I think Pearson let him down actually. Remember us playing away at Arsenal and Pearson hung him out to dry playing him up top on his own. Lost his confidence after that.

That was pretty much his best game for us if I remember rightly.

Maybe we should have sent him on season long loans instead, and then bring him back. but no one could foresee how well he is doing now. he wasn't given a decent chance here but he didn't exactly fit in here either!.

Funny that this thread didn't pop up when he went 22/23 games without a goal last season. Currently joint 17th top scorer in the Bundesliga this season and got the same as or less than these leading lights last season... Nils Petersen, Marth Uth, Niclas Fullkrug, Kevin Volland, Timo Werner, Michael Gregoritsch, who I doubt most of those bumming him have even heard of.

He's alright, no more, no less... we won the title without him, so who the hell cares. Do we really need a thread every time he actually does something.

Scored as well if I remember correctly.

lol Mr know it all at it again.

Volland and Werner are both quite well known and both decent players. Particularly Werner who has a good scoring record and has the potential to be a top class player for both club and country IMO.

He had a really good game that day. We absouletly battered Arsenal in the second half and were unlucky not to get a point. He scored a good goal that game as well.

Definitely one that got away. Quite simply the move was too soon for him as he was 21 when he came over and there was pressure on him to score immediately. Then in the title winning year Vardy / Shinji / Leo all took their chances and well... we won the bloody league!

The mistake was to sell him (should have loaned him instead) but back then our style was not suited to him. The irony is that right now our style would be ideal for him and he’d walk into the team.

Moral of the story is that young players need time. We’ve got tons of young players now and not all will make it but don’t write them off after a few games!

I don't think it would have been fair or acceptable for us to hold onto him if we didn't have a concrete plan for him. If we had have done, I think his career would have stagnated he wouldn't be the player he is now.

I'm happy for him, though. He seemed like a good guy.

Yes I think you are right.

But it's a bit painful to see him doing so well... he even played in the World Cup final not so long ago! To me he always looked like he had the quality but had no confidence and hadn't adjusted to the pace of the Premier League. Given we sold him and then brought in Slimani and Musa... it was a pretty bad error of judement on our behalf :(.

Errrr yes I'm well aware of who they are, the point is he's just one of a number of players who knock in the sort of numbers he is over there. The numbers aren't anything particularly special, yet you'd think he was a second coming of Christ the way he's constantly brought up.  He's alright, he'd have done alright, he'd probably be a better fit than Vardy currently as has been said. But FFS, it's not like he's Harry Kane or something and he slipped through the net.

Who decided to sell him the muppets who come on foxestalk and judge him on a couple of games

That assertion is factually incorrect.

Enjoyed his lung busting run away at Anfield when Benteke missed the sitter. Can't fault his effort. Wrong player at the wrong time unfortunately.
