to be of benefit for advice given to the likes of Doyle and McAteer about how to play aggressively without overdoing it.

Given most midfielders tend to peak in their late 20s / early 30s, I don't buy the claim that this is 'his level' - he still has gears to go up and performances last night show that he can potentially add some maturity to go alongside the biting tackles he always had as an asset. He's already a better passer of the ball than Wilf, so that alone will make him an attractive prospect for Enzo.

Why Enzo Maresca named Hamza Choudhury Leicester City captain for win over Norwich
With no Jamie Vardy nor Ricardo Pereira on the pitch at Carrow Road, Maresca had to hand the armband to a new

Enzo Maresca handed Hamza Choudhury the captain’s armband for the victory over Norwich as he wants his Leicester City players to take on more responsibility.

With no Jamie Vardy nor Ricardo Pereira in the City starting line-up at Carrow Road, the pair sharing the captaincy in the Championship fixtures prior to Wednesday, Choudhury stepped up. Although, at 25, he was one of the older players in a young side, there were more experienced players that Maresca could have turned to, such as Harry Winks or Jannik Vestergaard.

But Choudhury is a homegrown player and one the squad members that Maresca is teaching to be a leader, with James Justin another. So it was the academy graduate that led the team out on Wednesday evening.

“Simply because he’s one of the academy players,” Maresca said when asked about his decision to make Choudhury captain. “He was born here.

“Also in the way he works and we are trying to give some of them responsibility. Hamza is not in this moment an academy player joining the first team. Absolutely not. Now he’s in the first team and he has to show responsibility and leadership.”

Choudhury, playing in the full-back-turned-midfielder position usually occupied by Ricardo, had a solid game on Wednesday, contributing to a fine defensive effort to help earn just City’s second Championship clean sheet of the season. It was his first league start under Maresca.

“Proud to lead this incredible team to another victory!” he wrote on social media after the game. It was not the first time he has taken the armband though. He also captained City in the Carabao Cup two years ago as they drew 2-2 with Brighton before winning on penalties.

One of our best players tonight imo. Might not be the best technical player but hes superb off the ball in his workrate and tenaciousness. Very good player to have in this squad

I think it’s having Maresca as the manager. Managers like him (and Pep) want players who will work above everything else, and 100% play the system. Technical ability is also required.

In Choudry, Maresca has a local player who has the technical ability to play at the level in the position, is young enough to learn the system, and work 110% for 90+ minutes every game.

He’s the ideal player and character for the team, and it’s telling that Hamza was made captain for the last match.

Until 2027. So new 4 year deal.

A bit surprising considering I’m not sure he’ll ever be a starter for us. And would hope Braybrooke will become Winks natural successor. Useful, versatile squad member to have I guess.

4 years seems like excessive, especially since he was deemed surplus during our spell in the Prem.

Maresca must rate him if we're giving him a new deal. Either that or we think we can sell him next summer rather than lose him for free. Isn't he meant to be on big wages?

That was the idea this summer but Watford didn't rate him enough to fork out the fee.

There must something in the water in Leicestershire as reading this forum you'd be forgiven for wondering why Man City aren't looking to sign him as Rodri's back up.

by a cretin.

not saying Hamza is amazing, and I also am surprised by a 4 year deal

but I think he could still be a useful squad player if we get promoted

Thinking back a few years, hamza was the main holding midfielder for an England U21 side that included foden and madders.  Yes he let himself down with that red card v France but it shows that he must be technically able to carry the role at a high level.   Enzo must feel that he can bring him back to those levels if we’ve offered him a new deal
