I admit, it’s a bit of a one off example. However I do think that sometimes people just assume cause someone is tall they will be good in the air, clearing crosses and scoring headers etc. Just doesn’t always work that way. Reading of the game is paramount as a defender IMO.

Franco Baresi, Bobby Moore, Carles Pujol...just to make it more than a one off!

He looks class from that YouTube video to be fair.

Then again....

Who actually makes these videos? The players agent?

It's odd being linked to expensive centre backs like Mina this fella and the Georgian lad.

It either means:

a) Just mindless specualation

b) Maguire is off or these players are Plan B if we get an exceptional offer

c) Three at the back

Looks like a good player, that pace is no joke. Spanish friends say he's impressed this season in La Liga.

It's nice that we are in a position that we don't need a CB, but of course it would be nice to have some more quality options. Given that we ontinue to be linked with them, I expect we will see one more join before the window shuts.

A bit of a one off example?  He’s arguably the best CB of modern time.

Bottom line is, when we concede a set piece, we’re vulnerable as we lack height. Dont overthink it.  Generally we have a pretty small, physically weak team.  If you have a choice between a 5ft 10 cb and a 6ft 5 cb, who has the better chance at winning a header from defensive position at a set piece?

Yes there are nuances to defending that account for more than just height, but when our backline consisted of Walsh, Elliott and Taggart, plus Marshall and Heskey, teams couldnt get close when attacking or defending.

A large imposing backline isnt something we’ve had for a long time.

2 and a half at the back.

1 and a quarter at the back (if Wes selects himself).

He "ISN'T going NOWHERE"....??!!

Does that mean, he IS going then?

I'm confused.

Double negatives are ok when you're having a rough day in LE5.

Simples.

Sportwitness is not the source. Why do people keep saying this? Read the article.

The 26-year-old’s form for Getafe has not gone unnoticed. France Football now reportsthat Djene is attracting interest from Sevilla and Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

Italian sources say it's between Newcastle and Sevilla, no mention of us:

https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/europa/getafe-sulla-rivelazione-djena-ci-sono-siviglia-e-newcastle-1135550

Then again, it's based on the L'Équipe article, so there could be something lost in translation.

Apparently had the most interceptions in La Liga last season and initially started out as a right-back. Tackles well, too.

Lack of height may be an issue, but you can counter that with anticipation and quick feet, plus better jumping ability.

However, I wonder what makes Dakonam (that's his first name) worth £25m or more. Apparently, first offers have entered as low as £15m (plus bonuses).
