Have to say old Jose coming out with utter shit like that is just plain laughable. It is beyond parody. He knows Man Utd have spent bucket loads and is trying to deflect from the obvious - he’s washed up and they’re going to win no trophies. Melt.

Some of the comments on this forum at times are embarrassing. Every team going to Old Trafford this season will expect a tough game and not many will come away with points regardless of whether or you believe United are any good or not. We played them off the park virtually all game, and on a different day would easily have come away with at least a point.

I've seen a couple of posts taking a pop at Puel combining yesterday's result with results at the back end of last season to suggest poor form. What a load of crap! This season starts afresh. We've played 1 game against a team that finished 2nd last season away from home in one of most notoriously difficult arena's to pick up points. Give Puel a chance. It was clear as day that we're a completely different team this season and one that isn't afraid to play football. Maybe if we lose or draw to Wolves we can reappoint Craig Shakespeare and revert back to Morgan hoofing the ball down the park in the vain hope that Vardy might eventually get on the end of an aimless ball.

As for the other's, Amartey admittedly was at fault for the penalty. Yes, it was a silly one to give away but he'll learn from that experience and it'll make him a better player.

Silva whilst looking off the pace first half seemed to grow into the game and I thought he was just starting to pull the strings in midfield before he picked up his injury.

Iheanacho seems to be coming in for some stick too. I can only assume those criticising weren't at the game, as he made countless runs off the shoulder of the last man (which you wouldn't see on TV) only for our midfield not to spot the run causing him to check back and drop deep. Give him and the midfield time to work together and understand each other's game and he'll score goals for fun.

Overall it was a very encouraging performance, and I thought our fitness levels looked much improved compared to the last couple of seasons. I'm very excited at the prospect of watching Maddison and Ricardo this season, both looked excellent yesterday. Yes, we need to find more end product and personally I'd like to see us take up a more advanced position in the final third as I thought we were a little deep at times, however play like that week in week out and we'll pick up way more points than we'll lose. As for the doom-monger's on this forum (whilst admittedly early door's) if anyone actually thinks we're strong relegation candidates based on that performance and that we'll genuinely be one of the three worst teams this season then I've either completely lost the plot or we're in for the greatest PL season of all time!

Well said. Some of the negativity towards Puel is not wholly surprising based on his personality and some of last years results and particularly performances. However, some posters on here are clearly almost willing him to fail so they can self justify their already entrenched personal beliefs.

Let's give him a chance, accept we are in transition, but still possibly have one of the best teams in the history of the club, and see where we are at Christmas - not in week 1 or 2. Let's see what the evidence tells us when we've accumulated it.

Same as last season for me, yes we looked better on the ball, however;

Still to many individual errors at the back and lack of defense shape, we play two DM and still look like conciding to the counter attack

Inability to create chance from open play until we throw in crosses at the death.

We look very short of players who can play in the 3 attacking midfield roles!

We've definitely moved up a gear from last season. It's hard to be too critical after last night all round performance.

We over played the Ball at times and some players Chilwell,Silva, Gray holding onto it just that little to long. Allowing runs to be covered or the move to break down.

Kelechi done well but having got himself in front of Bailey never should let him get to the Ball.

We still lacked strength and height at set plays but I think the new players in the squad will help in that Department.

We're still unbalanced in midfield and I don't think Silva or Iborra are the answer. Both talented but to slow for the premiership.

Still a little concerned where consistent goals are going to come from if Vardy has a baron spell. i feel we're risking to much on Kelechi and Gray and Maddison coming good this season. ( Next season I think they will be great. )

To their credit they pulled two superb saves from De Gea against a lesser keeper might have went in.

Plenty still for Puel to work on, But the signs are promising with I'm sure more to come.

We just need to keep it going.

We can talk about playing well and being proud all we like. The bottom line is that we lost against a bang average Manchester United side. It's a results business. What-ifs don't matter, only the result.

Well that's a load of bullshit.

We created a decent amount last night from open play, WTF were you watching?

I am feeling kind of positive for our  season, we played great last night not seen Leicester play this positive for a long time.

And statistically we have not won at old Trafford for yonks, Puel had lost his previous 6 matches or hadn't won against Jose I think and we kind of always lose our opening game away.

So onwards and upwards!

You don’t actually know this ...... they didn’t look anything special but perhaps we didn’t allow them to - as per all starts to seasons, we need to wait until we’ve played half a dozen games before coming to any conclusions - the games against the non top six is where I’m looking - that’s where we came unstuck last season re motivation.

There once was a time when losing at home to teams like Millwall and Rotherham were the norm. We have come a long way to now moaning about losing at Old Trafford.

I'm not sure we really learn't anything about the coming season from last night that we didn't already know.

1 We're miles off the top 6

2 We don't start games on the front foot

3 We generally move the ball too slowly

4 We have quite a decent amount of possession but don't do enough with it on the whole.

5 We seem capable of playing one decent half but not two.

6 We don't have enough goal scorers on the pitch and that has got increasingly the case with the loss of Mahrez.

7 Our midfield looks too lightweight

8 If Vardy gets injured we are going to struggle badly

The match against Wolves will tell us more. It is a game we badly need to win and anyone who thinks they will be easy is in for a nasty surprise. They are a  very decent side full of confidence and could easily beat us.

