That Vardy dive

Recommended Posts

No question it was a dive, but why is this getting quite a bit of attention whereas Valery who also tried to con the ref does not?

Assume it’s because it’s Vardy and “that is what he does”. Saw MOTD mentioned it and gave him a roasting, but no mention of Valery’ dive.

Or is someone being a bit over sensitive...

I didn't see it tbf, if its a dive it's a dive, fair play.

But the Valery one was absolutely appalling so if he's not questioning that either he's a hypocrite.

But then he's an ex Spurs Forest fan who's always got a moan about Leicester in him so what do you expect?

Guy's an idiot and one of the thickest pundits out there.

Yeah Jenas tore into him, thought it was harsh.

Don't think it was a penalty but no worse than Salah's vs Arsenal. Vestergaard definitely has his arm on him.

Didn't watch MOTD (never do if we lose) so I can't comment on what the pundits said but if you look at Vardy's reaction after the 'dive' he clearly say's something to the two centre halves. It's almost like he's apologising. That was what I noticed live at the game anyway. Doesn't excuse it.

As an aside, did anyone see Maddison dive, clutching his face in stoppage time yesterday. Absolutely pathetic.

What happened to taking retrospective action? Vardy's and Valery's were both so, so blatant but since they made an example out of Niasse I can't remember anyone being punished for it. I can understand to an extent referees and assistants being hesitant to give them because it's a big call, but there's no excuse for not punishing players retrospectively.

Spot on, after watching the highlights it was a blatant dive from Vardy not even one of those dives you can get away with either as blatant as they will come.

Valery warranted 5 yellows in his 40 minutes or so. There was a bad challenge on Chilwell early on, the dive, the second foul on Chilwell, the handbags and then the foul for the second booking. At least the to**er is stuck with a girls name all his life.

Every Club in the Premiership has at least one player who dives, some Clubs more than one. They'll all cheating, it's the same with not taking free-kicks from the correct place, placing to ball well outside the 'd' at corners and taking throw-ins 3/5 yards or more up the pitch from where the ball went out. I don't condone any of it and perhaps a few more yellow cards for these instances might pull a few of these miscreants up.

Vardy do has a dive in him and really has made an art out of the trailing leg hitting the defender. But why he is singled out by a former Spurs player, who has Alli and Son diving all the time, is really weird. Especially as a Southampton player did an even worse attempt at diving in the very same game.

When I saw the Vardy situation on a stream, I actually just thought he fell over his own feet, as he was laughing afterwards and shaking his head. But I am a biased tool.

They can only punish retrospectively if the ref gives the foul and it was a dive, if the ref does nothing then the FA can’t go back to it. I think this is why we’re seeing more and more blatant dives not punished by the refs, if they book someone and get it wrong it could come back to bite them so they do nothing.

Vardy is singled out because, shock, he has done it before and has previously been sent off for his troubles. Unless there is absolute concrete evidence of contact occurring, you'll do well to see any referee award Vardy/LCFC a penalty.

I hate bashing our players but his dive yesterday was a disgrace. Literally kicked his own foot and flailed over, looked so convincing from a distance. But at risk of retrospective action, whether the dive led to a penalty/free kick or not, it should stamped out the game and if Vardy has to pick up another dozen yellow cards to get the message, then so be it. Maddison had best be careful as well, it's a bad road to go down. :frantics:

I do hope they get on top of the diving as it does ruin the modern game. In any other sport when you cheat you get punished severely, yet these players are getting away with it every week. It’s embarrassing at times! Shinji is the worst player for me.

Vardy didn't appeal for it so I don't see an issue, also dint watch MotD or read any newspapers so I don't know or care what Jenas has said "really". It's up to the Ref to decide if it's a foul, a dive or whatever - he went with whatever and left it. It happens in every game, every team has a specialist diver and we have at least two in Vardy & now Maddison, Everton have Richarlison, Tottenham have Dele Alli & Son, Liverpool have Salah, Palace have Zaha who's now turned questioning it into an awkward art form; even France had a specialist diving centreback during the World Cup in Samuel Umtiti - diving is a part of the sport, they must spend a considerable amount of time training on it throughout their careers.

Yep blatant dive, but He also got straight up again without appealing for a pen , not rolling around or bitching about it .

It's a dive. It's a booking. Deserves all the stick he gets.

Why would you dive instead of going for goal. Shameful.

Shinji doesn't dive.

Okazaki just genuinely falls over. All the time.

Yeah, no idea why but he loses his footing or balance so much.

For me, a dive is going over under minimal or no contact and animatedly appealing for a decision.

Blatant dive.

Think the reasons why Vardy was singled out was because he has had history and two he is a high profile player, unlike Valery.

Salah got loads of shit on social media.
