davieG Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 WARNING - Clickbait but only if you click the link. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/750999/Man-Utd-transfer-news-Mauricio-Pochettino-Ed-Woodward-James-Maddison-Leicester Man Utd transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino tells Ed Woodward the £70m signing he wants MANCHESTER UNITED chief Ed Woodward has reportedly been in transfer talks with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino. By Dan Gibbs / Published 3rd January 2019 Manchester United currently have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge until the end of the season but Pochettino remains the Red Devils’ preferred choice to succeed the Norwegian. Prising Pochettino away from Old Trafford will not be easy though with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reluctant to let him leave to their Premier league rivals. However, reports from Caught Offside claim Pochettino has been in talks with United’s executive vice-chairman Woodward over summer signings already. And the one player Pochettino wants to take with him to Old Trafford, should he leave, is Leicester’s James Maddison. The talented midfielder has made a name for himself during his first season in the Premier League having signed from Norwich last summer. Maddison’s attacking threat and creativity going forward has seen him bag five goals and three assists to his name this term. But Leicester are unlikely to entertain the idea of letting Maddison depart after just one year with the club. Caught Offside claim the 22-year-old is valued at around £70m and United will need to meet that fee before the Foxes even consider doing business. They say United have even opened talks with Leicester in a bid to meet Pochettino’s request in the hope that will boost their chances of bringing the Argentine to Old Trafford. Pochettino reportedly believes United need a player of Christian Eriksen’s calibre to play a similar role and Maddison is the perfect fit. The 46-year-old knows Eriksen would be an unrealistic target to take with him and hopes Maddison is a more obtainable option. Spurs even came close to signing Maddison in 2015 when the England international was impressing at Coventry. Having joined Norwich for £2.3m in January 2016 and then Leicester for £22m in the summer, his career has gone from strength to strength. His impressive displays for the Foxes saw him earn his first call up to Gareth Southgate’s side in October.
reynard Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 Here we go. Better get used to a whole month of this surrounding each of our English stars. Not sure the Daily Star has ever been considered reliable mind you.
Beechey Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I just read that 10 minutes ago. Gave me a good laugh.
StanSP Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 how can a manager who's not even been through any kind of contractual negotiations, to the best of our knowledge, with a club he's only rumoured to be linked with, demand a signing be made !? Ridiculous rumour.
Poznan34 Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 take the money, stick harvey barnes at #10, easy
Footballwipe Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 The editor's feeling cheeky, asking his journalist to simultaneously piss off both Spurs and Leicester fans at the same time. One fanbase is no longer enough!

Mike Oxlong Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 On a positive note that will free up some money to buy ourselves a Musa, a Slimani and a Silva

Brooksy Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 Imagine if we get £150m for Maddison and Maguire.

Countryfox Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I too have heard this rumour ... apparently they also want Maguire and Chilwell for an additional £180m and reportedly pre contracts have already been drawn up and the lads have been for a fitting on their new red devil shirts. If they are not allowed to go further reports suggest that they will sit on their suitcases at East Midlands airport until their demands are met. A reporter for the Manchester Evening News managed to get a long range pic of Maguire heading off for pre contract talks ... so as to avoid being spotted he travelled by Unicorn up the Grand Union canal ... Personally ... I take all this with a pinch of salt ...

leicesterlad1989 Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 Right, so to clarify, the current Spurs manager when moves to Manchester United, wants to take a Leicester player? I mean as rumours go it's extremely farfetched. Surely he would want to take some of the young English talent he's already worked with at Spurs? It appears anyone can get a job in journalism these days and a story/source can be any old crap.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 How can you take with you something that isn't yours? Doesn't even make grammatical sense, much less any other kind.
fox_favourite Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 I'm waiting for the punchline in the article...that is bonkers in many ways
vanity Posted 3 January 2019 Posted 3 January 2019 Give us 250 mill for Chilwell, Maddison, and Maguire and we'll call it a deal. Can't help but note this is a huge part of Puel's value, he will train up young players and showcase them in matches to add to their value. He took Maguire and helped make him into a star. Chilwell has always been a talent but had been unable to transition to being a consistent defender, and he has enjoyed by far his best development under Puel and just came out with an interview defending him. Maddison has transitioned well, though he is definitely overrated to some extent at this point, you can see the talent there, and I expect he will make a Chilwell-type leap next season if Puel is here. Hamza just burst on the scene out of nowhere and is killing it as well. Barnes worked with him for the 2nd half of the season and has become a huge star in the Championship. Even Ndidi is looking much more confident on the ball and making some quality passes. I think people are quick to discount Claude's impact on young players, imagining that we simply signed talented players, but come off it, we have never had the sheer volume of young talents ripening before our very eyes. Puel is a witch when it comes to improving young players, his hit % is astonishing. I cannot wait to see what we wind up getting from Barnes, Soy, and Benko. Seriously, we can start a thriving fuching retail business with him in charge. We need to start investing in young starlets and getting Puel working with them, he is doing a terrific job developing young talent.