I'm still far from convinced by Puel. I don't believe he can motivate the team but the next few games will be key to his future at the club.

Some positives from last night but United were there for the taking and we didn't really do enough to win. Some of our play was decent but once we conceded the early goal I didn't really feel we were ever likely to get anything from the match as I think they would have just upped their level if required. Unfortunately we allowed united to win when they were probably playing at about 60% of their best level.

Some players did well though and some of the passing was good. Plenty of positives to work on but at this level you can't be a work in progress for very long or you will be cut off in the lower part of the league table. At least our goal difference is only -1.

Too much negativity and fearmongering after our very first league game of the new season, and that away at Manchester United...

1 Whether we're "miles off" remains to be seen - way too early to tell

2 How to judge that after one game played, I don't know

3 We don't - we've simply given up on our counter-attacking approach - so naturally, all movement tends to appear slower in comparison. Personally, I thought we looked very good in possession, especially during the first half with all those great one-touch passes

4 We've had our chances, but couldn't take them - apart from one

5 Again, we've seen one game out of 38, it's too early to tell whether last season's problems are going to be the same now

6 We don't have enough goalscorers on the pitch yet, also it'll take a bit of time for everybody to get up to gears, but I'm confident we'll see a different scoreline next week against Wolves and more goalscoring opportunities for our wingers and central midfield players, including Maddison

7 It isn't lightweight, if you're talking pure physical sense, then pretty much anybody looks "lightweight" next to Pogba and Fellaini - we have Iborra, for instance

8 No, we won't - Iheanacho is just as apt as Vardy, and roughly 10 years younger

We dominated the hosts for large parts of yesterday's match and it's a promising basis for the games to come.

Just watched football focus. Showed Pogba and Shaws goals 10 times showed vardys once and just spent the whole time wanking over shaw and pogba. Barely mentioned us other than we played well but were dodgy at the back. The bias towards united and the top teams is just disgusting. Lineker needs to have a word!

When would you say they "turned it on" today? They managed a fluke goal and a gift penalty. They never managed sustained pressure like last season, as we can now actually string together a few passes and they can't pressure us. On the other hand, we pressured the crap out of them for large portions of the game. I'll be keen to see the return match at KP.

I wont play tit for tat.....They moved the ball forward with more intent, more confidence, but

we played them well, our defensive positioning and fallback has improved tremendously on last Season...but it is only the 1st game.

And I agree in parts with what you say...each of us will take out our own tactical thoughts and

want to post 1000s of those thoughts, but we Chose the ideas what we individual percieve out of the game.

Top Teams fluke goals, because in those moments at home their players have that extra Talent of awareness.

That goal could drive Shaws career forward,Amarteys mistakes could finish his City career....

Their defence, still looked pretty good to me,and would have settled Manu-fans nerves.

We Were light up front, so other Teams could well trouble them...a mix of good and bad.

Nachos drive and  penalty not given, could be a negative Indication of any of their weakness.

I like Wes,he IMO played well( all CBs make the odd mistakes), we shouldnt hunt or go out

Witch Hunting errors, just to bring negatives on certain players.

That said,I believe its time we saw another Partner for our New legend Maguire.

We could make up a plan B/C. to Phase Wes out and slowly integrate the younger CBs,

We do need to get them in early to play themselves into the PL .incase of injuries or even Form Loss

whats your ideas on Wes's future.  .???

We had no luck with the ref, Bailey clearing fouled Nacho then about a second later tried to go for the ball and Fred went for Grays ankles twice. If both our players had rolled around the floor for 10seconds then maybe or may have swayed the ref. Fred really is a dirty player should have got a red, a Bailey should have also got one, but its Man utd at Old Trafford opening game!

We were brilliant last night. Outplayed Man Utd at Old Trafford.

Dodgy penalty decision as per settled it.

Don't lament too much, if we play like that all season, we could easily make Europe.

Disagree with this. We created a good number of chances from open playing. Especially considering we were away at Old Trafford. The Kelechi chance in the first half, the Maddison strike which De Gea saved well and the Gray chance in the second half were all good quality chances which would’ve gone in against lesser opposition.

I dont think its it’s fair to criticise the team for not carving open Man U, away every time we ventured into their half.

I thought we played really well last night! I don’t get the criticism! They should have had a player sent off and we should have had a penalty!

i can’t renember the last time we played well at old Trafford

Think your being a bit harsh,

i don’t think he could have set up much better than he did and feel the team put in an excellent performance given we was 1-0 after 2 minuets

Fair enough. But we could and should have won that game. Man Utd were very poor and we let them off the hook.

Just my opinion, but don't like Amartey at full back. Because of Puels insistence that every full back must be able to attack, we have dumped our two professional full backs, Simpson and Fuchs and IMO their replacements will be caught out of position on a regular basis as happened last night.

Played well last night, silly errors but very promising.

Not the same as last season as we were forcing the issue and passing with purpose.

Play like that against most teams in the league and we will be right up around the top 6 or 7.

That is exactly one of my major gripes with modern football. You apparently have to go full Neymar to get the decisions going your way. No wonder the game is full of divers and its a shame.

Also some of the red cards we have conceded the last few season looks like proper jokes compared to the stuff Man Utd and Spurs get away with.
