Testing out the VAR

Quietly confident that Gray is about to soar this year. I think Mahrez’s presence was a bit of a millstone for him.

Let's hope so! He's always threatened to turn the corner and we all thought he had when he got MOTM in Puel's first game, but it just hasn't happened for him.

Often at big clubs, it takes the departure of one legend for another one to stake their claim. Barcelona let Ronaldinho because they believed in Messi. Manchester United gave Ronaldo the number 7 shirt (despite him wanting number 28) because they wanted him to step up and be the man. United let go of an ageing Van Nistelrooy as they had Rooney, etc.

I feel we tried that last season with Gray but it didn't quite come off. But if we don't sign a replacement for Mahrez then I imagine Puel will pull him aside and say something like "you're my main man this season. I'm not signing a replacement because I believe in you." Knowing Puel's dodgy English and Demari's brain it will probably get misinterpreted but my point is that a huge burst of confidence like that could be the thing he needs to go to the next level. One thing you have to give Puel credit for is his bloodding of youngsters - he's done it at every club he's been at and he was the one that gave Eden Hazard his break. Not all of our yongsters will come off, but between Chilwell, Gray, Nacho, Madisson and Choudhury then surely one of those will end up as key player in the team. Ndidi has proved that even at a young age it's possible. He's been our first choice midfielder since the moment he signed for us. Maguire is a little older at 25 but he's proved it too.

Yeh I've been thinking this a bit too

Just bare in mind Gray has looked very good in the previous two pre-seasons as well. The only difference is, if he starts the season poorly we've very little choice but to keep picking him which may settle him in.

Think signing Maddison will help too. They seem very good mates.

Didn't Maddison, Gray and Chilwell all play in the same England under-21 team which may help.

Maddison and Chilwell are already in a relationship together. This has upset Benalouane a lot as he still has feelings for Ben.

Excellent post.

I'm thinking that we may be done on recruitment this window, the only position I think we may need is another addition for a player in the three behind Vardy. If we have certain players who impress Puel in pre season he might go with what we have. His first team in his mind might be:

              Vardy

Gray Iheanacho Maddison

All three young talented players who are all about 21/22 and all with the potential and pedigree to excel this season. The back up them we have Albrighton, Okazaki, Diabate and possibly Kaputska. Albrighton and Okazaki are trusted workhorses who are proven and Diabate and Kaputska are talented and unproven but this could be make or break seasons for them at Leicester and if they step up to the plate there are opportunities to get plenty of game time.

Unless we're going to bring in a player who is a class above we may be better off keeping our money in our pockets and go with what we have. Of all the players we've been linked with in that three behind the striker only Maddison and Malcolm have really excited me so top quality or don't bother may be the agenda.

on paper it sounds great.. but its massive massive risk because if the 'unprovens' do not pull it off.. relegation is very possible.

Seen a few shots of gray and he seems to have bulked up considerably to what he was before!?

Definitely appeared to be in the gym most of the summer judging by his Instagram

I seem to recall a certain Mr Lineker doing the same one pre-season and look what happened then.

We've signed a number 10 just to stick him on the wing? No chance. Maddison will be our number 10 behind the striker.

Fair comment but I don't think relegation should be a concern.

Just looking at our spine we have an excellent goalkeeper in Kasper and a central defence that is one of the best in the division in Maguire and Evans. Ndidi and Silva are right up there too and Vardy is one of the best strikers in the league.

Chilwell and Pereira will be a great support to our attack and we'll attack with more number than in previous years. Maddison is as sure a thing as an unproven player gets and we know despite their critics Albrighton and Gray are PL standard.
