We may finally be seeing the end of Wes‘s time as an automatic pick, regardless of his or others performances. Sometimes Puel makes it difficult for me to keep backing him and for me now, this really is a red line.
Deeg67 Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 Personally I would play the same lineup as Liverpool with Choudhury for Mendy as the only change. Keep Tielmans and Barnes in reserve for the second half if needed. Man U are keeping the ball much more now for obvious reasons, and I'd actually be content to let them have the bulk of the possession and hit them on the counter as we did with Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea. Eventually we may be a side who can take the game to a club like this, with Tielmans (or a like player) in the middle of the pitch. I don't think we're there yet. And yes, Evans again, please. The entire back four was huge at Anfield but Evans is without a doubt our best pure defender.
Wrighty22 Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 Puel will throw a curve ball, drop Evans and start Simpson

Farrington fox Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 No, I agree. It would be a bloody travesty if Wes gets to start. The biggest conundrum is midfield, personally I don’t think Tielemans will start.
Blue-fox Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 I think it will be the same side as Liverpool.

reynard Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 Man Utd are playing a lot on the quick counter attack. They will hope to draw our fullbacks forwards and then exploit the gaps behind them with the pace of Rashford and Martial. In Pogba they have a physical prescence in the middle of the pitch. We need to win the midfield battle or we are likely to lose.

Beechey Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 Depending on whether Tielemans is ready, either him or Mendy in there for me. I'd have Ndidi planted firmly on Pogba.
The Doctor Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 I'd go for Schmeichel Ricardo Evans Maguire Chilwell Choudhury Ndidi Tielemans/Mendy Maddison Gray Vardy Maddison and Gray free to roam around Vardy. Ndidi to sit on Pogba, Choudhury to just hunt around like he does. Tielemans starts if he's ready, but with really only a days training I'd expect him on the bench to come on for the last 20/30 minutes

I’d probably go same sides as Liverpool, save for perhaps Choudhury in for Mendy. Think Hamza is making a strong case and his tackling could be useful
Ian Nacho Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 Hopefully we don't see Tielemans, as if we do it's because we're losing.
Toddybad Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 No way can we start with tielemans when he only turned up two days ago.
foxfanazer Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 They seem quite respectful of us on redcafe. Many predicting a draw

Blue Ed Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 I think Puel likes Maddison wide and not as the link man. Personally I don't know why when he seems to me to play his best as a CAM, possibly he wants a box 2 box midfielder to link the play rather than a creative one and for that reason I'm going to call that Tielemans goes straight in as a CAM with Maddison making way from the Liverpool line up to play Albrighton in order to counter Rashford and their wing play and to play gray to use his pace on the counter. I've think it'll be a defensive 4411 or 4231. I've gone for Mendy and Ndidi I still think our two defensive midfielders need to distribute the ball quicker and more accurately in order to stop putting pressure on ourselves so readily and for as great as Choudrey did against Liverpool he misplaced passes to easily. Schmeichel Ricardo Evans Maguire Chilwell Albrighton Ndidi Mendy Gray Tielemans Vardy

Same eleven Yes but this is Claude Puel we're talking about, he thinks tinkering is an art form! Having said that, I suspect that he might stick with the same side for this one because he knows now that he's on thin ice with a lot of the fans. I strongly suspect he wants us to have essentially two formations: an away/big side formation which is quite defensive, and then a slightly more attacking home formation for when we play the dross. I think the trend says we're going that way - but even then, you can never put it past him to get confused (e.g. Southampton at home).

Nice setup. Ndidi is better off sitting deeper than Tielemans/Hamza. I mean, as much as I love Wilf, he can be lazy when tracking back. On the bright side, he played a similar role against Atletico and effectively pocketed Griezmann.
dynamark Posted 2 February 2019 Posted 2 February 2019 For me Wilf on and I mean right on Pogba is the way to do this just stop him playing wind him up big time and Wilf is big enough to do that job. Then we can have a go and get ourselves some ground and chances.Slight concern is Vardy really 100% fit
