What I don't get about Vardy is that he seems to be playing in midfield half the time but never wants to touch the ball. So many times I saw him just jogging and pointing for a team mate to pass to somebody other than him.

I think he's lost the fire that made him the player he was, not a surprise given he's guaranteed £20 million over the next 4 years regardless of how he plays.

His Mrs liking tweets left right and centre about him not getting service need to get in the bin.

I can only echo what others have said re him not fitting Puels style but no pre season, missing  few games coupled with him being on crazy money till he retires along with no World Cup to play for could test any players determination and desire.

Vardy is still easily our best option and should continue to play, I'd still back him to score more often than not if we create something for him. But that's the difference now, he waits for things to happen. I've noticed it for a while and he did for England a lot where he would practically mark himself by standing close to a defender.

Vardy had a poor game but it wasn't all to do with him. We had a real strange setup in the 2nd half.  Vardy was playing on the left wing,  Maddison as a lone striker and Nacho was some where in midfield. Our organisation was all over the place.

On the one hand he had minimal pre-season, struggled with illness, nit actually played that many minutes and we're not as direct as we used to be. On the other he's been really poor for the last three of four games he's played, his goals have been a bit of weird one at Old Trafford, the third goal against one of the worst premier league teams ever and a penalty. He's missed good chances that you'd expect him to score.

It's still early days yet but it is a bit concerning.

He was poor last night but with the way Puel wants us to play (aka the wrong way) he isn’t going to have the impact he used to.

In fact Puel’s game plan seems to be to isolate him as much as possible and then even nullify the threat of a break by asking him to play deep. Maddison is being treated like the central striker based on the positioning in the second half last night.

As for not closing down, if you’ve not noticed that’s the whole team that aren’t doing it. Even Okazaki didn’t really do it when he came on. It’s not the way we play and that’s half the problem with both Vardy and the entire team.

Absolutely awful last night. Close to his worst ever game since 2014.

Can't really stay mad at him all the same. It's not excatly at Akinbiyi levels just yet. I'll let myself in for it but I'm sure he'll get it together for us this season.

Sorry but Huddersfield was both a good goal and a good assist working well with his strike partnership. Both goals we could have scored against plenty of other Prem sides.

They both played well that game tbf.

I can see the logic behind "Puel's tactics are stifling him" to a certain extent but that doesn't explain why he couldn't control or use the ball. He completed one pass all game ffs. Fingers crossed once he recovers from whatever his illness is, he'll be back firing.

Iheanacho seems to be getting pelters as usual but he was an infinitely greater threat in the first half

He's going through a bad patch at the moment. I think we might need to play another creative player with him in place of iheanacho in a 3-4-3 at least. It's normal for the most part, but yesterday he was quite poor.

He's looking more and more like an England player than a Leicester player with every game.  Completely ineffective.

Made this point in the Maddison in England squad thread. It's amazing how many players seem to lose something after playing, or playing for, England. Much as I love watching Leicester players in the England team, I always hope the good things in their game are not lost after their call ups.

Vardy looked so far off the pace last night. His energy wasn't there and I wasn't surprised to read he was ill.

The 3 in 7 lacks context though, but besides even though it was a good finish and a typical Vardy goal he's scored one 'normal' open play goal which is concern.

Missed a fair few sitters this season. Probably lacking confidence and is frustrated at it. I was just waiting for him to stick his studs in someone's back yesterday.

I know I don't disagree overall, I just thought the way you framed it as "only" being a goal against "the worst Premiership side" unnecessarily devalued it a bit.

Points instead of running, “our Jamie vardy” has had ‘Jamie vardy ‘coached out of him .

no tackles, no running channels , no nasty bastard equals no Jamie vardy !!

He has played that way for about two years now under different managers. The last three managers have all told him to stop the cutting down on defenders and concentrate on the attacking.

Since the start of this season, Puel’s changing shape three times to stop him being isolated.

Vardy appears to have struggled with all of the changes at the club over the last 24 months as much as anyone.

he's certainly not 'lost it' imo, but does appear to be going through a bit of a patch of low confidence.

We saw glimpses of play in the first half last night that should suit Vardy - the quick counter happened a couple of times and on another day he may have scored.

BUT I do think he really, really needs to step it up to 6th gear and show some of the younger inexperienced players in the squad how to dig in deep and make things happen when it isn't going our way.

the system might be different for him but **** me, chase those balls like you used to - those tenacious runs and tackles got the crowd out of their seats and the team fired-up.

we need those special moments to increase confidence in a young, sometimes naive and conservative team.

I was thinking last night - I wonder if when Vardy announced his England retirement he knew there was something wrong with his fitness?

Might explain the form dip this season.

His tactics last night were to stop Arsenal Cbs dribbling the ball out

He was standing off them, then closing them down as soon as they stepped out their 1/3rd, he was directing others, pointing out their runners

He did spin off their last man once or twice, he actually made runs behind Bellerin loads, but after the first 20mins the team was too busy passing sideways to notice

I think we definitely need to be dipping into the transfer window in January or at the very latest the summer to look for a replacement over the next season or two. I think he will do fine this season but he just isn't going to keep up what he's done for the last few years in terms of style of play. He just can't.
